LOVE THIS COOKIE CUTTER!!!
By Karen B on Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2013
This is a really cute cookie cutter!! One side is used for cutting the gingerbread man shape and the opposite side has the stamped impression. The skeleton design is raised on the cookie cutter, making it super easy to get a good impression!! I had no problems with my cookie dough sticking to the design and it was not difficult to line up the design to the cut out shape. The plastic is thick, and has a good weight;to it. I'm sure this cookie cutter will last a very long time, allowing me to pass it on to my children in about 20 years!! I use this cookie cutter all year and not just for Halloween!! I like to decorate the cookie with royal icing and put a heart on his chest. I also like to tint my cookie dough different colors(i.e. red & green at Christmas time) and use a paint brush to paint thinned white royal icing on the bones. The cookie turns out really cute and always evokes a smile!!! VERY CUTE!! GREAT QUALITY!!! EASY TO USE!!! DISHWASER SAFE!!! GREAT PRICE!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Totally Disappointed!!

It looks like I am in the minority. I purchased the skeleton cookie cutters. I had the worst trouble with them!! I did everything to try to make just a few perfect cookies. I sprayed the cutters. The dough stuck. I tweaked the dough. Nope still stuck. I dunked the cutter in flour. The dough stuck. It's such a cute idea!! What cookies I was able to get into the ovens. They got distorted. Perhaps I should have done a practice run before adding my kids to the mess.

I had a lot of fun making these, but I do have some tips. The instructions that come in the box are pretty good. I did not roll out the dough before chilling, but that probably would have made things easier. I separated the dough into 2 batches after chilling, then rolled it out between parchment paper. I then peeled off the parchment, floured one side of the dough, flipped it, and floured the other side. I used the gingerbread cookie recipe that came with the cutter, I found it to be very tasty and firm enough after being baked. It made about 12 cookies. I baked for the minimum time of 12 minutes and that was perfect. I baked the cookies on a cookie sheet with parchment paper and there was no sticking. I did make a thicker cookie, about 1/4 inch as they recommend. As others recommended, I poked a couple holes in the cutter before cutting out the gingerbread men. Without holes, it's hard to get your dough out from the cutter since it creates a vacuum. I just used the tip of a sharp knife and twisted it to create a couple holes. Worked fine after that. Do not stamp the skeleton shape before baking, do it as soon as you take them out of the oven and they are still warm. You have to press pretty hard, but you will get a good impression. Let the cookies cool completely before icing them. The icing was the hardest part for me. I used the Williams Sonoma Royal Icing Recipe (available online), definitely add the bit of vanilla extract, it gives it a good flavor. I had to thin the icing with a little water to get it to the consistency I wanted. As far as icing the cookies, it took a few failed attempts to get it right. Finally I got my technique down and then it went quick. I piped icing in the indentations, then used a toothpick to get it right up to the edges. I couldn't pipe the icing around the very small details without covering them (nose and eyes especially), but using the toothpick to do the fine detailing worked well. I don't think the indentations are deep enough that you could make a very thin icing and just pour it in, so this was the best method I found. As you can see, mine turned out looking pretty close to the picture on the box.
Cute for Halloween

I purchased this cookie cutter to make cookies for a kindergarten class for Halloween, but I decided to do a practice run yesterday. I'm so glad that I did because I learned a few things about using this cookie cutter. There are recipes included, and I used the one for gingerbread cookies. The resulting cookie was flavorful and tender, and retained it's shape after baking. I followed the directions, rolling a ball of dough between 2 sheets of parchment and freezing for half an hour before cutting. The dough was incredibly sticky and would have been impossible to roll out and cut without freezing first. Before cutting the frozen dough, generously flour both sides of the dough, and generously flour your cutter. Then cut out the gingerbread man shapes. Don't bother imprinting the skeleton shape prior to baking, because the dough puffs up a little bit, and you lose the depth of the bone shapes. Instead, bake as directed, and immediately stamp the bone shapes in when you take your cookies out of the oven, while the dough is still soft and warm. This method will give you nice, deep bone shapes to fill with royal icing. I enjoyed using this cookie cutter. When used correctly, they produce an impressive cookie.

Simply designed, cut the cookie out with one side, stamp the design into it with the other side. So if you want regular, boring, gingerbread men, you can still use this. It comes with two cookie recipes too. The stamp made it through 3 dozen cookies this weekend, and still looks brand new. It does take a couple-three of cookies worth of practice to get a good stamp. (Tip: To make a clear impression, be sure to use a cookie dough that doesn't puff up alot, and firmly press all around the well floured stamp.) But it makes very cool cookies.
Gingerdead Men are super fun!

