At 6 months, my son was not ready to use these cups, so I put them away. But by the 8th month, he was drinking from these like a champ! The design is not perfect, but it's the best I've found so far. The most important aspect is that he can hold this himself and drink, and when turned upside down, the cup does not spill. Even if he's not able to drink, he's happy enough to hold the cup and suck on it. The cup has to be relatively full in order to make drinking easy. The less filled up it is, the further back your child will have to tip the cup. For younger children, like my 10 month old, he hasn't learned this yet, so I have to recline him on my lap to drink. I don't like to fill it more than about an inch because my son doesn't drink all that much in one sitting and I don't want to waste the food or precious breast milk. Filling it up more makes it too heavy for him to hold comfortably. Aside from breast milk, we've given him water and chicken soup. He loves chicken soup and gets hangry when we don't feed him fast enough. With a spoon, it's tricky and most of the soup ends up on his shirt. With the cup, he can drink on his own and is quite content. Some dribbling does occur down his cheek as the rate of flow is faster than breast feeding but that's not too much of an issue with cleanup. Lastly, there are no instructions with the product, so I thought to include cleaning instructions here. The cup is 3 pieces. It's not that obvious. You might think the lid is one secured piece. It's not. The lip/rim (colored part) is a flexible silicone cover that snaps onto the lid/handle piece. To clean the cup, just dig your fingers into the lid to get under it and pull the top until it comes off. Don't worry about breaking it (it won't). Then you can use a toothbrush to brush out the underside. For $10 at the time of writing for 2 cups, I think this is a fantastic deal. The handles also are great for hooking onto a belt or other loop, when you need both hands free.
