Winter’s here, it’s cold and blustery outside, and you know what that means: time to get our soup on. Which means, of course, I’ll be sharing my secret special three lentil soup again with everyone! I’ll tell you, between you and me, the secret is in the storage.

You see, one fall day in 1999 I made the perfect batch. Spices, texture, flavor, everything came together in one fantastic explosion of lentil goodness! Luckily, I had the foresight to grossly miscalculate my required ingredients and thus, I had 32 gallons of lentil soup. Ever since then I’ve had it frozen and ready for every winter when I ladle some out.

Oh, spare me your judgments on “safety” and “foodborne illness” and “human decency.” No one’s been the wiser! And do you know how long it takes to make a proper pot of soup? I’ve spared myself TENS of hours of simmering over these years!

Does it keep food fresh in the fridge or freezer? Of course it does! Does it keep food fresh for over 13 years? Well, it’s not a miracle worker. But that’s the beauty of lentil soup! Everyone expects a little gastrointestinal distress regardless of the quality!
