*** Disregard the Negative Reviews - Installed Properly This Is Amazing!!!
By ATT on Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2017
I've been trying to understand all the negative reviews of this item. I don't quite understand it and I have to put it down to people not understanding how to install it properly. This is a sturdy metal gate with two extensions, one for either side. I have a 43.5" opening to my back hallway. I needed an extra wide gate so i picked one up at a local store. It was very high and was very, very hard to step over. I decided I needed one with a gate for walking through. I found this one here on Amazon but balked when reading some of the reviews about it being "a plastic piece of junk", "unsteady and easily pushed over", etc. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt since I'm on prime and could receive it quickly and make my own judgement. I figured I'd return either the one I bought locally or this one depending on how it went. Installation: For my opening (again 43.5") I needed one of the extenders. They are two different sizes and I used the bigger of the two. Maybe some of the people who had stability issues with the gate used the wrong size extender? IDK... So the gate has these threaded rods you spin to close the gap between the extender and the wall. They are really easy to adjust because they have adjustment knobs built right in. NOTE*** - People mentioning that the gate and latch don't line up may have not realized that they do have a gap but once it is tightened in place, that gap closes up. So looking at the gate out of the box you could say it doesn't line up properly but once tightened up and in place it's lined up perfectly. Within 5 minutes I had this thing tightened up and installed just fine. The swinging gate works like a champ and the locking mechanism is easy to use. I did read about people having problems with the latch but you basically just pull back the latch release on top and lift the gate up to open. You have to lift it because it has a piece that goes over the bottom rail to keep the gate steady on the bottom end. One thing I didn't do is screw the wall receivers into the wall. It comes with screws to do this but I wanted to check out the functionality before screwing them in. To anyone saying that a child or anyone else could knock this over, obviously didn't screw the wall receivers into a solid wooden part of the wall. If they had, you'd have to bend the entire gate to get it out of those and "knock it over". So.... Sorry for the long review but I hate seeing products get slammed for peoples failings in installation. I seriously wanted to pass on this item but I'm very glad I didn't. Worth the price and I won't be face planting in the middle of the night headed to the bathroom anymore.

Do you want to drill into your walls, how handy are you?
By Eric F. on Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2019
This product is a fair bit cheaper than a number of the alternative products that I looked at, and that in most ways makes up for the weaknesses of the product. It's generally a get what you paid for deal, however the product does advertise itself to be a pressure mount installation (meaning you shouldn't have to drill any holes) and I just don't think that's really the case. The biggest issue I think most people will realize with the gate is that the overall structure is a bit flimsy. The upright section on the left and right of the pass-thru opening are not strong enough. This means that when you crank down on the rubber feet that secure the gate in between 2 walls, you can go too far and actually flex the uprights inwards. When this happens, the lock/latch mechanism will not work properly and you effectively can't open the gate door. Basically it's pinched in on itself. So you have to back off the tension on the rubber feet things till the latch opens again. The tension in the rubber feet at this point is only 'so-so' and therefore the gate isn't super firmly wedged in between whatever two walls you're attached to. My daughter nearly busted her head (grandma caught her) when 5 minutes after being installed, she went and 'hung' on it and pulled it right out of the opening on our stairs, falling to the ground with the gate on top of her. She was just over a year old and probably weighed 20 lbs; so if she can yank it out, anything can. In defense of the gate, it probably says somewhere in the instructions that you have to screw the plastic cups into the wall so the rubber feet can't slide out. My issue, and probably a lot of people, is that I didn't want to have to put screw holes in my walls, or specifically in my case into my newel posts, hence why I bought a "pressure mounted" gate in the first place. If they built the gate sturdier, you'd be able to really wrench down on the rubber feet, and friction alone would secure the gate. The problem with this gate is that it's just too flimsy and cranking down on the rubber feet bends the thing in on itself and the gate wont open. You can see from my photos that I got creative with some zip-ties, wooden blocks, and padding. I was ultimately able to secure the gate firmly without having to drill holes in my newel posts. Some of the work I had to do was related to my newel posts being thicker at bottom than at the top and therefore the gate spacing was different top and bottom. There probably isn't a gate on the market that would accommodate this without something custom. I've had the gate installed for about 2 years now and haven't had any issues with it. The latch mechanism and gate hinge are simple and work fine, they work the same today as they did 2 years go. The gate is probably 3.5 stars, but since I have to pick between 3 or 4, and the average person may not be willing or capable to do what I did to secure the gate without putting holes in the wall, 3 stars it is.

