Thirsty towels at an excellent value for everyday use
By JVT on Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2011
I wanted new towels for a remodeled bathroom and my search criteria was 1st and foremost for the bath towels to be really absorbant. After that, I wanted the right color, good value (quality for the price), adequate size, and reasonable softness. I read reviews of many towels and settled on two of these Pike Street sets and am happy to say that all of my needs were met. I love the texture - another reviewer described these towels as soft and brisk/prickly at the same time and this combo works perfectly for drying off. The bath towel absorbs water immediately vs. moving it around on my body first. I ordered the cream color and was delighted to find a much richer and deeper cream than how it looked on the monitor. Other reviewers commented on size and they are right: bath, hand and wash towels are very generously sized. I have laundered the towels several times and so far, so good on both quality (no hanging threads as others have complained about) and reasonable softness. It should be noted that I do not like towels that are overly soft; I have always felt they sacrificed actual drying for softness. Finally, the price from amazon.com can't be beaten (especially with free shipping). I am so satisified, I just placed an order for a 2nd set in a coordinating color.

Disappointed with the current sets
By Objective Subjective on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2015
Two years ago when we first ordered these, we thought of them as a best buy and a great value, as they were thick and thirsty and soft. Far better than towels at the major department stores that sold for twice as much at their so-called 50% Off sales. So, we ordered several more sets recently. We are very disappointed with the current sets from Pinzon. From the start and even after five washings, these new ones have not "thickened" and they are not at all "thirsty". They still soft, but softness alone doesn't cut it if you need more than one bath towel to dry yourself after a shower. Softness alone doesn't cut it if the hand towel feels "wet" after one use. So, 3 stars because at this price, they are just "OK". I would have to say these are now only as good as the low-end department store towels which sell for 4.99/3.99/2.99 (bath/hand/finger) when they are 50%off. Add that up and you get the Amazon price. We won't be buying these again. By the way, we have noticed many reviews which claim these towels shed too much and unravel easily. In both our old sets and these new ones, this has not happened. Face it, any new towel is going to create a lot of lint in your dryer for the first 2 or even 3 washings, but after that lint production is minimal.

Oversized, Soft & Fluffy Towel Sets

The Pike Street Towels are over-sized, very soft, and beautiful colors! I bought the cream and the wedgewood blue - both very lovely! I plan to give them as gifts to my daughter in laws so I washed and dried them. The braiding with satin trim on each really make these an expensive-looking towel. They are a nice weight - not to heavy and not too thin - perfect for washing and drying. I put two sets in one washload. My large capacity washer had no trouble with them. I was a bit skeptical on buying towels sight unseen, but after reading some positive reviews, I decided to try them. The wash clothes are a nice size - not too big as one person suggested. The hand towels a little longer than average - you could possibly even dry young children with them. The over-sized bath towel will definitely wrap around most people! I highly recommend these towels. Dawn Kurtz Author of kindle book Secret of the Mexican Doll
Great value for the price

I ordered these towels in 4 different colors along with a boatload bedding, because I suddenly had 5 extra people coming to stay. I really just needed to cover the bases so I wouldn't run out, and I tried to coordinate towels with bedding sets. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. I ran them through the wash to get them nice and soft, and everything was great. I washed darks together, and the cream, which is more like a lovely butter yellow separately. Yes, there was a bunch of lint I kept clearing from the dryer, but after all was said and done, they are fine towels for the price. Oddly enough, the thickness varies from color to color, and from size to size, but none are embarrassing. The hand towels are thinner, which is okay with me for a guest situation. The thickest were the plum color, which are a lovely, rich shade of amethyst. The moss and Wedgewood are pretty too. Quite happy with this purchase.
Hotel-grade towels on the cheap! Soft, heavy and thirsty

I'm a divorced guy who lives alone, and I tend to buy things for myself that are 'good enough'...including towel sets (Walmart, Target, etc.). Despite the 'Egyptian Cotton' claims, I really purchased these towels because it was a lot less expensive than buying a full set at a discount store. Imagine my surprise, when the product turned out to be a hotel quality set of towels...and, I should know: after 3 decades as a salesman, I have stayed at a LOT of hotels. These are thick, soft, heavy and thirsty towels that look really nice on the towel bar; and, feel fantastic when you step out of the shower. I know some reviewers have complained that their sets have not held up well. All I can tell you is that I wash mine in hot water, with an Arm & Hammer laundry detergent packet, and a scoop of Oxi-Clean. After 8 washings, they are perfect: no pilling, shredding, fading...nothing bad. I am planning on getting another set, and would recommend these to anyone.
Pinzon Basics Pike Street 100pct Egyptian Cotton towels

