Very Nice Introduction to Rock Tumbling
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2011
This is my first tumbler and I really have nothing but good things to say about it. The design is simplicity itself, the build quality seems excellent and the fact that it has a flexible rubber drum keeps things surprisingly quiet. I have had it running for about 5 days now out in the garage and I have had no problems with leaks. They recommend putting a tray under it to catch any leakage, but given the relatively low level of water I opted for a folded up towel instead. This also seems to aid in noise reduction if you have it on a surface that would resonate. The only thing I can say that is the least bit negative is that on a level surface my drum has a tendency to drift to one side of the rollers (towards the drive wheel) and rub on the plastic spacer, creating a bit of friction and noise. I put some small pieces of rubber under that side to create a bit of an incline and it now sits against the other end of the rollers and the only noise to be heard is the tumbling of the rocks in the drum. This model/kit costs a bit more than some others that are out there, but the money is well spent. It's always been my feeling that when entering a hobby one should do so with quality equipment; this is quality equipment.

Good, But Not Great
By Stephen E. Swift on Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2016
Just finished with the first batch my daughter and I tumbled and the results were good. The tumbler is sturdy and solid, so no complaints on that front. I did have a few issues, one of which may be significant. First, the sales material eluded that there would be enough tumbling rough shipped with the package to get started. Not the case. The rough barely filled 2/3rds of the drum. Second, the instructions were vague in some areas. "Step 5 | ...Add enough powdered detergent to make stiff suds." If anyone knows the quantity required to comply with this direction, please share. Finally, during the final step (Cleaning), the top blew off the drum. Covered the entire tumbler and drum with powdered detergent residue. And to look at the drum, It seems as though the lip that helps hold the lid on has been distorted. If this is a chronic issue, my rating will drop to a zero. Plan to buy a replacement drum and see if this one holds up better. Overall, I like the design and performance. But there are opportunities for improvement. Assuming, of course, that this lid issue is the exception, and not the rule...