We recently got a puppy that turned out to be blind, so we had to start puppy proofing the house. When she was just a tiny pup, we were keeping her mainly in our kitchen to keep her from having accidents on the carpet elsewhere in the house. We have a wide opening into our kitchen, and this gate worked perfectly to block off that opening. Installation was easy. The directions are clear and concise. If you are using it with the screw in cups to make the gate sturdier, I would recommend using a larger screw than the ones provided. We used it without the cups, and it holds up fine even when the dog bangs against it. We like the one that we used in the kitchen so much that when the puppy got older, we decided to get one to put at the top of the steps on our deck to keep her safe from tumbling down the steps. You would think that a blind dog would be cautious, but nope. Not this dog. To make sure that she was completely safe, we used to cups to help keep the gate extra secure. The gate is super sturdy. I've rattled it, shook it, banged on it, etc. and it doesn't budge in the slightest. The swinging part of the gate opens and closes easily, which is so much better than the old baby gates that you had to take down and put back every time you wanted to go through them. The gate also has a metal tab to hold it in place at the bottom, and the latch at the top of the gate is easy to open and close. One thing to note - you have to make sure that you extend the spindle rods ate the top to the right length to let the latch close properly. If you put too much pressure, the latch will not be able to open. If you put too little, it will not latch properly. However, this is easy to adjust. I highly recommend this product to anyone needing a really sturdy gate.
Works great in stairwell with extra enforcement

Overall this is a great product and value. It is strong and durable given its width span, but you will have to screw the anchor points in. It’s not 100% solid and as with any baby gate we don’t trust it all the way. Given its width there is no perfect baby gate for something as scary as a stairwell. Reinforce the anchors as best you can and it will work. We don’t let our son pull on it etc, but it is very safe. Looks nice and the height is perfect. I do like that the latch is double enforced (you have to double check it’s locked correctly). That’s a plus.

We purchased this product for our 25-30 pound dog. We needed a wider gate as our hallways measured 43". Prior attempts to create a gate out of other products had failed. I saw the mixture of comments claiming the gate was weak and did not fit together correctly. Based on our puppies actions, we needed a gate badly so I decided to give this product a try. The gate came well packaged and was easy to remove from the box. My 5 year old daughter was able to assist me and I completed the gate in less than 10 minutes. The directions were very small, but were able to be put together easily. I used the longer extension to fit the hallway. I did not need the smaller extension. I placed the gate in the hallway and used the wall fasteners to keep the gate tight to the wall. It was easy to tighten up the gate so that there was no gap in the gate. I saw many reviews that stated this gate was weak and flimsy. I did not use the screws into the wall and this gate is very strong and snug. I believe a failure to install the gate correctly has led to poor reviews. My family and I would buy another one of these if needed. Hope this review helps!
Quick Easy Fix For Puppies on the Rampage!

I just received the gate this morning (Thank you Amazon Prime two day shipping!) and had it set up in less than 10 minutes and that was including reading through the instructions!! I purchased this gate to keep my 2 puppies from going upstairs and destroying our brand new carpet. My requirements were 1) gate with a door, 2) Door easily opened and closed by school aged children, 3) Close enough slats to keep small dogs from squeezing through, and 4) A gate that would fit in the odd width of the stairwell entrance. I found all of this and much more with this gate! I have only had it up for about 30 minutes, but so far it is working just as I had hoped! The gate comes packed well. The pieces are zip tied together to keep them from bumping around during shipment and there is minimal use of Styrofoam (another something I like to keep the puppies away from!). There are three main pieces to this gate, 4 mounting pressure screws and 4 cups that can be mounted to the wall to keep the pressure screws in the exact location you want them. It says that you must use these if you install at the top of the stairs, and I can see why, but since I was mounting at the bottom of the stairs and only using to keep the puppies at bay, I did not install these. The large center piece has the gate in it and then there are two gate additions that can be mounted on either side to extend the gate. You simply remove the protective caps from the addition pieces, slide them on to the main gate and slide the pressure mounting screws into the 4 corners...then adjust the screws to the right pressure. That's it! The fit is perfect and tight in my stairwell! I did notice that the door looked a little crooked at first, but I had installed the four corners slightly uneven, so a slight wiggle to get the gate in square with the opening and wahlah! My kids have tested the door repeatedly and it is in perfect working order ;-) As for use with small children, I believe this gate would work perfect at the bottom of stairs or in between rooms. I am not a huge fan of gates at the top of the stairs that are not completely mounted into the wall because children tend to lean and climb and fall into these things easily, but as far as construction goes, this is a great gate!