OK. First the (small) gripe... Like MOST any other towels out there, brand new ones do come with the propensity to feel like they are not getting you completely dry when first used. This is because, dear friends they are treated at the factory with whatever they use to protect and enhance the dye which gives your towel its color. Even the white ones have this protectant applied to them and, over time and several wash and dry cycles they do soften up and become even more absorbent. Having said that we have used these really nice quality towels for about a year now and they have stopped shedding the fluff in the dryer like a cat with alopecia. Like nice blue jeans they have gotten better with time and are now quite comfortable and luxurious. Be patient.... It does take a bit of time to break them in the way you want them. Very good quality and nice for the price in my opinion..

Liked 'em so much I bought three sets!

I was looking for a new set of towels, and came across these. They had high reviews and the price was right (cheaper than buying the pieces individually from Wal-mart, even) so I went for it. I'm really impressed with these towels. The color was true to the picture, we've had them for several months with no fading or lose thread problems, and they look very high-quality. I love when I buy pretty inexpensive things and they look like I spent a bunch of money on them. After buying the first set, we bought two more in different colors for our other bathroom and a spare set. I will definitely buy these again if I'm in need of another set, or I'll recommend them to the next person I hear is looking for new towels. ------- Update January 2014: Over a year and a half later and the towels are still holding up very well! I would buy these again.

I ordered these and they are of high quality. I ordered three sets and put each set in the dresser drawers of one of our three spare bedrooms so guests could have a brand new set of towels to use so that they know they have not been used before. I also ordered robes and slippers for their convenience as well and placed them in the guest bedrooms. Regarding the price... well... you can get just as nice of towels at Wal-Mart for less money. Also, Steinmart has some beautiful ones that are nicer and have great embroidery for hanging on the towel bar in your guest bathrooms and they are cheaper too. These are nice but if I had it to do all over again I would just buy at Steinmart and get nicer towels for less money.
Threads are pulling after first wash

I didn't notice at first because I didn't wash these before I started using them, but I washed a single set of these by themselves on a warm cycle in a front loading Samsung. I then dried them on delicate setting twice which is low heat. At least two of the items have pulled threads. I looked these over fairly closely when opening so I know this happened in the wash. I took a second look at target towels and I think these are comparable with what they carry now - in terms of initial looks and feel. Most of my existing towels have pulled threads now, but I know it wasn't after the first wash. So disappointed because I thought I had scored such a great deal. Still a good price if you receive a set without the issue so I am hesitantly giving a second star. I'm returning all of mine - I'll pay more for better. ***original review*** These were on special for $5 off when I bought the set - I bought 3 sets. And I'm not disappointed. They seem plenty big - bigger than expected, but I was hoping for fluffier towels. These aren't bad at all - they are way better than anything local at this price point. But they don't compete with towels that you'll pay $20 each. One can dream, right? But they'll dry quicker and they are plenty hefty for the price I paid. I don't know what the big deal is with Egyptian cotton. They seem like ordinary cotton to me but again they are nice towels. They are nicer than the towels they replace that came from target. All towels shrink 3 or 4" so I expect these will also. Out of the package these aren't the softest - I suggest washing them first. These probably deserve 5 stars because they are such a great value but I struggle with Egyptian cotton supposedly being better and I can't tell it is anything special.
Yes, they are linty . . . but you cannot beat the price

I read about others' comments about how much lint these towels throw off, and it is true. They do leave a lot of lint in your dryer and (during the 1st couple of washes) inside your washing machine. BUT, this diminishes over time. Considering that the price is so very low, I consider these towels pretty good quality. They are soft, and after the first two washes, I don't get lint off them when I am using them. So far (I've only owned them a few weeks now), they seem to be keeping their shape and only shrunk down from their unwashed sizes about a half-inch all around. I got cream, and it seems to have a more yellowish cast than other cream towels I have bought. But still is cream and looks pretty good to me.
