Totally Bamboo Tree of Life Salt Box

There are a couple of issues with this product which compounded gives a bad result. First, the screw which attaches the lid to the base. It is screwed into the end-grain of the bamboo that the base is made of. This is a poor manufacturing decision because the end-grain of bamboo is extremely weak along its axis and prone to splitting. Second, the product is shipped with no protection at all. No box or even basic bubble wrap beyond the bag itself, which is pretty thin. I ordered one of these and it came as shown in the picture. The screw had split the sidewall and came loose. I returned it and got a refund due to the damage. The second one came and it was even worse - the entire sidewall of the base had split at point where the screw is. At that point I gave up since it is not that expensive and not worth my time to keep getting sent damaged goods over and over again. I like the concept of this box but the design decisions and lack of padding mean it is pretty likely to arrive damaged and unusable for its intended purpose.
