Quantitative Proof I Sleep Better on a Casper - Ruined my Sex Life
By Mike Long on Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2018
First I feel obligated to write this review because I saw that all of the top reviews on Amazon were all negative and I just can't understand how that is the case. I understand different people have different preferences, and maybe that is the case here, but I was surprised to see this. My wife and I have always loved memory foam mattresses to begin with. We love how they contour around your body and give you that "hug" feeling. Before a Casper we owned a memory foam mattress made by Serta that was sold at Sams Club. The queen size was approx. $400. We liked it, but it definitely got hot at times like the "typical" memory foam mattress. We moved and decided we wanted to upgrade to a King mattress and started shopping. We decided on a Casper based on many reviews I had read and also comparison done by sleepopolis of the various online mattresses like Tuft and Needle, Purple, and the likes. My top two choices were between Tuft and Needle and Casper. Tuft and Needle was cheaper but it also seemed like it was a cheaper mattress, it only had two different foam layers, the top layer and the base layer. The Casper had 5 different types of foam and looked like a higher quality product (photos on sleepopolis). Both had 100 night trials so I figured I'd start with one and try the other if I didn't like it. We bought Casper on a lightning deal on Amazon for $899 King size, which is a steal about 3 months ago! Once it was delivered we put it out on our platform bed base and let it rise, it did not seem to take very long, a day at most, for it to be full size. The cover is removable and very soft and comfortable. First thing I noticed is this memory foam mattress had a lot more bounce to it than my last mattress, but still had the contouring effect that we like. I hardly noticed a bad smell, and I have very good smell/taste senses. Any smell that was there was gone within a day or two. The mattress definitely keeps you cool and I have never felt hot on it once. I would give the mattress an overall soft feel but still with firm support from the base layers. It is extremely comfortable. Make sure not to use a waterproof mattress cover because this bed has breathable foam and when you cover it with a mattress cover like that it seemed to ruin the softness and breath-ability of the mattress as a whole because not matter how "breathable" a waterproof mattress protector is, it still cannot move air through it the way this mattress was designed to work. We stuck with just the cover that is on it with a fitted sheet. My wife has lupus and that means her joints and muscles can hurt a lot as if she had run a marathon from just daily life. My wife has told me that at night all that pain goes away and when she wakes up after sleeping on this mattress she feels rejuvenated and ready for another day. I am not exaggerating. I have noticed a difference in her frequency and severity of comments about pain, they have both lessened significantly. I also have lower back pain, but this mattress helps relieve it, not create it. I wake up with no pain in my back whatsoever when sleeping on this mattress and I sleep on side, stomach, and back. I feel that at all times I am supported and my spine is aligned. Now for the quantitative proof. I have a fitbit that tracks my sleep. It does this through heart rate monitoring. It tracks how much time you spend in each phase of sleep from awake, light, REM, and deep sleep. With my previous mattress I would get around 14% deep sleep and I would be awake about 18%. I have slept on this mattress for 3 months, and now my average deep sleep has increased to 18% (sometimes getting as high as 22%) and my awake has decreased to 14% (with lows in the 10%). This means I am spending less time consciously or unconsciously awake and more time in deep sleep on a Casper mattress. Most the time, if you are tossing and turning it is because there are pressure points on your body where you are laying and you are moving to a new position because that pressure was too much and began to be uncomfortable and so you move to alleviate it. There are nights I go to bed and basically don't move from the position I fell asleep in because that pressure is being relived by the mattress and you really do feel like you are just sleeping on a cloud. I know that sounds cliche but there is no better way to explain it. We joke about how this bed ruined our sex life because it is so comfortable and inviting that when you lay down on it, you instantly want to fall asleep, causing us to miss out on other activities. A few complaints. Because the mattress comes rolled and compressed in a box, when unfolding and allowing to come to full size, I did have to adjust the cover and the corners were a bit squished on one side (the inner side of the compressed rolled up mattress) almost to deformity, but they have since recovered, but this took weeks to occur. The mattress is breathable and the latexy foam on the top does transfer a bit of motion only when one person is laying down already, and another gets onto the bed, you get a very slight feel of the bed "adjusting" to both of you, almost like an air mattress, but a lot less aggressive. Once the person is on the bed though, normal movements at night like rolling over and stuff cannot be felt between companions. Overall we are very happy with our purchase and will be keeping it. We love this mattress. I am honestly confused with these negative reviews because we love it so much. Just try it for yourself, you have nothing to lose, they will come pick it up within 100 nights if you don't like it, and yes the warranty period does apply to Amazon purchases, my current purchase says it is still eligible for return until Oct 13 2018 and I received it July 5, exactly 100 days after it was delivered.

