As a new kombucha brewer, I was nervous about purchasing this due to some of the reviews that mentioned leakage. However this was the best-priced glass beverage dispenser I could find, and I didn't want to spend $40+ on something that served such a utilitarian purpose. (I will say that I'm disappointed Amazon raised the price on this by about $3-4 after I purchased it). This dispenser has proved to be excellent for the continuous brewing method. The only leaks occur when the dispenser tab is not in the correct position; if you pay attention to making sure it's actually closed, you won't have any problems. If you are using it at a party, I could see how some distracted guests could leave the tab on the wrong setting and create a spill. I have seen some people mention replacing the dispenser unit with another one; I don't plan to do so unless the one that came with this breaks -- it's working just fine.

Great….until it shattered on it's own! :(

Well, I LOVED this dispenser when I first got it- it's everything I wanted… then I used it on Thanksgiving and after the party I was hand washing it and I noticed the base felt like it was thinner in one spot like a bump in the base almost- but shrugged it off and set it carefully on my drying rack to drip dry… and about an hour later while I was across the room with my husband it made the LOUDEST noise as it completely shattered sitting in the rack- like ghost kind of creepy- completely combusted from the inside out!!! It scared us both so much and we cleaned it up and set the big pieces in a pile on the counter while we cleaned the floor and 20mn later it did it AGAIN and the bigger pieces shattered all over the floor into a million pieces. It completely broke my heart. I only got to use this once and now it's in the trash can in a million pieces. I must have gotten a defective one?
