Great Fryer - If you want success, read my review :)
By beadlady on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2015
If you read the instruction booklet - you will love this item! It is well designed. I am not easily impressed with tools or appliances that are not created to make life easier. This cool item is perfect for small portions of deep fried foods. Here are some points to remember: I suggest you not use the basket if you plan to do a thickly battered item. Simply remove the food with tongs when ready. If the batter is thick like tempura, your food will initially drop to the bottom of the basket and the batter will become imbedded in the grid. At that point, you have lost half your batter and grease will get to whatever you're cooking. Plus it has to be cleaned afterwards. If you are making french fries (they are gorgeous!), make sure to cook them according to the recipe booklet. They will be softer on the inside (unless you like them al dente'). As you are cooking, allow the 'ready' light on the front to come back on before adding more foods. It only takes a moment, but it ensures the oil has recovered to optimum frying temp. The ready light comes on before the highest temp is reached. I used a deep fry thermometer to check this. Although the oil is not quite to the thermostat level, it is hot enough for your food to start cooking rather than absorbing a lot of oil. Better to give it another minute after the light comes on initially. I love how the cover fits right over the basket and filters the steam as your food is cooking. I had no smoking at all at the high temp with peanut oil, but I didn't let it sit there on high with nothing in it either... READ THE BOOKLET! And I don't mean skim it. It explains how to correctly assemble the basket (doesn't come fitted for use). It explains why the plug is magnetic and the fryer should not be moved when plugged it - duh, think about it! It explains about not keeping it next to the sink where water could splash into it which is very dangerous. So many things I read in the reviews that were negative would never have been an issue if people would just read the book. It has a small footprint. It takes up less room than my toaster and when not it use, it's so compact and clean! I used peanut oil and had great results with it. I have made - french fries, zucchini and catfish. So far, I love it. My biggest problem is that I want to use it more often than I should. It makes french fries as good or better than in and out. Forget extruded fries from McD's. I look forward to using this nice appliance for many years.

Cutest little Appliance on the block UPDATE- Danger!
By Cowgirl on Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2014
Butcher block counter top that is! This thing is a mini power house! I will update my review as I proceed to use it but I have already used it twice this week and I just received it. I made egg rolls...then again left over egg rolls. I purchased peanut oil to use with this deep fryer and I'm happy I did. I poured in one quart and turned it on. It heated up VERY quickly. I used the basket to fry one egg roll at a time. For us, we don't mind the wait for using it in small batches. I'd rather take more time to cook than have a monstrosity of a machine taking up my extremely precious kitchen real estate. Its just so cute I can't stop looking at it! I did have turn the egg roll once, but I didn't care because it seemed silly to open another quart of peanut oil just to fry that tiny little bit that was sticking out. A turn was a simple answer. I'm looking forward to using this again for chicken wings this weekend! PRO: Compact. If you don't mind waiting for multiple batches it really gets the job done in small quantities. The basket could hold two good sized egg rolls side by side. Easy to clean. You just let it cool, filter the oil through a cheese cloth and refrigerate for later use, fill it with water and 1/4 cup baking soda. Let it boil 10 minutes, cool, dump, rinse, wipe. The basket and lid (without the filter) are top rack dishwasher safe. Controls that oily smell. The carbon filter in the lid control the "deep fry" smell very well. There is also a little window in the lid which is nice to see how the browning is coming along without opening the unit. Controls splatter. I didn't have any. This was so nice compared to frying in a pot on my stove- MESS! Still not sure if this is good or bad since this will make frying so much easier I'll want to do it more! Not good for my hips! Temperature control: While it is just a dial you turn...and I used it on the highest setting which made it easy...I believe it held its temperature well...I will be getting a thermometer just to check the temperature, but the food was grease free and the unit held its temperature well. After dropping food in the "ready" light went off for a very short time and flicked right back on. Price: Short money for a mini powerhouse. I'm glad I went with the reviews and bought this unit. I believe the instructions said it had a 3 year warranty too...which is unheard of for ANYTHING...and Cuisinart is a great long standing name with a good reputation. Magnetic cord: As a safety feature. CONS: Size...If you are looking for something to get dinner for four done in one swoop this isn't the unit. You will need to use this in batches and hold warm in the oven at 200 degrees. For me the tradeoff was not wanting a huge machine. I'll take the cute little size for the price of taking longer to fry. Short magnetic cord. It really isn't a problem for me. But I thought I'd mention it for others looking for this info. It is definitely short. Overall I would definitely recommend this little fryer. I will update as our relationship blooms...its only been a couple days so far! UPDATE: 1/15/2015 I noticed about a month ago that the nonstick coating was peeling off. I only use silicone utensils and I am very gentle in cleaning. I don't even use the wire basket that came with it! Then after the last time I washed it (baking soda bubble and rinse) when I wiped it out the paper towel was FULL of little black flecks...we are ingesting the non stock coating!! I have contacted the company- I will update with their response.
