Simple, terrific, purple!

We had another garlic peeler/roller. It had ridges on the inside which makes you think it would peel better - not so! This KR roller/peeler is much superior. Anyway, our first peeler went missing and I ordered this one thinking I was paying too much. I peeled using the Jacques Pepin method - snip off the hard end of the clove then rap with a chef's knife. But when faced with peeing 30-40 cloves a garlic, this roller is much faster. Now I use it for even one or two cloves. Everything Kuhn Rikon makes that I've tried has been well designed and a pleasure to use. This little peeler is no exception.

Peel does come off, if you apply enough force to the point that your palm starts hurting
By kikimeow on Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2012
The first time I got the roller, I washed it, and realized that if it's wet inside, the garlic does not peel. When I tried again after it's dry, I put one piece of garlic in the middle, press the roller and roll, the garlic piece came out unchanged. The peel stayed on. Then on my third attempt, I roll and pressed very hard, it wasn't until then that the garlic peeled. After a few more rounds of practicing, the peel does come off, not easily though. Sometimes I pressed so hard that the garlic comes out damaged. By the time I'm done with one single garlic, my palm hurts due to the pressure I applied on my palm to the incongruent shape of the garlic. It took me about 10 minutes to finish peeling one garlic. If you think that the garlic peeler will save your fingers from smelling like garlic, you will be disappointed. Since you still need to take the peel off, your hand will still stink. I have success on peeling one piece at a time, not multiple pieces. This tool does get some time to get used to. Like many other reviwer's opinion, it's easier to smash the garlic and peel.
