Great for a Variety of Uses
By Boston Tee on Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2017
Really like this - it fits very snugly on the steering wheel and stows away easily when not in use. I keep it in the seat compartment directly behind the driver's seat, but it would also fit wedged in between the console and passenger front seat, or under the seat as well. I haven't used it for a laptop or tablet yet but it's sturdy enough to hold one easily on the flat surface. Heck - you can use it as a writing surface in a pinch, too. For the price (especially), this is very handy and good to have in the car, especially if you're on the go a lot... or eat more meals in the car like I do.

Hollow plastic tray, not solid - great for limited purposes...
By Celtzer on Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2015
This is a hollow plastic tray. It fit my steering wheel just fine. Good for: - Setting your food down while you catch a bite to eat in the car - Holding up an iphone or ipad for viewing a video in the car, or maybe doing a conference call Not good for: - Bearing much weight at all. For example, I have a keyboard attached to my ipad and when I type on this tray, it bounces a good deal. Workable, but not great. - Hand writing notes. Again, this tray is hollow, which means it is bouncy and gives a good amount when pushing down with any weight at all, so trying to write on this does not work. If you understand what you are getting and what you can really do with it - and that works for you, then go for it.

I have a home-made plywood writing table over the center consul of my GMC Sierra pickup. But some things need to be done right in front of me (NOT while driving), like reading a magazine or using my laptop, and this "steering wheel tray" work very well. I especially like the slot where you can literally snap in a pen, so that it is always right there where I need it. The only warning I give you is that it only works when my steering wheel is centered. I think this is just the nature of steering wheel designs, and not a fault of the tray.
No more Texting Tickets

It is easier driving on the freeway than around town, but after a few tickets for texting on my cellphone, now I can just drive around with my laptop open and work and drive at the same time. If I have a travel mug, I don't spill on corners. I'd give it 5 stars but it does not fit every steering wheel. It fits fine in my Prius, but my Honda Odyssey is not the best fit.

Best on the road idea Yet!!

If you are on the go, then this product is for you. I ordered this for our car and it has been invaluable ever since. The table is lightweight, yet very sturdy. My husband LOVES not having to balance a meal upon his legs. It even has a little spot made for a drink cup. I have used it while waiting at a doctor office to do my crossword puzzles on. It slips right on the wheel and is very stable. When not in use, just slip it behind or under the seat. I just wish there was a steering wheel on the passenger side of the car so that we could use two at mealtime on the road!!!! Both sides have a "well" in it - I like this feature, if you spill a bit it does not go on your lap or car seat. The other side also has a narrow groove with a built in "clip" that holds a pen quite nicely. We are so pleased with this product that my mother, sister, adult nieces and nephews will all be getting one this Christmas. Very well made and nice price too!!
Don't get this one

Oh my goodness. I spent so much time online looking for one of these and comparing them and reading reviews! So I finally decided, mainly because of the great reviews, on this one. I was so disappointed I can't tell you. Cheap, hollow, thin, plastic. and way too short from the steering wheel to the person. It was wide enough though. If you're looking for something to EAT on it's fine. But a 5 year old wouldn't have enough room to draw a picture much less put a lap top on. I purchased it for my husband because he is an insurance adjuster and he constantly writes down info onto forms. Plus he just got a small lap top to do schoolwork on. He's 6'3 and 195 lbs and there's no way it would work for him. Sheesh.
Does not fit all makes and models of steering wheels.

Ordered these based on the photo of it looking like they would fit almost any car's steering wheel, but tried them on both our 2002 Buick and 2013 Highlander, and they would not lay flat enough to use as advertised. Even adjusted the tilt of the steering wheels and still no go, the tray always sat at to severe an angle to be useful, and did not feel stable on the wheel at any angle. Good Idea. . . needs more work to make it "universal" and they should take the photo down to lessen the return rate back to Amazon. This is one of those items that should really pre-qualify what steering wheels they fit or don't. I sure hoped it would have worked.
very pleased

I am very content with this product. I purchased it because I spend a lot of time in my car, driving around, and going to numerous appointments. I like to keep track of activities, appointments, grocery lists, etc., in a notebook. I had often found myself bending and twisting in awkward direction trying to find a flat surface in my car to write in my notebook on. This product makes it simple. It also comes in handy when you go through a drive thru or need to eat a meal in your car between classes or a short lunch break. It is VERY easy to put up and take down, no tools or damage to your car! The only thing I would change about this product is the sturdiness. It DOES stay intact and hasn't fallen or slipped, but it would make me less nervous if there was a more secure way to mount to the steering wheel. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT IF YOU SPEND AS MUCH TIME IN YOUR CAR AS I DO!!!
It makes using my laptop in my car much more comfortable.

I need to work on a laptop in my car a lot, sometimes for several hours a day. I have a desk that sits on the passenger seat with a slide-out. The side-out only reaches to a few inches past the center console causing me to sit sideways to be able to type. After long periods of sitting twisted to the right I develop back pains. I saw this on Amazon and decided to give it a try. Unboxing it I initially thought there was a mistake, it looks smaller that I expected. However, once I installed it on the steering wheel I feel that it's the perfect size. If it were any deeper I would have to move my seat back every time I use it. It fits the steering wheel well on my 2012 Ford Escape as long as it's turned slightly to the right or left - I assume that's a safety feature to prevent you from using it while driving. The reason for -1 star is that I wonder how it will hold up over time. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and it seems that it's starting to sag. It's a hollow, molded plastic and I fear that it's starting to bend. If it were made of solid plastic or wood it might feel more sturdy, but I'm sure that would drive the price up.
Must-have accessory if you do stuff in your car.

I use this in my Honda Civic all the time. It is practically indestructible. It fits my Surface Pro X or The Samsung Tab S6 with the keyboards so I can type. It also makes it possible to eat a salad in the car, so has helped my waist line since I'm not ordering burgers all the time at fast food joints. The only issue I could foresee for people who don't own this yet is if your steering wheel doesn't have the right shape for it. I actually have to turn my steering wheel ever so slightly in order for it to sit flat properly. It is fine if you know to do that before you shut off the car. Worst case you send it back, right? My kids will also use it on occasion in their lap. It isn't huge but helps a 4 year old not send chicken nuggets flying everywhere while we're in motion. I definitely recommend this tray!
