There are a few special features to note about the forged pan. Before using it for the first time, you should rinse it thoroughly, as a film of grease is applied to protect it. Then you season the pan. To do this you fill some oil (e.g. linseed oil) in your pan and place it on your stove or grill and heat it until the oil has completely evaporated. Alternatively, coat the wrought-iron pan all over with oil and place it in the oven. The result of seasoning: The iron pan is given a patina (natural coating) that has non-stick properties. With each use, the patina will improve and you will need less and less oil to fry. To keep the patina intact, you should only clean the iron pan with warm water and a soft sponge. Please note: It is normal and desirable for the pan to discolor (patina). The original appearance cannot be restored once the pan has been heated this way.

- BEFORE FIRST USE: To create the patina, you first need to bake your ZWILLING iron pan. To do this, heat the pan on the cooker or or in the oven at 250° with a little oil until all the oil has evaporated. For a more even, solid patina, this process can be repeated 3-4 times.
