Rating based on MY purpose for product
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2016
Hi everyone, I am writing this review for everyone still shopping for a similar product in order to provide some clarity on the subject. My rating is by no means a 5 star for EVERYTHING this product stands for. My 5-star rating is based solely on the purpose that "I" meant it for. So please read this entire review which is completely optional and entirely written on behalf as a customer. I am a medical student working on my clinical yrs and like many have acne breakouts. Growing up I had cystic acne and for over a decade has never gone away. Now time-n-time I've had short periods of clear skin but always to come back to the inevitable. Now at 26, it seemed "kinda" controlled but I recently moved to an area with snow (aka: cold temperature) which my body had never been before. I belief this change caused horrible non-stop breakouts like I had when I was younger. My "older forms of therapy" was no longer working and it was time to add something to my skincare regimen. In any case, during my studies I've learned much about Derm and my former skincare therapy may have been prevented by excessive dead skin. In sense, adding anything topical could make things worse as some would think when they say "I break out with any type of moisturizer I use," which was my case. Therefore my sole purpose of this review was given in my behalf to keep my breakouts at bay and if possible make them go away faster. You can skip this paragraph if you feel you don't need a lecture on acne breakouts. But to all others in a similar position a quick lesson. Acne in itself involves multiple mechanisms including (but not all) hyperkeratinization of hair follicles, increased sebum production (secondary to androgen production; aka your testosterone indirectly), bacterial Propionibacterium acnes, and resulting inflammation (speak with your derm about covering these mechanism for optimal results). Now microdermabrasion will NOT cover a counter to all this mechanisms but covers a great deal for this upward battle. To put this simply, think of yourself under 1 inch of dirt. (I know... bad analogy, but its the awkward ones that stick with you) If you push through with your hand its quite easy and not big deal. Now, what if you magnified the layer of dirt to 2 feet... then 3 ft... and so on. The harder it becomes for you to push to the surface. Now think of "you" in this story as the sebum pushing through your skin (or the "dirt" in the story). This will cause a blockage and a consequent monopoly of events. I've been using this product for 3 weeks and every week the breakouts have been diminished. This third week, I only had one breakout. But the best news is that it never comes out worse then a simple flare. No more cystic nodules. Microdermabrasion has definitely DECREASED breakouts and has also DECREASED its inflammatory state and makes them go away faster. Now to be fair, I can't give ALL this credit to microdermabrasion alone, but definitely couldn't have achieved this without it. If you read my story you'll understand that the less "dirt" on top that your sebum is fighting against, the less likely it is the get clogged but also the MORE likely your skincare products are to work. Therefore, I NO LONGER BREAK OUT with the moisturizer that i use, which is a blessing. Over more than a decade I've never been able to say this because I always broke out when using any type. A combination of therapy and microdermabrasion is what has been working to decrease flares, time of flares, as well as increase self-esteem. Its only been the 3rd week and I believe the longer I use this product the better my skin will get. With regards to winkles and acne scarring, thus far has provided an "appearance" of minor change if any. In conjunction I am working with other forms of therapy for this and the combination in itself can bring about impeccable results. Therefore I will not rate this aspect because its WAY to early in 3 weeks (skin layers fully shed after about 30 days) to say much either way. For hyper pigmented reddened scars, this microdermabrasion works WONDERS and I give it another 5-star on this behalf. This is what its been doing for my hyper pigmented scars and after 3 weeks has greatly diminished the redness of the scar. It of course hasn't gone away or been diminished a great deal, but around maybe 20-25%? Although I'd take that over this time period anyday! Plus It can only get better faster than it would without MicrodermMD On the simplicity and step-wise I give it another 5-star as it easy to use and understand. Truly dummy-proof. I can't comment on the pore-extractor tip much, as I've used it, but unsure of its benefits. Maybe more of a long-term result? Unsure but I've used it twice thus far. THINGS I WOULD CHANGE: As for the infusion tip I'd have to give this a 3-star rating. It is rather big and perfect for flat surfaces. However, keep in mind that the face is not a flat vertical surface and is therefore difficult to use on some areas. The video does not do a great deal and gives a "false impression" on the ease and use of it to be honest. I would like to see them make a video where the microdermMD is actually "on" and they use it with the infusion tip. The idea is great but the design of the structure in my opinion should change for flexibility with all parts of face. Not sure if this would be possible but I would like for a better control of suction. I had seen a Strap-on suction that goes around the thumb so you can have better control. Not sure if it was just me but I had minor difficulties around forehead area with this MicrodermMD but then n' again this could just be me.

Would not recommend

I purchased this device primarily based on the reviews that I had read here. However, I cannot honestly say that I have seen improvement at all based on the use of this device. I have used it for approximately two months, at the frequency recommended with the literature provided (3 to 4 times weekly). I cannot say that I have seen improvement in my skin's texture, in decreased pore size, or in lightened dark spots. I am very disappointed in this product, especially since it has received so many rave reviews. I am now past the return timeframe, so I guess I am stuck. I would say "buyer beware" and seriously think long and hard before shelling out this amount of money.
