Cheap rear projection screen material (updated and still a great use for this product)
By Riledup on Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2012
Not exactly the kind of review you're expecting for a shower curtain liner. I bought this for the frosted material to try making a rear projection screen out of PVC pipe. The grommets were weak, but they really weren't designed for what I was trying to do. So I cut off those grommets and laid down black duct tape on both sides around the entire perimeter of the remaining material. I then installed grommets every 8 inches, and ran a cord through the grommets and around the pvc pipe frame...kind of like lacing up a shoe. The material has a little stretch to it, so the screen flattened out nicely. Update: 5/3/2012 Purchased the 108 inch wide x 72 inch long version to make another screen. The previous one I made works fine, but I wanted to get an even larger display for movie nights. I should be able to get a usable 104 inch by 60, which will yield nearly 120 inch screen size compared to the 78 inch I got from the previous 72 x 72 curtain. I'm going to build it the same way with black duct tape around the perimeter on both sides, but put in less grommets initially. I want to see if just having corner grommets, 2 more top and bottom and 1 on each side will do the trick. Instead of a dedicated pvc frame, I'm going to modify my DJ speaker stands instead. I bought some adjustable subwoofer pole mounts that allow me to reach nearly 8 ft high. A horizontal brace at the top will keep the screen tight while the legs of the stands allow tension on the bottom. Update: 7/6/2017 Still using both screens I made from the two sizes of shower curtains. Noticed many recent reviewers have done the same thing. I'm still using my biggest one for outdoor movie nights and the occasional Packer football game. Betwen uses, I hang the screen in a closet using one of those hangers with the pant clips. It helps reduce the chance of creases forming if you have the tape border I described in my earlier review. If you fold it to about half again wider than the hanger, the clips hold it by the flat area, and the folds can stay curved to avoid creases. Ordering a couple of the 72x72 curtains to actually use as shower curtain. They definitely last longer than cheaper curtains before getting mildew. I think they'd last longer if my wife didn't use hair coloring.
