Handheld Steam Birdie

I purchased this steamer maybe two years back but have only used it all of three times. On the 4th time of me using it, the steamer only spat out a small amount of steam under very little pressure and a few drops of water. I let the device sit still plugged in and steam faintly came out on its. Then I picked up the device and I pressed the handle again and suddenly water began to leak from somewhere near the bottom of the device. I can see two square cut outs on where water is leaking and they are very close to where the cord branches out of the device. I immediately unplugged the device from the wall but heard a pop sound in the device itself shortly thereafter. I have concerns this device is a hazard. I am going to contact the manufacturer in hopes of good response but at this time I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone.
