What a GREAT -- no, INCREDIBLE light!
By MD on Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2013
We have an area at our office building, an upper deck with entryway, that has no outside light. We could get something wired in, but not very easily, given that it is a cinder block building and there isn't any wiring close to draw from, plus, it's the hassle of installation, and another light to forget to leave on or forget to turn off. So, this seemed ideal -- a motion activated porch light for the times we are accessing that door, after dark, which happens frequently for our later shift. I mounted this right in the upper corner of the rather wide wooden door sill (so I didn't have to deal with the cinder block), and it's a gem! Works GREAT! The outside security lighting we have does not reach that doorway, so, even though our back parking lot is fairly well lit, this light still pops on reliably whenever we are using that upstairs back door at night. The only issue we had was that, if the inside upstairs was well lit, then, when you opened the door from the inside, at night, this light did not kick on, because there was too much light coming through the windows of the door itself, and so the sensor did not sense enough darkness to know to turn the light on, when motion was sensed (the door opening, for example). We could maybe have gotten around that with trial and error of location, maybe, but I found that just leaving off the inside lamps nearest the door dimmed things down enough for the sensor to know that it is "night" and pop the light on when the door is opened from inside. So, problem solved, and it now also acts as a motion sensor warning, given that, if someone is at the back door, we see the light kick on and shine in through the back door window. So, a terrific product, does what it says, won't run down batteries because it only comes on as needed, is easily mounted and aimed wherever you want it to shine, and throws a BRIGHT and fairly wide spot of light. It is a "spot light" kind of light, so, good to keep in mind that it does not (and is not designed to) shine beyond where it is pointed really, but, if you are looking for a quick area light with no wiring issues, that is motion activated, this is a great light and I highly recommend it! ***** UPDATE: December, 2013: Just wanted to say that, not only is this light still going strong, but it's still on the SAME ORIGINAL batteries from installing it, back in January of this year, and showing no signs of significant dimming, WOW!!! That will be a year of use, in a few weeks, on the same batteries. Light is still working GREAT!!! Needless to say, Mr. Beams ROCKS!!!

1 Good Light, The Other 2 Not Working (UPDATE).
By Wilf on Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2015
Another UPDATE: So, I've been disappointed in the outcome of Mr. Beams because of the 3 lights, only one has continued to work the way it should. This is mounted in the backyard up fairly high and it's been well over a year and still holding up well. However, the other 2 have not. One we mounted on the North side of the house where it is darkest and it worked for about 3 months and suddenly just stopped. It maintained a pinprick of light in the lens for awhile but that is gone now. We put tape around the housing seam to keep moisture out even though these are suppose to be "weatherproof" but my guess is that this one got moisture in it with more rain exposure coming from that side. It's up high and we haven't had a chance to take it down and find out for sure. The last one we never mounted because the LIGHT would NOT turn off and stayed on continuously. We had to remove the battery. So really only 1 out of 3 Mr. Beams performed like they should have. We'd need to find a wireless light(s) because we still have both sides of our house which are just too dark - Any Ideas?? UPDATE: I've been meaning to come back and give an update. They've been up now for about 5 months and unfortunately one of them on the north side of the house (the darkest of all areas) went out around the 3rd month. I noticed a little tiny dot of light on the Mr. Beam but no longer works to provide the normal beam of light it did before. I don't know why it would have went out already ..but the others have continued working. Also, we wrapped the cylinders in a few layers of tape at the seam just in case the rain hit it. So, when I get a chance, I'll take it back down, untape it and see what's up. They are working really well! I would like them to stay on a little longer...they go off within 30 seconds and wish they stayed on 45 seconds instead. I've installed them about 13 feet up and they give off great light. I'm going to order a couple more for the other side of the house.
