Great for a small room
By Buckeyedobe on Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2015
I purchased this because it got great reviews at Costco. (Unfortunately, it was out of stock at Costco.) This is great for a small bedroom. I am very pleased. I almost purchased a more expensive one at Costco. I also looked at many humidifier ratings online and tried out a Consumer Reports pick. A comparison is below. I love that the Tribest has no filters and is so easy to clean. It drains well every day. I followed the suggestion of using distilled water to prevent white dust. (It takes a little over half a gallon to fill the unit.) I've had the humidifier for two months and have had no problems with white dust or water leaks. I've also had no problems cleaning it weekly with the hydrogen peroxide mix suggested in the online manual. I've used it nightly. The mist is pleasant with two speed options. I've never had the mist sink to the floor. It runs through the night and stops when empty on either option. The unit is very quiet. The unique features of this are the changing lights and the aromatherapy drawer. I haven't tried aromatherapy in this unit yet. The "default" setting is to have the nightlight change colors (occasionally darkening to black). If desired, you can select one color to maintain through the night. You may also run this without any lights (if you are sensitive to light or have concerns about artificial light and its potential impact on health). The light changes rather slowly so it's not like flashing Vegas signs. I have the lights changing every night. The only negative to this experience was that Amazon shipped me one that looked used (even though I purchased a NEW one). It had a perfume-like odor, was missing the manual, and wasn't wrapped well. I really needed a humidifier, so I kept it to try. [I purchased this from SirKitCity, but Amazon fulfilled the order.] I tried the Crane humidifier as well. (The owl version of that is one of the Consumer Reports recommended ones. I had the elephant version.) That one went back. It has a larger water basin (holding one gallon) and a dial control. The problem with it was that it kept dripping water on the floor, even if I had it on low. If the dial was too low, though, the unit wouldn't release any mist and would have condensation all over it. I couldn't understand why the mist kept "rainbowing" to the ground. The manual just tells you that it shouldn't do that. Was the room too humid? But we keep the door open while the heater is running all winter. And why wasn't the Tribest having the same issue then? It also didn't drain nearly as well as the Tribest when I tried to clean it. The Crane was about half the price of the Tribest, but the Tribest was far easier to use and looks better to boot. The Crane was cute, but the Tribest looks classy. EDITED: Shortly after I reviewed the item, it didn't work. I opened the unit and dried the vent (the top of it as well as inside as much as I could reach) as carefully as possible. We don't do anything crazy with the humidifier, but I know you have to MAKE SURE that there is no water in the vent. That worked like a charm. We have had this for six months now.

Mold Machine: Poor Design
By JG on Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2015
I thought I was going to love this humidifier, but it's on its way back because it grows mold so quickly, despite my following the directions. I literally cannot even make it to the suggested "weekly cleaning" because it will grow mold in half that time (disassembled and drying during the day or in use with fresh water, and nearly always in use at night). As the instructions permit, I tried my luck with regular tap water first to spare myself the hassle of getting filtered water from the fridge or buying gallons at the grocery store. That definitely grew mold, so I cleaned out the Humio (as the instructions indicate) and went to the filtered water from my refrigerator. That also grew mold, so I was back to reaching into mildewy nooks and crannies with q-tips. I even went so far as to use sanitized filtered water (boiling for at least six minutes and cooling) *just* to see if that would make a difference--still had to clean out the mildew twice as fast as the directions indicate! I spent way too much time disassembling and wiping the parts dry, experimenting with different types of water, and trying to get rid of mold in all the crevices of this machine. If I had taken a blowdryer to each piece of this thing after every single use, I may not have had the problem with mold. Seeing as how I purchased this for the simplicity of use, I am very disappointed. The essential oil diffuser, lights, and overall aesthetic are quite nice, but the entire point of a humidifier is to help the buyer breathe easier...and dispersing mold into the air is a complete contradiction! Looks like it may be necessary for humidifiers to have filters after all...
