Must Have for Serious Cooks
By Andrew on Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2025
My son is an amazing cook, and he really wanted this. I must say that it looks really cool when he cooks with it. There's something about it that just shouts, "Hey, this food is going to be great." He also feel that it cooks better than some of the lower priced Dutch ovens. It seems like it will last him a lifetime. It is the highest quality - super durable and with great heat distribution. Plus, a general great feel and great looks (like I already mentioned).

Avoid those with pinholes
By Kindle Customer on Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2024
This Dutch Oven has about 10 visible pinholes on the inside. I noticed them when I finally opened the package on thanksgiving day. I did not open the package on the day I received it because I trusted Le Creuset's products' quality. I tried to do a warranty claim for a possible replacement. Their response was very prompt. But they will not do it. To be fair I am quoting their reasoning: " Le Creuset enameled cast iron units are individually hand-made at our foundry in France. Our cast iron pieces first begin with a brand-new sand mold. After the molten cast iron is poured and cooled, the mold is broken down so only one individual piece comes from each mold. The enamel is blown by hand, and intricacies occur during this blowing and firing process. After the enamel is applied, the unit is heated to extreme temperatures to harden the enamel. Pinholes and other cosmetic intricacies occur at this time, more noticeably on raised areas such as the lettering, rings on the lid, etc. Since each piece is uniquely crafted, it is one of a kind. The pinholes in the enamel do not affect the integrity or performance of the item. The cast iron piece is completely sealed after the enamel is applied, to prevent any rust formation with normal use. The item is completely safe to use, and the intricacies will not cause any issues in the future. You will notice the intricacies more on lighter colored pieces, as the dark cast iron can be more visible. The rim of the lid and pot are not enameled, so visible differences in coloring and texture can be noticed. This also does not affect the safety or performance of the cookware in any way. Since all enameled cast iron pieces are made this way, we cannot guarantee a replacement would not have the same or more intricacies in the enamel. Each piece is analyzed by the quality control team before being packaged and shipped across the world to various Le Creuset distribution centers. If there is any safety concern, the piece would not pass inspection and would be recycled." So I am ending with keeping my pinholed Le Creuset Dutch Oven. Lesson here, inspect your orders right away as soon as you receive them. Amazon is good at replacing your purchases if you are not satisfied.