Initial Experiences, First Impressions...WAY TOO MUCH DRAMA, ONLY BUY (direct) FROM CASPER
By Heros_N_Zeros on Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2016
DAY ONE - Initial Experience (will update during trial period) MATTRESS PACKAGING: Cardboard box was filthy upon arrival - I notifed Amazon these boxes could use plastic straps to make it easier to move. At 80+ lbs and no straps, I'd imagine the boxes are easier to push around on the dock and truck floors than to lift without straps. The cardboard is torn at each of the eight corners (top, bottom). UPS left it on top of the snow at my gate and without a plastic bag beneath it - the snow melted and the box broke down. The UPS crew in this area are all really great folks and this was likely a simple oversight. The mattress is not rolled up; instead it's folded over in half lengthwise + then compressed in quarters (see pic). Then wrapped in plastic bag + an outer layer that serves to hold compression of mattress. Simple to open/remove packaging - carefully cut outer layer with supplied tool (letter opener). I first set it on the foundation then opened the packaging. MATTRESS ODOR: I'm sensitive to the Visco foam gas odors and despite being told by Casper there is no odor (we use water based glue(not petroleum based) and a more friendly foam) - there's room for problems. I smelled it as soon as I opened the plastic bag. To they're credit and point, it's nowhere near the gas odor from a standard memory foam mattress (perhaps 33% of "normal" thus far). Well, the initial mild smell quickly became horrific! So, it's 24 degrees outside and I've had to leave the bedroom window open, fireplace on, and door closed for the last 4 hours in order to offset the smell. MATTRESS COMFORT: I'm a side sleeper and broad shouldered man and I've learned foam and latex mattresses don't last 2 months before cratering/forming a cavity. Casper assured me that "likely" will not be the case. My first try with the casper mattress - I found it to be firm as stated by manuf. and reviews. It was nowhere near as firm as I expected due to reviews on casper.com. It was 3 hours after unfolding and was so cold in the room that the foam did not warm up beneath me and mold to my body shape and smell was obnoxious to me. Due to the odor I will not be able to sleep on it this evening, but I will tray again tomorrow. Hello couch.... DAY TWO: $950 Bed, that isn't supposed to gas, is still gassing - I contacted Casper who stated it is VERY rare and should not happen. That was followed by, but we know it does happen occasionally. When I asked why is it very rare - it was explained that each bed is a section cut from very long lengths. Their Quality Assurance process is supposed to ensure sections like my bed are cut off, cast aside, not sent out to consumers. OK thanks very much to the employee that missed this one and for resultant spewing of V.O.C's into my bedroom drywall, carpeting, furniture etc. A Casper representative advised, should I wish to work on a replacement purchased direct Casper, she will personally cut open the plastic bag and to determine if she is able smell off gassing. If not, that will get shipped. Unfortunately, due to the dispersing of a high volume of VOC's I will not be able or comfortable to sleep in that room for days. BOTTOM LINE: NOW THAT I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE THERE'S ISSUES, I'D ONLY BUY CASPER PRODUCTS FROM THE MANUFACTURER (if at all) I spoke with 5x very nice Amazon personnel including 2x supervisors - they wish they could help, but there is nothing they are set up to do about replacing with a known (checked/validated) mattress. It's a case of - product in, product out - they manage supply chain (provide vendor products to you for a fee) and there is zero willingness and/or avenues to work with the manufacturer to ensure customer satisfaction. I have moved this to the garage and spoke with Amazon who said to schedule a pick up by UPS. And if you were unfortunate to have listened to Amazon Customer Service, you too would have schedule a UPS pickup. And the way that ends up is the UPS driver laughs(with you, not at you), and advises that the mattress is not going in the truck. At which point you call back your friends at Amazon and ask what the heck is going on. After speaking with a domestic employee, I was finally told they have a department for "foam/conforming mattresses" and I was going to be transferred. I was transferred and the Amazon rep. scheduled a special carrier (in this case "Pilot") and they would contact me in a few business days.
