Seems like a great product so far
By Michael on Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2019
TLDR -> Only had it for one night but it seems to work. Pros: Very bright. Alarm noises are pleasant and not too jarring. Extremely easy to use interface. Did wake up without feeling exhausted. Cons: Felt a bit cheap (again, light electronics don't feel sturdy to me so it's strictly personal preference here). Setting brightness for night lamp use seems to affect alarm brightness. Only one night of testing so far. Full Review ------------- I tend to be up pretty late in, usually asleep between 12 - 1 in the morning. I have tried setting multiple alarms on my phone and smart watch to wake me up but it seems like I turn them off in my sleep. Most of the time I wake up with enough time to get ready for work but one recent evening I couldn't fall asleep until 3:30 in the morning and missed a morning meeting. Enter this alarm clock. When I first opened the package and pulled out the device it honestly felt a little cheap. The plastic didn't seem high enough quality and it felt very light (I tend to think lighter things feel less sturdy than heavier so take this with a grain of salt). I turned on the device and configured it and ran it through the demo mode. Much to my enjoyment, it was a very easy setup and the demonstration mode gave me a good idea of what to expect. Set it up on the bed stand, approximately 24 inches away from me and prepped for sleep. I turned down the brightness to use it as a room light while I was brushing my teeth and went to bed around 12:30 in the morning. Surprisingly, I woke up right as the alarm went off at 7 AM, just 6.5 hours later. The brightness was a bit unimpressive but that appears to be because the brightness the device was using when I had it on as a lamp appears to be the brightness the device maxes out at when using the alarm. Suffice it to say I will be turning up the brightness for the next night. At the end of the day, I did wake up feeling a bit more refreshed in my dark room (winter here now so the mornings are a bit dark when I wake up) but I can't say for sure if that's because this is a new device and I'm excited to test it or if this is because the device is actually good. More to come in the following weeks.

Its nice... very nice; but $90 nice? Not even close. Try $30-$40

I share a lot of the same complaints and praises most others have had. I'm mostly disappointed with the build and quality. Its just not worth $90 (even though I got a $10 off coupon). $90 is a lot of money to spend on an alarm clock, I don't care who you talk to. For that price I expected something more solid especially from industry veterans Philips. Cons: - Its too light. You cant touch a button without it sliding around on you. Its like having an empty cardboard box on the nightstand. - Plastic just feels cheap, the switches and buttons on the ‘kickstand’ have a quality feel that resembles a cheap kids toy bought from the .99-cent store. -My particular clock that I ended up with has serious speaker quality issues. When the birds start chirping there’s a heavy hiss from the speaker. I can’t tell if it’s the actual recording (i.e. the same on every model) or the speaker itself. Either way its going back for an exchange. No way I can wake up to… “hhhhhhhhhhhsssss- chirp- hssssssss- chirp chirp.. hsssssssss- chirp”. -Plenty of complaints already about the lack of battery backup. Agreed, for $90 you’d think Philips would design one in. It would help with the featherweight issue. But I knew this going in so no points off for that. My focus is on build and quality issues. -The snooze function is tricky. It’s not a capacitive touch thing (like the front buttons feel), and it’s not a press and hold thing, it’s more of a knock you have to give with your four fingers. Like what you’d give a cat who knows better than to jump on the counter but did it anyway. Takes me a few tries to get it to snooze and by then the clock has moved all over the place Pros: -This is my third night waking up to this alarm and I will admit, it’s a change for the better in terms of wake-up routine. Its dark out now when I wake up and this puts out a very pleasant light. Its filtered just enough to not hurt your eyes when you open them, but bright enough that it really lets you know there’s a light on and it’s time to get up. -I do like the buttons in the front. They have a capacitive feel to them. They dim to near-complete invisibility but as you move a finger towards the face of the clock they brighten up before contacting the panel. From there it’s a soft touch to make the button respond (albeit the clock still moves so you have to kinda hook your thumb around the side, then go in for the button press) -I’m okay with the alarm sound options (lack of). I knew this going in that there were not very many options. I’m disappointed with the speaker output however. Its total garbage, and really highlights the poor build/materials qualities. Overall: As a whole this is a great unit. I’m a big fan of waking up to light output and this clock does a very good job of that. However, in a world of you-get-what-you-pay-for consumer goods, the build quality is just not worth the price tag. This alone makes it a hard to recommend. In a $40-$50 price range I would overlook the cheap plasticky materals in an instant and rave on and on about this clock. But for $90 I wish I would’ve bought a whole smart bulb starter kit which would to what this wake-up light does but way better. It bothers me Philips is making so much money on these things. It probably costs them less than $4.00 per unit to build. EDIT: Amazon shipped me a second clock and the crackly sound of the bird noises is still present. So its likely not the speaker but in the recording of the audio. Its pretty terrible. Just cheap workmanship all around.
