Excellent first Roomba
By 👕 Diz n Dat 👚 on Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2016
Awesome price. Basically a brand new product. Not a scratch or ding on it upon arrival. I've had it about 2 months now and it runs perfect, but you can tell it's had some adventures. The front is a bit scratched up now. Household size is 2 cats and 2 people in a 1,300 sq. ft. apartment, so it picks up a lot of hair. This is the first Roomba I've owned and I can see the value in owning a more expensive unit. Especially in a larger living space. At least once a week it gets lost in a relatively simple cleaning space. I understand when it gets lodged under the fridge and gives up, but when it's literally 2 feet from the charging dock and I click "dock" you'd expect it to dock with ease. Nope. Sometimes it literally goes the other direction and sets out on a brand new quest. From what I read, the smarter ones actually map out the room and even know where to pickup later if it runs low on battery and needs to recharge mid-cleaning. Still, 75% of the time it goes from start to re-docking finish with no issues. It's not the quietest thing to have running around the room, so the scheduling feature was essential to me. So glad I didn't go for the cheapest Roomba that only runs when you manually tell it to. Not only is it convenient to "set it and forget it", but if I had to be there while it was running, its randomnes and noise would get annoying. It would take me far less time (plus cleaner patterns in carpet) to just use a regular vacuume cleaner. Also, the invisible border piece seems to work great. Other than times when the cats attack the blinking green light, it seems to stop the Roomba from entering prohibited areas. Overall, it picks up a ton of hair and dust with no problem. I run it 4 days a week while I'm at work and I recommend emptying the bin often (if not after every cleaning) as it builds up fast. Comes with a cleaning brush that works pretty ok to untangle hair and whatnot from the bristles. Easy to take apart. Probably wouldn't recommend simpler models, but 650 has been great so far and I'll almost definitely get a smarter Roomba when I move into a larger house. This is a great starter Roomba!

It does the job, but it's a pain in the back
By Kat/Seb on Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2017
The Roomba gets the job done. It's fair to start with that. But my God, this is one stupid device straight from the 80's. PROS: - The floors are kept in check and relatively clean. Which admittedly is the most important thing - The timer function works well (it starts when it's supposed to) CONS (brace yourself): - Loud: yes, it's loud asf. Good luck enduring the noise for more than 5 minutes - Inefficient: being that it's 2017, I kind of expected that the Roomba would scan the house once, starting from a predetermined position, learn the layout and use that information to optimize its path. But no, its vacuuming pattern is only a peg above random. The Roomba can turn a corner and look for a way out of a tight spot, but that's as "smart" as it gets. As such, you see the gizmo hitting the same areas over and over and over, while there's a pile of beach sand 3 feet away - Gets stuck all the time: the floors need to be immaculately free of small and medium objects or the Roomba will get stuck. Not a day goes by that the Roomba can't complete a cleaning cycle because it swallowed the sleeve of a sweater, it got tangled up with some cellphone charging cable or it got stuck on a relatively large infant toy. It's a good deal of work having to prepare the house for the Roomba to do its job, which sort of defeats the purpose. At least in part - Systematically fails to find its way back to the base to recharge: this is a twofold problem. First, the Roomba just doesn't seem to have the capacity to find the base all by itself. We've had this for a month or two and I think it saw it dock on its own twice. Second, the base is very light and the Roomba just pushes it around when trying to dock. This results in a pretty stupid - albeit somewhat funny - show in which the Roomba is chasing the base while pushing it around. The base needed to be heavier and sturdier, I believe. We found ways to prop it so that it doesn't slide sideways when the Roomba is coming to dock, but even when that happens, it doesn't always successfully connect, which in turn results on the Roomba endlessly going back and forth trying to hit that sweet spot in which it's actually recharging The Roomba has the potential for convenience and it can get the job done, but for a whooping (and frankly laughable) $300, I can't recommend this product.
