Perfect for drinking glasses ....
By C. Green on Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2013
If you're looking specifically for a canning jar type drinking glass, then look no further as these are perfect ... About the only other option currently on the market is a clear replica with a very small handle attached, a hen molded into one side, and the words 'county fair' or something like that .... These are much, much nicer ... These are perfect molds as they do not have uneven bottoms and will not wobble when set down .... The color is consistant throughout and of a much nicer shade than the original washed out vintage blue .... This color is a darker shade aqua, but not so dark that you can't see the contents of the jar .... The Ball company logo is a perfect raised mold on one side, with raised measurement values on two opposite sides .... These raised markings provide a good 'grip' when used as a drinking glass .... They have a nice smooth lip, wide mouth, and perfect threading for a standard mason jar lid ..... Kind of overkill for actual canning use, but you will have the nicest looking pantry on the block if you go that route ... And it goes without saying that these will make a much nicer package for gift giving than the clear off-the-shelf jars ... These are already packaged to resist handling breakage by Ball ..... But Amazon did a pretty good job of packaging for shipping as well, but I didn't get the multiple layers of bubble wrap as others have mentioned .... Still nothing was broken .... Again; looking for a cheap, sturdy, break-resistant, pet tolerant drinking glass? .... Something that will not easily get knocked over while sitting unattended on the end table? ..... Then this is what you want .... You will not be disappointed ..... Get them before they are discontinued and require you to wait for the next 100 year anniversary .....

Gorgeous to look at BUT DYED MY PICKLED GARLIC BLUE IN FIVE DAYS
By Tara on Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2015
*************EDIT: I was informed by another reviewer that raw garlic that isn't mature enough will react with ACV and turn blue! The garlic when first removed from the jar was the exact shade of blue as the jars, hence my alarm. The photo I have attached is after it had been sitting out a day so it is less brilliant. Don't let my previous review dissuade you from purchasing these jars. I apologize for my ignorance! ******************************************************** I bought these jars expecting Ball jar quality and they arrived appearing to meet these standards, until I used one for something other than a vase. I thoroughly washed the jar before using. I placed four heads of peeled organic garlic and filled the jar with unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. I set the jar in a sunny window, as suggested by Rosemary Gladstar in her book Medicinal Herbs : A Beginners Guide. After a few days I noted some of the garlic looked blotchy and blue. I thought it was only because the jar was blue and this was part of the pickling process, as this was my first time I wasn't sure. After five days had passed I decided to take a peek and sure enough I pulled out a few cloves and they were completely blue. Cutting one open revealed they were saturated with blue dye. The entire batch was completely ruined as more than half of the cloves were as blue as Easter eggs. This is not only disappointing but absolutely disgusting. These jars are made for canning and preserving it makes no sense to me why something as simple as vinegar would pull dye out of glass. And if there are properties of vinegar that have a tendency to do this because its so acidic then shame on a company that makes canning/pickling jars for not knowing this. This information needs to be made known to those who are purchasing this product for something other than decorative purposes and frankly Im afraid to put any kind of food in them at this point, rendering my purchase a complete waste of money. And I'm pretty disturbed a company is selling glass that has enough dye in it for it to seep out into food. I think I will stick with the clear jars from here on out but I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention if they are buying these jars for something else besides decoration purposes.
