Transformative Mattress Topper
By K. Price on Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2024
I was needing a new mattress topper for our older extra-firm mattress, because I was waking up several times during the night with hip and back pain. Most nights I'd wake up at 3 am in so much pain, I'd just give up and go sleep on the living room couch. My husband was also only getting about 6 hours of sleep a night. We thought maybe these sleep issues were the result of our advancing age. I read several articles about the best mattress toppers for 2024, and the Viscosoft toppers were regularly mentioned, I read all of the positive reviews, and decided to try the 4 inch Select High Density topper. When the topper arrived a couple of days later, we unboxed it and laid it out flat on top of our mattress so it could expand. There were a lot of areas that had creases and were bunched up at first, but as the mattress top expanded to the full 4 inches it flattened out and became uniformly smooth. It seemed a little soft/squishy to the touch, so I was afraid it would be too soft. I was surprised when I laid down on it that first night, because it actually felt very firm, so then I was afraid it would be too firm. The interesting thing that I noticed was that the mattress topper totally conformed to my lower back, fully supporting it, but at the same time I didn't feel like I was sinking down into it. I could roll over with ease, something that I couldn't do with my previous mattress topper. The real test was seeing how well both my husband and I slept that night. Instead of waking up 5 or 6 times and struggling to go back to sleep, I woke up once (only to use the bathroom). When I returned to bed, instead of taking a full hour to go back to sleep, I was asleep within a minute. My hip and my back were not hurting. My husband also only woke up once during the night to use the bathroom, and he too immediately went back to sleep. He slept 8 1/2 hours. He hasn't done that in years. I slept 9, something I also hadn't done in years. We both woke up with more energy and felt great! The next morning, we couldn't wait to tell each other how well we had slept. Another interesting observation was that we didn't get hot at all during the night like we have with other memory foam mattress toppers. There is a slight odor when you first open the box and lay the topper out to expand, but it eventually dissipates. If you are suffering from aches and pains during the night, and haven't gotten a good night's sleep in ages, don't assume that it is just because you are getting older. Try this mattress topper. It has made a tremendous difference in our sleep quality.

ADDED TO HOSPITAL BED AND WORKS GREAT
By Lilly on Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2024
I failed to check the measurements on the twin xl and ordered it from the reviews of the firmness. The existing mattress topper that came with the bed was gel and it formed a hole where your buttocks are almost immediately. I had that topper replaced 3 times before the warranty expired because of the quality of the gel. So when I received this topper I realized it was not made for a hospital topper. But it works. I was worried about the bend putting the head up and down and elevating the foot every night but after two weeks, no problems. My husband is unable to turn and has to lay on his back. So far he likes it really well. It exceeded the measurements for width and length but it fits between the bedrails without bunching and doesn't touch the foot of the bed. I realize it's only been two weeks, but there is no bunching, no dip at the buttocks. It bounces right back after he gets up. I will try and update this review after we have had it for a while, but as of right now I'm pleased, my husband is pleased and the price was much more reasonable than buying a mattress made especially for a hospital bed. My husband is 6 foot, weighs 165 pounds. I'm considering getting a full one for my bed. The 3 inch is quite firm. update 9/1/24. The pad had held its firmness and my husband continues to get a good nights sleep on it. He is unable to turn by himself so we are unable to judge whether that is easy or difficult. But he lays for at least 8 hours at night on it. We can raise the head of the bed for him, plus the foot of the bed slightly and it doesn't affect the pad. Evidently the pad is not cooling because he is more than comfortable with a sheet and light blanket and is always warm when I wake him in the morning. Like I said this is a pad on top of a hospital bed mattress that came with the bed. I've been waiting for the edges to start to tear away or get deformed because of the slight overlap of about 1 inch on either side but it hasn't happened. I'm going to order a full topper for my bed and hopefully it will make me as comfortable as my husband is. October 3rd . Still no problems with the pad on the hospital bed. But I ordered a 3 in for a full bed to add comfort to a mattress that is 15 years old. After 3 nights of trying to sleep on it, I had to go to another queen bed that we have I could hardly turn, I sunk into it so bad. I'm 135# and elderly and my bones just ached . It made the bed higher than I could comfortably get into. I'm basically a side sleeper and that may have been the problem. So I took a chance and ordered a 2 in queen and now I'm happy to say I'm getting a decent night's sleep. It's quite a bit firmer but being a side sleeper it seems just right. I thought about giving the 3 in. on the full bed away and buying a 2 inch for it because it's in a room that is more convenient for me, but the prices have rose so high I won't be ordering any more. Glad I have the ones I do. Update 12/13/24. The twin on the hospital bed is still working fine. On problems. The 2 inch I put on the queen bed was almost too firm and I had trouible getting comfortable on it. It's on top of a beautyrest mattress. The 3 inch that I put on the double bed just hasn't worked out. For whatever reason I wake up with a pain in my side. It's on top of a beautyrest also. It raised the bed up so high I had trouble getting into it. So I took it off the bed and now am trying to decide what to do with it. No one is sleeping on the Queen with the 2 inch so I'll just leave that the way it is. What can I say. The construction is great, the covers are beautiful but with 3 mattress pads in this house the only one I can rearlly give a recommend to is the one on the hospital bed. Sorry I spent so much money experimenting when I should have just purchased a egg crate, our old stand-by.
