Perfect for classroom unit blocks
By The Smiths on Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2014
I searched long and hard for the right storage solution to my large set of classroom blocks -- one that would be long-lasting, affordable for my shoestring budget, aesthetically pleasing, and sufficiently large to hold all 300+ unit blocks. IKEA's cube storage was recommended as a cheap choice, but being veneer over particleboard, seemed too flimsy. (I've seen, in other classroom settings, how these cubes sag, tilt, and crumble away over time.) Other companies specializing in furnishings for preschool classroom seemed to offer only vertically-oriented or double-sided storage for a block set of this size. But I wanted low storage suitable for young children, low enough to display a blocks, props, or books; low enough for children to use the top of the shelf as a play surface. But this particular storage cart by ECR4Kids seemed to be too perfect to be true (it helped that the photo let me imagine how it would work for blocks)! So I'm so happy to report that it has exceeded my (admittedly high) expectations. I'm loving the generous but child-scaled size, the easy-to-follow instructions and assembly, the sturdy optional casters, the simple but conscientious design (no kooky colors), the dividers, the sanded and rounded-off edges. But especially I am loving the solid birch wood. Yes, SOLID BIRCH WOOD. Even the backing is thin plywood! The backing!! Unheard of! In a world where we are increasingly accustomed to everything being melanine, particleboard, fiberboard, plastic, or whatever, it is astounding to see what a difference a good, solid hardwood can make. This is truly built for rough child's play, built to last. I have no doubt that I will be passing this down to my kids' kids, or more likely our local public schools, still in good condition. Thanks, ECR4Kids! I will look for your products the next time I'm in the market for classroom furnishings.

Looks great but stinks

Wish they had off-gassed this at the factory not in our living room...hope we didn't kill too many brain cells setting it up in our enclosed room...was very strong chemical smell. It's in our basement now to off-gas...not bad unless you put your nose near it then whew, strong smell.
