My dream grinder.
By Twisted~Fishy on Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2010
I bought this grinder for my father in November, 2007. He's been using it ever since without the slightest problem. I get to use it when I go to visit my folks. I have a DeLonghi at home, but I like the Krups MUCH better. The main thing I love about it, compared to my DeLonghi, is that it really grinds exactly the amount of coffee needed for the number of cups you set it to. My father just keeps a random amount of beans in the top hopper, and hits the power button every morning to grind the right amount for a 10-cup pot. The top hopper also holds a lot of whole beans, and doesn't need to be refilled more than every week or two. It also has a very consistent grind, without lots of dust or too-large bits. I also love the fact that the hopper for the ground coffee fits inside the machine, instead of sticking out in front. This makes the machine take up about half as much space as mine. It's also very easy to take it out and put it back, unlike the DeLonghi, which takes some finesse. The plastic hopper for the ground coffee does, of course, have some static cling. However, the Krups never gets as messy as the DeLonghi, and the lid doesn't collect as much buildup. With the DeLonghi, I have to go through a whole process of banging the lid & sides with a spoon before I can open it without getting grounds everywhere. The Krups sometimes takes just a couple of taps. The Krups machine doesn't seem to clog up as much, or require as much dis-assembly and cleaning as the DeLonghi. Basically, this is my dream grinder, unless I win the Lotto. I've been watching the price for a very long time, waiting for it to come down low enough for me to justify buying one for myself. I might finally have an excuse, though. A friend of mine needs a burr grinder, and I could give him my old DeLonghi. LOL!

they don't last long
By RC Schmolka on Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2013
Purchased my first one at Costco a year ago. At first, I loved it so much that I went out and purchased another one, knowing that they don't last forever (Costo quit carrying them). Well ... First one quit working after a year (not acceptable). I took the 2nd. one out of the box, and it worked properly for 2 weeks. Like the other one, the light came on, but didn't start grinding. It's not the motor, it's in the circuitry. Guess I will have to ad the brand KRUPS, to my ever growing "do not purchase this brand" list, along with Cuisinart, and as always, Black and Decker. When will we ever start making quality products in this country again? All China produces is crap. An addition (9/10/2013)to this review after having the second grinder for 10 months now (the one that did not work after 2 weeks). I believe I have figured out why so many reviewers have had problems with the grinder not working. If you get just a speck of stuff (piece of coffee bean, etc.) down in the rim slot at the top where the clear cover goes on, the light will come on, but not the grinder. Upon close inspection, I discovered a very small push pin down inside this slot. If something prevents you from bottoming out the top cover to push the pin down, it won't grind (but lights up). There are two additional pins where the grounds bin seats inside the unit. IT TAKES ALL 3 OF THESE PINS PUSHED IN BEFORE THE GRINDER WILL WORK. After I removed a minute piece of coffee bean from the bottom of the top seat, all has been working well for 10 months now. I guess these pins are for safety, but they do not warn you that any blockage of any one of them will stop the grinding process. Do not have the jamming problems many reviewers mentioned for the sole fact that I use the same brand of beans all the time. Oily beans WILL cause it to jam, unless you keep tapping the sides to get the beans to drop. The grind selector is a joke. You might as well set it for course grind, because no matter where you set the dial, the beans grind the same. It does seem to be accurate when you set it for the number of cups you intend to make. Same volume of ground beans every time. Now if it will just last a few more years. If not, I'm going to purchase a good ol fashion hand grinder
