The Apartment People:
Sylvia - Quick-witted, divorced, chain-smoking aunt you always wanted but might not have ever had.

Pamela - Sylvia's BFF, currently taking cooking lessons from Sylvia's ex-husband, Rod

Craig - Sylvia's Nephew, A bit of a goof and a geek

Danielle - Moved in post-college with Mary-Tyler-Moore spunk, and later rocks an adorable/library-haunting look

Phil - Immature, sleazy goofball. (See "Woot Prep College Girls") Danielle's on/off ex. [This week, they are - ON]

Brant - Lesley's long-suffering boyfriend, very go-with-the-flow attitude that helps maintain his relationship with his "other half"

Brant's Puppy - Could be named Raoul. Often referred to as "Nameless Puppy"

Lesley - See Ruttles & Co people. Long-term girlfriend of Brant.

Mike - Was watching Sylvia, we don't know why. But it's not good news.

Raoul - GBFF for Leslie, who [spoiler] thinks he is a robot [/spoiler]

Peripheral Apartment People
i.e. While not in the apartments, these people are linked indirectly to the main Apartment People.


Rod - Sylvia's ex. A hinted "I'm not sure how I feel about you" relationship with Pamela.

Millicent - Sylvia's twin sister. Both seem to have a hint of the awesome.

Hinkle and Miller - Beat cop and Homocide detective. The buddy cops. Were watching the apartment. (I hope they show up again eventually.)

Chief Encharge - Hinkle and Miller's boss.

Ernie - The door to-door vaccuum salesman, who takes advantage of the golden grail in Nestoras' apartment complex. Everyone buys from him, and they don't even know why!

Marjorie - Ernie's wife.

Brandi - Ernie's gold-digging sugar doll.

Ruttles & Co People:

Lesley - Potentially OCD, vaguely unhinged, and married to Brant. There is an entire file devoted to Lesley in the back offices of Ruttles & Co.

Maurice - Manager of Ruttles & Co, expects to retire on "The Leslie File" which is probably a "This American Life" episode just waiting to happen.

James "Jimmy" Greenwood - Top mattress seller at Ruttles, kind of mild personality (great for customer service) and has figured out how to get Lesley in and out of the store without causing a meltdown, apparently.

Lisa - Danielle's friend, but not living in the apartment. Hired on at Ruttles, and drop-dead gorgeous, according to all accounts. Also has an acting job doing webisodes to sell furniture. (Hrm...)

Woot Prep College Girls

Honor - Friends with Charity, Purity, and Hope from HS.

Honor's roommate - Pals around with Phil. A lot. Thinks he's hilarious. It's not serious. Often very confused by the innocence of Honor.

Chastity - Not great swaths of development on Chastity, has some soul-searching to do. (She'd probably make a great vet story arc for Pets.Woot)

Purity - A go-getter, probably valedictorian, goodie-two-shoes TO THE MAXX. :D (Hates Honor's Roommate)

(Hope - wait, is Hope not in the dorms? OH, GOD, THERE'S NO HOPE, IS THERE?!)

Ophelia & Juliet - Roomies, probably drama/english majors from their speech patterns. (Total immersion acting FTW!)

Scarlett - A little rowdy. Not much info.

Who writes these things, anyway?
It's a rotating batch of writers who provide content for the blogs and the write-ups across woot, so various ones end up here.The roster as of Autumn 2012 is here. One of them wrote whichever post you're thinking about. Probably.

(Spoiler: Most of the later Home.Woot passages were written by Scott Lydon and Amy Nance. And they rock.)

Not a problem! I'm glad I decided to get caught up, it reminds me a little of another serial series I used to read online. But, strangely, with better characters. And the characters are clothed WAY more often than the one I was reading.

I'll just have to keep up to date on it so I can post relevant (interesting) trackbacks.

Isn't there a family serial story on kids.woot, too?

Okay, I think I've got it figured out.

Mike is watching Sylvia, who slipped out.

Sylvia is NOT being watched by the buddy cops. The buddy cops are watching everyone BUT Mike, but they SHOULD be watching Mike, because he's probably their directive.

Raul is not being watched by the cops, and is also likely not a cyborg. He may have slept with Lesley. (The story blips haven't told us whether it's happened or not.)

Lesley is psycho, and married to Brant, who has a puppy. Brant sure does like Lesley, but she sure is too crazy to have a baby with, whether she's ready or not.

Phil is in like-like with Danielle, and isn't catching the negative signals. Oh, and he's all about college girls.

Danielle is in like with Craig. She also recently declared that the last time with Phil was "the last time". He hasn't improved his chances.

Craig... is a mess. He's crushing on Danielle IRL, his aunt's gone missing, his mom probably knows where his aunt went.

The vacuum salesman is a figment of EVERYBODY'S IMAGINATION. J/K, he's there to sell vacuums for home.woot, and it's hilarious.

We KNOW the Pam has been hanging with Sylvia's Ex-husband, who's moving out of his current home 'cause it's too big. (And, hey, with Sylvia's apartment open maybe he'll be moving in?)

Ruttles&&Co don't seem to be in the main plot lines at the minute, but they're still torturing/being tortured by Lesley.

We've seen a little from the coeds, but I could do with a little more from the Frilly Foursome. Srsly. Like... Maybe put Craig in a writing class or something to improve his Sci-Fi. "AND SUDDENLY, THEY WERE ALL VAMPIRES!" (I LOVE IT! And yet...)

