Good and strong. It's even more substantial than it needs to be. I know the smaller arch on the side is there for one-handed tear-off and to control the roll, but I didn't find it to be particularly useful. It actually is useful to hold a half-height paper towel roll for those smaller jobs. The problem is that no one makes a half-height paper towel roll and it's surprisingly difficult to cut a regular roll in half. It would be great for a roll of toilet paper next to your paper towel roll, if you're the sort of person to do something like that.
