Fantastic Task Lighting
By Ron Watts on Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2014
My wife does a lot of knitting. She is really good at it, but she has trouble counting stitches and dropping stitches once in a while as she has trouble seeing with the lamps we have in the house. But no more! This DAYLIGHT task light is simply awesome. As they said, it can be focused to a 3 inch spotlight, or spread to a two or three foot wide area light, just by slipping the lens down or up on the adjustment cylinder. The adjustment is one of those things that surprised me: It isn't threaded, or pneumatic, or anything fancy. The focusing lens housing simply slips up and down on the gooseneck cylinder because it is slightly bigger. I pointed it straight down to see if it would slip under the weight, but it stays exactly where I left it. As far as the base is concerned, it is quite heavy and sits like a squatting Bhudda statue on our medium pile rug. To kick this thing around you would have to break a toe, and I don't understand folks who said it wasn't heavy enough.Comments on other reviewers' complaints:WEIGHT OF THE BASE: Like I said, the base is quite heavy and gives excellent stability, even on pile carpetSPREAD OF LIGHT FOR READING: ? Three feet isn't enough? It is for me. Even a newspaper gets a good coverage, unless you are within less than two feet of the light itself.POLE SEGMENT THREADING: Mine fit perfectly from top to bottom. I started at the bottom, pulling the wire out as I screwed in each segment. Went together easily and fit perfectly.OVERALL STABILITY: Mine is very stable and the threaded sections appear to stay together just fine. Of course, I don't make a habit of kicking or banging the lamp a lot, any more than I would a table lamp, but my unit is very tight and secure.POWER SWITCHES/CONNECTIONS: There is a metal toggle switch on the back of that lump you see in the photo, where the gooseneck attaches to the pole, and there is an inline power connector about two feet from the base of the lamp. The power connector is fairly solid but you must remember that it can become disconnected if you pull at it. The toggle switch is mounted in metal and is solid. I have no problems with the unit we received.So. I must conclude that the manufacturer listened to his customers and corrected all the problems, or a few folk got units that missed getting a quality control inspection. Either way, by purchasing this via Amazon, it is guaranteed to work properly and be of good quality or Amazon will send you another one or refund your purchase price. That's good enough for me.I love this lamp and intend to buy another one. Thumbs up!

Headlamp on a stick.
By Over 50 and Lovin' It on Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2021
It reminds me of a headlamp. In fact, using a headlamp would be better for your eyes and accomplish the very same job this lamp is intended to do; it is not ambient lighting nor will it light up a room, it is very specific task lighting. This item has an exposed bulb so if it is in front or to the side of you, it is annoying. And if it behind you and beaming over your shoulder to your work, it will cast shadows from your body blocking parts of the beam (my hands kept casting shadows when I was trying to work, yet that is the best place for it so your eyes don't get tired from the glare of the exposed bulb. Think of a bare light bulb with no shade. That is what this is. You can narrow the beam and widen the beam, and when it is narrow beam, the light is more concentrated in a smaller area. Had they put a small shade around the bulb it would still have done the job and it would have protected the eyes. Also I found it odd that the light switch, though in a very convenient location, worked just the opposite of the industry standard light switches - the one on the lamp is off when the switch points up, and it is on when the switch points down.