Things of note:

Danielle did the "WE~ ARE NEVER, NEVER EVER... GETTING BACK TOGETHER" montage. But the most recent post shows her with Phil after texting "somebody" to hang out. (GRAWHR - so that means she chose crazy won't-settle-down arse instead of Sweet "buys too much to say ILU" Craig)

Stan died, so Ernie probably has his apartment complex back.

Hinkle/Miller are all about social media (Hey, can you guys start a fanpage for those two? I'd find it hilarious to see the main writers for Hinkle/Miller in trench coats for a profile pic.)

Rod moved, Sylvia and Pamela are going to be OK, and the ACTUAL ghost SURE AS HECK better have followed Rod. Because the flickering light without the plug is just TOO GOOD to leave a dangling plot line.

Hope (from the first four-way pillow post) is a typo for Honor. I guess. ;D

Craig feels a little stalkery in his post-breakup sadness.
(Pure Speculation - Either Sylvia's a blonde now, or Craig's dating Ernie's dollface. Or something. SRSLY. WHO ELSE CALLS HIM CRAIGY-BEAR?! Answer: Not even his Mom.)

I must admit that I love reading the write ups, sadly I am late to the party and don't know how far back they go and what I have missed. (Any way of getting a chronological list?)

I think the first story that I really noticed was Leslie and Brant's one year anniversary.

Eptadros, this forum string is probably the closest you're going to get to a chronological list, and although it might be more like a "Best Of!" it seems to hit most of the plot points. When I update, I usually go through and update chronologically. XD

Ernie hasn't shown up after returning to Marjorie. His sideplot may be tied shut for a little bit. At least until there are new apartment-dwellers to showcase, anyway.


It sounds like they're tying up some plot lines to open new ones:

Posts about Jimmy and Craig hanging out aren't quite as lovey-dovey as Craig and Danielle.

Jimmy is apparently a bit jealous of Lisa because she a hottie who's as clever about customer service as he is. Craig is obviously miffed that Danielle is through with him (momentarily or otherwise). Still no official evidence that Craig was seeing other girls - again, feel FREE to clue me in.

Danielle looks to be with Phil for quite some time. Christmas was CLEARLY the honeymoon period.

No ghost for Rod. (BOO!!!!) Also, Rod seems to be back to hanging out with Sylvia in the wake of Pamela being crazy.

Brad may have finally figured out all of Lesley's anniversaries. (And BABY'S ON THE WAY!!!)

We have NO clue yet who the new owner of the building is.

Chastity is dropping out and has a punk boyfriend. Literally. I was kind of hoping for her to be a pets.woot character - well, you can always go BACK to college!

Purity may-or-may-not be setting herself up for failure for the first time in her entire life.

Things that haven't changed:
~ Bored Hinkle and Miller are bored.

~ Raoul is still hilariously harlequin-cover manifique.

~ Honor is "staying the course" with her studies (as opposed to her comrades)

~ and WHERE is Honor's roommate? (I'm just worried for Danielle. If she's still texting Phil... bad things, my friends. Bad things.)

AGREED! And thanks for joining in! The writers NEVER get enough praise in the comment threads, so I know they really love when people say they love their stuff. :D

That being said, I'm totally sad that Hinkle & Miller never got their proper story, although the schaudenfreude of being kicked out is a good backstory to "down on their luck" noir...

The truth is, as much as we love what we're doing, we're at a point when we simply can't keep working on this project at the level it requires. Nobody's told us to stop, but Amy and I ultimately had to either divide ourselves into two extra people or scale things back a bit.

I didn't know whether or not you had extra pressure from the sort of storytelling that I could feel in the daily vignettes - but you both (and everyone else who might have worked on it) had both effort and talent in each linked post, as well as each post that wasn't linked. I actually boosted the signal once or twice on G+, because they weren't just copy. I mean, they WERE, but you know what I mean...

The WORST part of this, to me, is thinking I'm letting you down. Every writer dreams of having a fan do to their work what you did to ours, and we're honored we did something that resonated with you.

So, because of the love you showed us, I'll tell you a secret: there's a real chance you'll see our characters show up from time to time anyway. It won't be EVERY day, but it will be some days, and you're always welcome to stop by this thread and update so everyone else knows what's happening.

I'll try to catch-and-link. Of course I'll be watching to see what happens, even if I end up defaulting to lurkmode again. (Believe it or not, that really IS my default mode, which is the case with a LOT of communities I take part in.)

I hope you keep reading our daily writeups as we explore new directions, and I very much hope you keep giving me feedback on what you like and don't like. At the end of the day, everyone who bothers to read our words really do matter to us, and we want to make you as happy as we can.

Wow. I never expected anything from y'all. I'm a devoted lurker for the most part, but when characters started ending storylines I knew I had to say something about appreciating y'all.

Wow, you two do some amazing work. I would have sworn there was a small army of writers, especially between the two sites. I've been enjoying these stories for a few months now, and they really do get me coming back to the site daily to see what happens next to these characters I've really started to care about (and maybe buying a couple more things than I would have otherwise...) It's actually a bit of an inspiration to see creative writing has more uses these days past just writing books.

Also thanks so much for all the recaps, Mouseka! Really helped when I first discovered the stories to go back and find out how everything started.
