Superlative product
By Dave on Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2016
I have used electric blankets for longer than I care to remember. I have used Sunbeam products for much of that time and lived through the era of the clicking controls, etc., with and other similar foibles having been corrected over the years.I viewed the introduction of the microwire products as a clever option and left some time pass to allow perfection of the product. It seems that during this time the quality control of the Sunbeam product began to decline and I had to return several for various defects either in the wiring or the controllers; therefore, I decided to try the new technology, and after some research, I decided on this brand.I waited for about 5 months from the time of purchase to write the review so as to get a reasonable impression of reliability. Not only was I not disappointed, I was truly gratified with my decision. The blanket works on a low voltage format with dual step down transformers on the king model. This greatly reduces the risk of burn or fire. For those who want a toasty hot blanket, this is not the blanket for you, but I would argue that this is not really the purpose of this product which is beautifully designed to provide an adjustable scale of even heat throughout the night. I would suggest that if you need a blast of heat quickly when you go to bed, have small electric hair drier handy to use CAREFULLY for a half minute or so under the co era to provide that instant heat infusion and then let this blanket take over.If you turn the blanket on high setting for about an hour before bedtime, you will find the sheets nicely heated when you retire. The blanket control has an auto shutoff feature at about 10 hours post initial setting time, so if you are planning a long night's sleep, and have set up the preheat at an early hour, I suggest that you turn the controller off and then on again before retiring to initiate a new shutoff cycle so as to avoid a cold bed at the end of sleep. The blanket is made of microfiber and is soft without that that slightly rubbery feeling characteristic of some of those products, and it's fit and finish exudes quality. You barely can perceive the wiring. You can tuck the blanket under the mattress but the connector must be face up; however due to the fragile nature of the electrical wires, that bending is not recommended. Best method is to just drape the blanket over the sheet which works in a maximally flexible manner for orienting the length of blanket available according to taste.I have found that the blanket control works best set at 8-9 for ambient temperatures ranging from 40 -70, on high for lower outside temps , and lower controller temps during the summer season. The two controllers work completely independently of each other. The blanket has worked flawlessly since the initial day of service. I am in the process of ordering a second identical blanket so I'll have it at the ready in the future. I'll post a follow-up at one year to give people a better idea on longterm reliability. It stands to reason that because of the more delicate wiring, more care may be necessary on a day to day basis, particularly sitting omit or folding back on itself for prolonged periods when the current is on.. Although the blankets are officially machine washable, it might be wisest to take it to a professional laundry where they exercise respect for delicate fabrics ......yes such places ARE out there.BOTTOM LINE : Highly recommended.

Still cold 3 months later
By Kimberly Aronstam on Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2014
My best friend has this blanket on his bed and the only time I ever sleep through the night is under it at his place. Naturally, I saved up for a few months and ordered one. It arrived several days late even though I'm Prime. They were very cold days locally and I thought my misery was over when it arrived. Nope.I plugged it in almost immediately and slept under it. For the first time in a year and a half, I slept for 4 hours straight without waking cold every hour as my electric hot pad has a 1 hour auto shut off. Then, the first time I had clean sheets put on, about a week later, it stopped working. It would turn on and then shut off about 7 seconds later, definitely not the advertised 10 hours. If unplugged and plugged back in once or twice, it would start working again. I figured it might have a loose connection, but at least it was working because holy cow has it been cold this winter. After a couple more weeks, it started shutting off randomly in the middle of the night leaving me waking cold and shivering. Due to my health, that's a pretty serious problem. I called Amazon to return it. They said that a new blanket would be in the mail to me that day and to expect it's arrival 3 days later. I'm Prime. That should be TWO DAYS, but at least it'd be replaced so I let it go.Several more days pass and the new blanket is late as was the first. I called Amazon who transferred me to FedEx even though the order tracking stated that it never left Amazon, tag created but never handed off to FedEx. Two days later, FedEx verified this and told me to have Amazon send me a new one. I passed this information on to Amazon who said they'd take care of it. Then? Oops. We sold out of them. Sorry!!!So here I am, begging everyone I know to see if they've got a big enough box to ship the damn thing back since I can't afford to go buy a great big box. And even though I ordered this blanket in November, it's now the end of January and I'm still unable to sleep for more than an hour when my electric hot pad shuts off. I'm exhausted and pissed beyond words and a poorly made blanket that's clearly lacking in quality control and even more pissed at Amazon who twice just this month alone has said they've shipped items to me and my partner only to have them make a label and not hand off to the shipping company. BOTH ITEMS ended up sold out and the other non-blanket items was marked as, "Won't be in stock again. Sorry!"Of course now it's the middle of winter and prices have been marked up all over the place and I can't find a cheaper blanket anymore. I only ordered through Amazon originally because it had my Prime shipping that made it faster to arrive than the cheaper blanket from another site.Amazon your customer service SUCKS BIG TIME and you need to take the hit and ship the beige colored blanket immediately. Extending my Prime membership by a month? REALLLY? How can you possibly think that fixes anything? Here. Let's give you another month of what is clearly shoddy service and leave you hanging for ages. Just wonderfully horrid. If you need an electric blanket, this one is decent when it works. Make sure you order through a site with a good defect return policy and someone who will actually ship the items you pay for in a timely fashion rather than ignore you, sell the one you bought to someone else and leave you in a frozen limbo all winter!
