Best dog frisbee
By Charles S. Tricou on Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2015
In the last ~12-18 months, the manufacturer moved the location of where the silicone tube comes together relatives to the sewn fabric joins in the rim, thereby eliminating the early failure mode. At least in the smaller version. With that change, this frisbee now remains usable and fun right up until the fabric is almost completely destroyed. My last one provided many m and months of aerial canine fun. I've changed my rating from 3 to 5 stars. If you purchase the larger diameter and the silicone tubing is within ~1" of the seam in the rim - you can feel it with your fingers - you might consider returning it unused with an explanation as to why you returned it. I'm leaving the original review below for context. My dog is a Shepherd. ~15 months old as I write this, though he's a little on the small side at ~80 lbs. He loves to play with this toy (as do I ;). He's rough on it, but then I suppose most dogs would be since it probably activates that chase / hunting instinct. After catching it my dog will chomp all around the edges of it, (the silicone tube forming the rim almost invites this behavior), shakes it vigorously (!) side to side, and uses it to rip up grass by setting it down, biting the middle of it and ripping out the grass that he traps between his teeth on the far side of the disc. He'll do this for a minute or so until he's ready for me to throw it, at which point he'll drop it on the ground and step back. My dog has access to this toy *only* at the dog park when we are playing catch. There have been no tug-of-wars with the two larger discs, nor any other abuse other than that described. Durability of this toy (or the lack thereof) is an issue. Based on my experience with the smaller version (purchased at a local pet store) I purchased two of the larger discs and one of the smaller discs from Amazon. The first 12" disc I brought to the dog park failed in a single session (10-15 throws / savagings). The second one failed this morning after the third session (50-60 throws). Booda (the manufacturer) secures the ends of the silicone tube by inserting them into a slightly larger, more flexible silicone tube (see photo, top right). They position this splice / juncture at one of the seams in the cloth sleeve that encases the tube. Collectively these form the rim of the disc. Failure occurs because the ends of the tube slip out from the weak point in cloth sleeve. Of the two large-sized discs I've used, the failure mode has been both rapid and identical (see photo). It's a shame, because this is really a good toy. In comparison, the smaller sized disc has lasted 4+ weeks (10-12 sessions a week and ~ 20-25 tosses per week). It doesn't fly quite as well as the larger size (less stable) and requires a slight breeze to throw into so the disc will hang up a little and give the dog a chance to get to / under it. Until the silicone tube pops out, these can take a *lot* of abuse and still be functional. Once the silicone tube pops out... not so much.

Bad quality (now.) Materials have been changed and no longer the same product
By L K on Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2021
I have purchased this exact frisbee before and USED to love it. The look of it is the exact same, but the materials are completely different now. Unfortunately, the quality has gone down. It used to have durable material (almost cloth like or maybe it was plastic interweaved and it consisted of multiple layers.) It was heavy duty, yet remained lightweight. The frisbee CURRENTLY is one single plastic sheet (same feeling as an umbrella or thin poncho) . Within seconds, my two dogs’ teeth poked holes in the frisbees. And I say frisbees because I bought two thinking they would be the same as what I previously purchased. I will be searching for a new brand for my furbabies because of the flimsy material. The picture with my older pug holding the frisbee in her mouth is the ORIGINAL version of the frisbee. It was nice, strong, and durable. I only purchased new frisbees because it’s pretty beat up. The picture with my dogs playing tug-o-war with the frisbee is the NEW version. The new frisbee was punctured within seconds due to the different materials used to make it. The dogs weren’t playing any different with this frisbee than the previous frisbee. They LOOK exactly the same, but if you touched them— you can feel such a huge difference. I wish I could take a picture of the two products side by side, but I ended up throwing out the new frisbee since it was ruined.
