Sunbeam Piemaker

This works well to make cute little perfect pies. It is non-stick and EASY to clean. All I've had to do is wipe it down with a damp paper towel. It has 2 lights - it's a lot like a waffle iron in that respect, one is to show the power is on, and the other turns on when the pie maker is ready to use. It only took me about 4 pies to figure out how it worked best for me. At first I was not filling them full enough; to make them really pretty fillings need to come over the top of the bottom part in a dome shape before the top crust is applied. They make pies about the size of a Banquet Chicken pot pie. You can use phyllo dough, pastry, or pizza dough, and I've seen some recipes with cute breakfast pies made using hash brown potatoes. They make a total of 4 pies at a time, and they are fun to use. Making the little pies reminded me of how much fun a new kitchen toy could be. There's a recipe booklet with it that has a few basic pastry recipes, and a few pies, but not a lot. However, there are recipe books and entire websites devoted to making these pies, so there's tons of recipes online. The oven itself works very well, and the little pies are done in about 7-9 minutes depending on what sort of dough you use. It does come with a cutting tool for the pastry, and a press to press the bottoms well. After several batches, I quit using those as I had developed 'an eye' for it, which was a great relief because I'd worried about losing those when it first came in. My family really enjoyed the pies. These would be amazing for party, a bake sale or kid's event. They look impressive. Downside: It does take up some counter space, and I don't think I'll use it long enough to devote a permanent position to it, but I keep a Rubbermaid tote full of stuff like this. It's definitely a keeper.
