*** Disregard the Negative Reviews - Installed Properly This Is Amazing!!!
By ATT on Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2017
I've been trying to understand all the negative reviews of this item. I don't quite understand it and I have to put it down to people not understanding how to install it properly. This is a sturdy metal gate with two extensions, one for either side. I have a 43.5" opening to my back hallway. I needed an extra wide gate so i picked one up at a local store. It was very high and was very, very hard to step over. I decided I needed one with a gate for walking through.I found this one here on Amazon but balked when reading some of the reviews about it being "a plastic piece of junk", "unsteady and easily pushed over", etc. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt since I'm on prime and could receive it quickly and make my own judgement. I figured I'd return either the one I bought locally or this one depending on how it went.Installation:For my opening (again 43.5") I needed one of the extenders. They are two different sizes and I used the bigger of the two. Maybe some of the people who had stability issues with the gate used the wrong size extender? IDK...So the gate has these threaded rods you spin to close the gap between the extender and the wall. They are really easy to adjust because they have adjustment knobs built right in.NOTE*** - People mentioning that the gate and latch don't line up may have not realized that they do have a gap but once it is tightened in place, that gap closes up. So looking at the gate out of the box you could say it doesn't line up properly but once tightened up and in place it's lined up perfectly.Within 5 minutes I had this thing tightened up and installed just fine. The swinging gate works like a champ and the locking mechanism is easy to use. I did read about people having problems with the latch but you basically just pull back the latch release on top and lift the gate up to open. You have to lift it because it has a piece that goes over the bottom rail to keep the gate steady on the bottom end.One thing I didn't do is screw the wall receivers into the wall. It comes with screws to do this but I wanted to check out the functionality before screwing them in. To anyone saying that a child or anyone else could knock this over, obviously didn't screw the wall receivers into a solid wooden part of the wall. If they had, you'd have to bend the entire gate to get it out of those and "knock it over".So.... Sorry for the long review but I hate seeing products get slammed for peoples failings in installation. I seriously wanted to pass on this item but I'm very glad I didn't. Worth the price and I won't be face planting in the middle of the night headed to the bathroom anymore.

Do you want to drill into your walls, how handy are you?
By Eric F. on Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2019
This product is a fair bit cheaper than a number of the alternative products that I looked at, and that in most ways makes up for the weaknesses of the product. It's generally a get what you paid for deal, however the product does advertise itself to be a pressure mount installation (meaning you shouldn't have to drill any holes) and I just don't think that's really the case. The biggest issue I think most people will realize with the gate is that the overall structure is a bit flimsy. The upright section on the left and right of the pass-thru opening are not strong enough. This means that when you crank down on the rubber feet that secure the gate in between 2 walls, you can go too far and actually flex the uprights inwards. When this happens, the lock/latch mechanism will not work properly and you effectively can't open the gate door. Basically it's pinched in on itself. So you have to back off the tension on the rubber feet things till the latch opens again. The tension in the rubber feet at this point is only 'so-so' and therefore the gate isn't super firmly wedged in between whatever two walls you're attached to. My daughter nearly busted her head (grandma caught her) when 5 minutes after being installed, she went and 'hung' on it and pulled it right out of the opening on our stairs, falling to the ground with the gate on top of her. She was just over a year old and probably weighed 20 lbs; so if she can yank it out, anything can.In defense of the gate, it probably says somewhere in the instructions that you have to screw the plastic cups into the wall so the rubber feet can't slide out. My issue, and probably a lot of people, is that I didn't want to have to put screw holes in my walls, or specifically in my case into my newel posts, hence why I bought a "pressure mounted" gate in the first place. If they built the gate sturdier, you'd be able to really wrench down on the rubber feet, and friction alone would secure the gate. The problem with this gate is that it's just too flimsy and cranking down on the rubber feet bends the thing in on itself and the gate wont open. You can see from my photos that I got creative with some zip-ties, wooden blocks, and padding. I was ultimately able to secure the gate firmly without having to drill holes in my newel posts. Some of the work I had to do was related to my newel posts being thicker at bottom than at the top and therefore the gate spacing was different top and bottom. There probably isn't a gate on the market that would accommodate this without something custom.I've had the gate installed for about 2 years now and haven't had any issues with it. The latch mechanism and gate hinge are simple and work fine, they work the same today as they did 2 years go.The gate is probably 3.5 stars, but since I have to pick between 3 or 4, and the average person may not be willing or capable to do what I did to secure the gate without putting holes in the wall, 3 stars it is.
