Over cooked meats
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2020
Never wonder if meats are cooked to your liking, can't do without it. Could be a little easier to read make numbers a little larger but does the job, does identify types of meats. The price is right.

Easy, No Nonsense Accurate Thermometer At A Fair Price. But Way Too SLOW!
By John Thomas on Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2015
This is a very simple no nonsense thermometer that I really liked at first. Although I believe its really made for BBQs and outdoor cooking, it can be used on roasts and other oven meals as long as you remove them first and then insert it. It is not designed to stay in the oven with the meal. As for its use on BBQ meat, its as simple as it gets. You just stick it in your steak, pork, whatever and it reads the temp. The length of it is perfect without it being over long and hard to store, and it comes with a plastic sleeve to protect it and you from its point when not in use. The face on it is very clear and easy to read, although a little on the small side I also own a digital thermometer as well and this has one advantage over them. In addition to the digital one needing batteries, they also have to be set each time to what you are taking a measurement on. For example if you are measuring a piece of chicken you have to first set the digital one to chicken, then insert it. (Most of them have that extra step built in unfortunately). This one takes no batteries and there is nothing to select. Just stick it in and read it. I found this to be accurate on both chicken and pork, and a burger that I checked along the way as it was cooking proved the rare, medium, etc, settings to be very accurate as well. Unfortunately the one thing I don't like about this at all, (and its a biggie) is how SLOW it is. I mean it can easily take a minute or more to slowly edge its way to the top temperature. And, I also noticed that it can sometimes reach the high temp and then go back down a little, even with it remaining unmoved in the same place, which means it can even take even more time for it to register...I have used it about a half dozen times now and I have just grown too impatient with it. My digital thermometer registers its top temp in just around 10 seconds. Far superior to this and standing there with it in the meat as it takes its sweet old time meandering up to its peak temperature. Not for me unfortunately, and only recommend for those that like a simple no adjustments to me made thermomter, and that possess a whole lot of patience...
