Seasoning Grinder

I was really looking forward to these grinders because of what I thought was an excellent design. No getting pepper on the table - great idea. We put them on our wedding registry - two, in white and black, for our salt and pepper. They are a little pricey for such a basic item, but what the heck. Problem is that they dont work well. Grinding sea salt is OK, although a lot of excess salt tends to build up on the lip of the grinder, generally letting loose all at once so its hard to control how much salt you actually put on your food. As a pepper grinder this product gets an "F". It cant handle the pepper corns, often getting jammed. Unfortunately, this means that after six months, the plastic grinding mechanism has become stripped and mostly doesnt turn at all. In addition, the ceramic grinding surface has already begun to wear out. All I can say is "beware". These might work OK for some softer spices, but they've turned me from an enthusiastic buyer into a skeptic in a very short time. Revised: As it turns out, the grinder was defective and broke shortly after I posted this review. We returned the pepper grinder and it was replaced without charge. We have been using the replacement grinder for several months and it is working OK now. It does actually grind the peppercorns acceptably. I have upgraded the rating accordingly.

I've had other Seasoning Grinders before, only to be disappointed. I own 2 of these, white for salt, and black for pepper. The BEST opart of this seasoning Grinder is the grinding mechanism is on the top of th grinder so you DON'T have a mess in your cupboard or on your table. Well worth the money spent.

We have 5 of these. My wife likes them because they are easy and dependable. They don't leave salt or pepper on the table (most important). You can easily see whether it's salt or pepper. Fresh ground salt, "Sal Du Mare" "gross" (French for "course") is much better (and saltier) than the stuff with the little girl on it. And a good black pepper is always better fresh ground. Be careful not to loose the spring if you adjust the grind. It has a tendency to pop out.

I have 2, this one for salt and a black one for pepper. It grounds very fine to coarse, easy to load. It grinds a nice amount, especially if you need/want a lot. Also, because you invert it, it keeps surfaces clean. The large base makes it easier for big hands as well. It's large enough where someone won't misplace it and cool looking as well as functional.

Excellent product. I have had these myself for years and they just keep working as if they're brand new. Shame they seem to be a bit harder to get nowadays and that the colour range is now limited (used to come in many colours).

Used this at a restaurant in Grand Cayman and liked its looks and the fact it did a good job of what it was designed to do ... grind salt and pepper.

I'm not sure what happened with other reviewers units, but I've been using my black and white set daily for over 5 years now and they are still strong as ever. I love these grinders. The mechanism can be adjusted for desired coarseness and I love "upside down" design so I don't leave ground salt or pepper all over the table/counter when I'm using them. A very solid prodcut that I have bought time and again as gifts based on my own solid experience.

I loved this seasoning grinder. I had a set and my daughter dropped one off the table..I needed to replace it and I decided to buy one for my mother too....she LOVED it. I use mine for salt and pepper and they leave no messy ring on the table or counter. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an easy to use and clean grinder.
