There are more expensive ones out there but the one does a great job and didn't cost a lot

I bought one about a year ago for BBQ and my Smoker. It has been used in other situations as well so I bought another. There are more expensive ones out there but the one does a great job and didn't cost a lot. I like that.

Basic thermometer with a really expensive magnet.

The Cuisinart grill thermometer is really not much different from any generic digital meat thermometer you'd see in any big box store, as far as the quality of the probe and accuracy. Cuisinart has added two "twists", which are the adjustable display, and a magnet. On a grill, being able to flip the display is really nice, but I noticed that the balance was a bit lopsided if you're not cooking something really thick. So on some things, you're going to end up holding the thermometer while temperature climbs. No, this isn't an instant-read, but it gets to +/- 5 degrees (F) in just over 10 seconds. The magnet is... I dunno. You're not going to want to stick it to a hot grill when you're cooking, and unless you want a rust spot on your grill, you're not going to stick it on your grill for outdoor storage. Most grill workspaces I've used and seen are plastic or resin, so I'm not really sure what the point is. I get it for sticking on your kitchen refrigerator, but grill? The real kicker for me is how expensive this is. As of this review, it literally costs twice as much as this digital thermometer from Weber, which has an adjustable display, and is better balanced. Admittedly, it doesn't have a magnet, and though it's sold as "instant", it also takes just over 10 seconds to settle on a temperature. Unless the magnet is worth 50% of the price, I'd choose the Weber.
