Really like this cane
By Raph Pendragon on Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2015
OK-- I was somewhat apprehensive about buying this product after reading its reviews, but for the price (under $12.00) I figured "what the heck". I have 'Prime', so in two day it was delivered in pristine condition. I am pleasantly surprised with my new 'Trusty Cane'. I had no problems putting it together, and it definitely works as advertised. Now, to address some of the review complaints of other customers and provide some info. about the cane. One reviewer complained about the cane falling apart. The only ways that this could happen is either the elastic band broke or was not attached properly during assembly. Other than that, the cane holds together firmly and is quite stable. Next problem relates to the cane falling over when left to stand alone. Granted that it will topple on carpet and other soft surfaces, it does just fine on flat hard floors such as you would find in most stores. I really didn't purchase this product for its stand alone qualities. Actually I wanted a cane with a large enough footprint so that it wouldn't dig in deeply on soft outdoor surfaces such as wet lawns or snow. Haven't used it on snow, but it works well on wet grass. It does require a bit of cleaning afterwards however (not a problem). The last major complaint relates to the lights on the handle and in particular the placement of the switch. I think it all comes down as to how you grip your cane. I have large hands, and yet have no problems inadvertently turning the lights on or off. I grip the cane a little behind the switch and do not rest any fingers on top where the switch is. I would say however that a little stronger spring in the switch would be of benefit, since it does turn off/on rather easily. Lastly, for your info., I would say that this is not a cane for really tall individuals. I am 6ft. 1in and I had to stretch out the adjustment to the next to last setting to be comfortable. This would indicate that a person of 6ft 2in would probably be the max. height for the 'Trusty Cane. All and all, I really like this cane, and am finding it very useful.

Could be better built.

I bought the cane for my elderly father who is always having his cane fall in the floor. I thought this would be great since it is hard enough for him to walk much less bend over and pick up a cane. It does stand up, but is not that stable once it has batteries it is rather top heavy. The screw that holds the battery cover on was very difficult to remove and get completely sunk back in its hole. The light on it is awesome. Good for unlocking doors and getting down dark hallways. Could be better, but he seems to like it.
