An Excellent Machine. Would by again and again.

I received this espresso maker as a gift from my wife for our anniversary and after having it for a while it would be tough to go without one. I used a pump espresso maker for years, literally more for more than 10 years easily. I have made my own espresso every day for a long time so I'm not a beginner. For a while I went to a vietnamese drip maker because I like my coffee strong and consistent and even with the pump or drip I had been using it just didn't really cut it. I had looked at this for a long time and read a lot of the reviews but just never really thought the quality of the drink could be this exceptionally good for the price of the machine and the per cup price. There is a competing machine most of you know about but the per cup cost of the CBTL is quite a bit lower and the quality of the coffee is comparable, excellent from both machines. When I say excellent you really won't believe it until you try it. My Brother has the other one so I have now tried both. The machine itself seems is built very solidly. The water tank comes off easily for filling and the front unit (whatever you call it) is an integrated cup tray and basket for the used capsules, it slides out in 1 easy pull. Even the chrome cup tray is heavy and well made. The chrome actuator handle on top feels very solid also, it seems to be solid metal with a good chrome job. Set up could not be easier. Plug it in, fill with water, prime the system and you are ready to go. When you need a cup of Joe you basically turn the machine on and drop in a pod. When the selector lights stop blinking the element is up to temp and ready to go. choose espresso, long espresso or coffee. Obviously there is tea and hot coco but I have not tried them. Another good point when considering what to buy is the per cup cost and these pods are now available at Bed Bath and Beyond which for a lot of people is very convenient. You will really love this machine.

Ehhh so so. Kind of over hyped.

For a long time I've been a coffee snob. I use a french press or go to Starbucks (I know, not that elite). Still, i scoffed at the idea of these instant single serving coffee makers. Still, I never heard anyone talk ill of them, and only sing their praise. Since I a moving to a house that's not so convienient to a Starbucks, and lets face it, making french press coffee is long and a pain in the ass sometimes, I thought I'd give this a shot. As far as the device goes, I love how it looks. Modern, shiny, compact. So 5 stars on looks. Now the few nit picky things, some other reviews have mentioned as well: It is kind of noisey. I remember in one of the big brand coffee shops having a demo done for me a year ago of their machine (honestly can't remember which one it was, think Starbucks), and it wasn't noisy like this. Granted its not for long, but it makes some noise. 2nd last gripe which is a bigger deal is people aren't lying when they say it only takes a small cup at best. I typically use the big oversized mugs you tend to find more of now, you know the Starbucks ones with a city name on them. No way they are fitting on this. So I tried my 1996 Luxor Las Vegas mug, which is more of your traditional sized coffee mug. Nope, that doesn't fit either. That one kind of surprised me. I should say it fits, but you have to tip it at an angle to get it in and the spout. Seeing as I don't have any low-profile coffee mugs, this will do for now. I'll get one eventually, but really this will just be so I can make coffee, then pour it into my big oversized mug. Lastly, the amount of coffee it makes seems lacking. I believe this is reprogrammable, could be wrong. Honestly I only quickly flipped the directions, made a few cups and experimented and wrote this review. As a default though, the largest cup setting is only about 3/4 of the normal sized coffee mug. The middle setting is less than half. I tried making 2 cups using the same pod, that's not really an alternative as it is a single serving maker, and the 2nd cup was watered down and useless. In the end, it's not the replacement I was hoping for. Yes I'll keep it, and for visitors it'll be great. I'll use it occasionally when I'm too lazy to make the extra long drive to Starbucks or make french press, but I don't see using it on a daily basis. Just isn't that exciting or great of a cup of coffee.