I purchased the Gingerdead Men cutter along with the Cursed Cookies cutter. Both are so cute and hilarious. These make giant 6-inch cookies, and you have to make a double batch, roll the dough a little thicker and bake longer or else they will break. I find this one a wee bit easier to deal with shape-wise; I have less difficulty transferring to the cookie sheet and the cutout has less weak spots. I'm still practicing with this and my biggest issue is when stamping, the head doesn't imprint so much. Some kind of vacuum issue? I had to get the hang of the eyes with Cursed Cookies. Best to do the head first and stamp hard; it's ok to smush the cookie dough, it'll bake up anyway. I used royal icing for the first time when I made Halloween gingerbread, and Gingerdead Men look amazing decorated. As long as the design is stamped deep, the icing is super easy to fill in. Great buy and a fun baking activity to do with kids.

Absolutely adorable cookie cutter. I read a lot of reviews that were upset that after cutting the cookie the stamper made the cookie deformed. Try stamping the dough first and then place the cutter over the stamp. Your stamp will be perfect. With a little practice you will cut them perfect every time. If your cutting is still off, try making tiny marks with a fork or knife near the stamped toes, hands and head, this will help guide your cutter more accurately. I did the fill and wipe method for filling the stamp with royal icing. The icing sometimes left a film on the top of the cookie but nothing horrible. I wish I had pictures but they were gobbled up by goblins before I was able to get one taken. Cutter is 5 3/8 tall, 4 1/4 wide at its widest point (the arms). The stamp is about 1/16 deep. Made of plastic that has held up fine in the dishwasher.

I received this cookie cutter/stamper yesterday and could hardly wait to get my cookie dough chilled to use it. I was somewhat reluctant to purchase it after reading some of the negative reviews...HOWEVER, the cookies turned out nicely with a clear pattern. Hints: #1 roll cookie dough thin less than 1/4 inch #2 lightly press outline of cutter on dough #3 push your stamp in from top to bottom and from side to side firmly but gently #4 turn over to cutter side and cut out the cookie. Important: Make sure to roll between 2 pieces of parchment paper- lightly flour your cookie cutter/stamp- choose an appropriate sugar cookie recipe that doesn't have baking soda (perhaps shortbread) It's not that difficult, I had fun, I would order this product again. I am thrilled with the result and have done nothing but make cookies with the stamper from last night and early this morning. I also bought the Cursed Cookies Voodoo doll.
Great, with adjustments!

I got this for my husband's Christmas stocking. He loves sugar cookies without frosting but I hate that they are so plain looking. This was perfect for him! He thought it was hilarious! I had read lot of the reviews on here and before I used it I gently made three little holes in the cutter in spots that would not affect the imprint. I just used the small tip of a sharp knife and spun it around until it popped through the other side. I made sure to brush off all of the discarded plastic and then ran it through the dishwasher. I had no problem at all getting the dough out of the cutter. I pressed it in. Wiggles a little to make sure it was all the way through and then lifted. Not one cookie got stuck in the cutter so I am very happy with it. I also waited until after the cookies came out of the oven to use the imprint side. It worked well on the body but I had a hard time getting the head and face of the skeleton to give me a good imprint (He ate the cookies too fast for me to get a picture). I am very pleased with it and I think with time I will get better at using it.
Good Product, Probably Great for People Who Know What They Are Doing

I really am useless when it comes to decorating anything (explains my glowing review of the gingerbread house mold) so I am certain the problem is ME! I made shortbread dough, rolled it out and refrigerated it. Then I used the cutter portion to cut out the man shape, So far so good. I had some difficulty transferring the cookies to the baking sheet (an arm here, a leg there, fell off) but if I used a spatula to transfer them I suspect I would not have had the problem. I waited about 10 minutes for the dough to soften before stamping the skeleton shape, as per suggestion on the box. When I did this the design came out but some of the dough stuck to the form (yest, I floured the press before and after each use). If the dough didn't stick, it was because it was too hard and the design didn't come out. As I said, I am hopeless when it comes to decorating and crafts so I take responsibility. Also, I had better luck with these than I have had with other items designed to make it easy for me to decorate cookies. I just can't give 5 stars when I wasn't a successful user.
