Best electric blanket I've ever owned - Cats approved too!

I've owned & used an old electric blanket for some 35 years and it was finally time to get it replaced since it was becoming threadbare in places. It was a nice analog relic from the mid-1980's. As you can imagine, I was picky about what would replace it. I'm well past college age now and needed a king size. I bought this one after looking at reviews that said it was rated the best and safest of 2020-2021. I really preferred beige since that was the color of the previous one, but I chose red, even though the picture looked a bit bright for our room. I was impressed that when it's on the bed, the color appears a darker, deeper red and not as bright as the photo. This is good, since I didn't want the blanket to glow in the room. :D As I was plugging it in and putting it on the bed, I could not see, much less even feel the wires inside the blanket. I also noticed when sleeping that the wires are completely undetectable. It's a thick 100% polyester, colorfast, and breathable fabric. I would not have known I was sleeping under an electric blanket, except for the fact that it warms up nicely within a minute or so if you put it on high. I have a bunch of cats in my house (not voluntarily, I might add LOL!) and they all appreciate the warmth. I usually use it on the lowest setting in Winter to just barely add some warmth and it's perfect for this purpose. For those who can't sleep with any lights in their room at night, the electric controllers only have a tiny 1.5cm x 1 cm window showing the controller's heat level (LO, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, HI). The display glows light red. It's barely perceptible and my alarm clock is much brighter. If you really wanted to, it could be easily covered with a sticky note to dim or eliminate the glow. Overall, I'm very pleased with this blanket and so are the cats!

Don't buy this!

The blanket itself is beautiful (I got the red color), and very soft. Going on some advice from another reviewer, I ordered a King size for my Queen-sized bed, and I'm so glad I did. My mattress is 15 inches thick, and there's plenty of hangover on either side of the bed (about 18-20 inches on either side). A queen-sized blanket definitely would have been too small. I was sooo disappointed when I let it warm up for the first time (on High) and discovered that the middle section doesn't warm up AT ALL. There must be a section of dead wiring there. I don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back, and I really just use it to warm up the bed...just before I get in, I turn it off or put it on the very lowest setting. At least the feet and shoulder sections work for now. Considering the price I paid for it, I'll keep an eye on it and will only send it back if another section stops working over the next couple of months. ------------------- My initial review (above) gave it 3 stars, an average rating. Now, just a few days later and only a week and a half after having the blanket, the top section doesn't heat up either. Two nights ago, I woke up in the middle of night to find that the the left side top of the blanket didn't have any heat at all, however, the right side top of the blanket was TOO hot to the touch (even though I had it on a low setting). I'm so sad to have to send this back, because I had high hopes for the $155 blanket, and also because I HATE SHIPPING things. What a pain in the @ss. First disappointing purchase from Amazon.com in many, many years. So sad.