Much better than some other gates and nice for the price

Let me start off by saying this is THIRD gate we've purchased to keep our 1 year old out of the cat food and water. The first one we bought was the old fashioned wooden Evenflo gate with the fold down tension bar.. those things are terrible now compared to the way they used to be designed. The second one we bought was the smaller version of the Regalo baby swing gate. The gate was acceptable but far from great. I'm so glad we changed our minds about that one and ordered this instead. Assembling and installing this one, the differences make so much more sense. I'm not sure if this is an old design and the quality of their newer gates has gone downhill, or if they've listened to feedback from customers and this gate is a new and improved design. Either way, this version is worlds better. The handle/locking mechanism is easy to use and very manageable using it one-handed (the other Regalo gate is so awkward and difficult, I didn't even lock it all the way because opening it was a headache). I also love that this version of the gate will swing open in either direction (other version only opened one way). This gate can also be fully disassembled if you need to take it apart (the other version had a pin that held the door on that "could not be removed by hand" after inserting it, according to the manual). This gate is sturdy and nice and will definitely serve it's purpose well. I'm not going to use the cups for this gate since I don't want to put more holes in the walls than necessary and it seems to be sturdy enough with just the tension. I will say that people should be aware of their measurements and the measurements of this gate and it's extensions. The main piece itself is about 29" without any extensions and then you have the option of using a 4" and/or 12" extension in addition to the 29" main piece. So it may be awkward for certain size openings. Also, a lot of people complained that the gate appeared bent and wouldn't latch.. but that is before installation. After the gate is installed and the tension is tightened, the bars come together and will latch correctly. That's mentioned in several places.

This is, without a doubt, the WORST product I have ever purchased on Amazon. If it weren't so big and difficult to pack back up, I would definitely be sending it back for a refund. As it is, I'll be purchasing another gate, and we'll see if I have the time or energy to send this pile back. To begin with the product is incredibly rickety. It included two extensions, a larger one and a smaller one, to allow you to get the correct size gate, but these extension do not attach to the main gate with any sort of hardware. The result is two extensions that just slip onto the main gate, and then slip off at first opportunity while you're trying to install the thing. I ended up having to duct tape the extensions on just to get them to stay put during installation. Once the gate was installed and the duct tape came off, the gate wobbles at the connecting points for the extensions. Since the gate relies on pressure to keep the whole thing together, this wobbling causes the whole gate to be unstable after installation. Next, let's talk about sizing. The hallway I gated off is almost exactly 47" wide, which apparently is the EXACT wrong width for this gate. With both extensions on, plus the mounting hardware, it is a good half inch too wide to fit in that opening. With only the large extension on, the gate is not big enough for the opening, and the result is that the pressure screws on the end are almost fully extended to make contact with the wall. This means there is about 4" or 5" of space at the end of the gate; plenty of room for a child or dog to get their head stuck. Not to mention that, with the pressure screws extended that far, the entire gate sags, and this exaggerates its already pronounced flimsiness. I ended up having to "attach" both extensions and leave the pressure screws off one end of the gate to get it to (barely) fit. Of course, the end of the gate isn't exactly wall friendly, so I have nice scratches and dents in my wall now. Not the end of the world since they're not really visible with the gate installed, but it's too easy for those to slide off, so I'd need to put some type of rubber bushing there if I intended to keep this thing. The door mechanism is clumsy - you have the pull a slippery plastic piece back to unseat a bolt, then lift the whole door up in order to move it. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the plastic piece wasn't so slippery and the entire structure of the gate didn't flop about when you put any sort of pressure on it. There's also a small plastic spacer for the bolt in the door, which fell off at first opportunity and is a rather nice choking hazard. That's about it for the features of the gate. It's simple, so there's not a lot to talk about it. In every conceivable way a gate could fail, this gate does. Of course, for $30 I guess they figure who could complain, right? Spend the extra $$$ to buy something more capable and less frustrating.

As a parent, this gate has been a lifesaver in our home. It’s wide enough (47 inches) to block off large openings, and the walk-through design makes it easy for adults to pass through without hassle. The bonus extension kits (4" and 12") were perfect for customizing the fit in our hallway. Installation was quick with the pressure mount kit, and the wall cups add extra stability. It feels sturdy and secure, even with a toddler constantly testing it! The gate opens and closes smoothly, and the latch is easy for adults but tough for little hands. For the price, it’s a great value—durable, adjustable, and safe. Highly recommend for any parent needing a reliable gate for wide spaces.
