THE Best Juicer on the Market - BAR NONE!!!
By M. B. Osborne on Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2013
We purchased the GSE 5000 juicer June 4, 2013. I spent MANY hours watching videos (DO check out YouTube, you will learn HOW to Use and Clean all the juicers quickly and easily!!!), and comparing ALL the juicer models out there. The Green Star juicers are the brand you want when you are SERIOUS about the QUALITY of your juice. Period. "Fast" juicers basically obliterate the cellular structure of the fruits and vegetables. While this will give you juice quickly, it also destroys micronutrients through the brute force of the extraction, as well as the additional oxidation of the juice by the air introduced through the high speed blades. "Masticating" juicers, particularly the currently popular "Vert" models, ARE better, but are still more gimmick than function. The reviews for these praise the better extraction, but MANY problems appear to occur due to the cheap construction of the devices, particularly the screen, which seems subject to breakage. These models have a LOT of plastic parts that are INTEGRAL to the machine, rather than just covers... Now, the Green Star Elite GSE 5000 does have plastic, but the mechanical plastics are STURDY, DURABLE, and RIGID. The only thinner plastic part would be the unit housing cover. This, with reasonable care, should not crack, break, or otherwise fall apart easily. Since it IS an expensive piece of equipment, DO treat the parts with care, regardless how well constructed they are... If you find this juicer "difficult" to clean or assemble, you simply should not be using any appliance more complicated than a spoon. Seriously. "DIFFICULT" IT IS NOT!!! There are only SEVEN (7) parts to take off or put on. VERY EASY. Almost Idiot Proof. The ONLY difficult parts to assembling it are: 1) making sure the augers are correctly aligned, with the "one dot" gear tooth between the "two dot" gear teeth of the other auger, and 2) Slightly rotating the twin augers when pushing them into the juicer body. They have to turn ever so slightly to align, but again, it is NOT difficult. Just gently "wiggle" them as you continue to gently push, and they will go in. Do yourself and your juicer a favor, and cut your carrots into chunks no longer than about an inch. They will NEVER jam if you do. This goes for almost any vegetable. While the Green Star IS powerful, you purchased it to JUICE, NOT to cut the vegetables up and juice. Also, if you take the extra time to cut the veggies before juicing, you will find that you will have to use FAR less pressure to push them into the juicer. (FWIW, I ALWAYS use the plastic, NOT the wooden pusher - It is DESIGNED not to reach all the way down to the gears, so you will NOT grind any plastic off - ignore that warning in the videos!!!) Get a small bowl, and when the bowl is full, you have enough for a glass of juice. If you are new to juicing: 1) Add ice cubes to your juice. The colder the better when you start, TRUST. 2) Add a bit of water to dilute it if the taste is too strong - It can take a bit of getting used to. 3) Keep a can of frozen Juice Concentrate in the freezer, and add a small spoon to juices that are too "green" to help make them a bit more palatable. Carrots are your juicer's best friend. Put a piece or two after every soft veggie to help push the pulp through. NEVER WAIT TO WIPE YOUR JUICER!!! Every complaint about the Green Star screens is due to people NOT cleaning them promptly (within 30-60 minutes). If you rinse and wipe your juicer FAITHFULLY and QUICKLY, you will never have a screen problem. The Green Star 5000 comes with two brushes, and I have also found that a new toothbrush can do the job of them both pretty well. The screen, which is the hardest part of the juicer to clean, collects fiber on the end where the pulp comes out. This is one reason cutting your produce into small chunks is strongly suggested. Start by brushing the inside of the screen to loosen fibers. Then brush the outside of the screen to remove the loosened plant fiber. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two, tops. For ANYONE who complains about the amount of time to use or clean this juicer, stop and consider the time and energy you would use to prepare and clean up after a regular meal. This juicer extracts MORE juice than any other model except the weird, cumbersome, and expensive Norwalk. And that puppy makes prepping your fruits and veggies into a religious ceremony... And clean up for the Green Star is no more difficult than washing your blender or food processor. Easier in some ways, no sharp blades to look out for. This juicer is an investment, and will change your life in regards to how you look at juicing. Grasses, leaves, even weeds are now part of our diet (Lamb's Quarters are so common, yet SO nutritious - my husband shakes his head, but knows to leave them alone when he sees them, so I can juice them!). The additional cost will make up for itself in the LESS WASTE of juice from your produce, and the WIDER VARIETY of plants that you can put into this machine. With a modicum of care, and a smattering of common sense, you should have NO problems, and YEARS of enjoyment with your Green Star. I know I am having a blast!!! ~M

The twin gears are in my opinion the best at getting quality juice
By chris on Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2018
Ok, I’m a juicing pro for all sense of the word. I’ve been juicing for 20 years regularly. I’ve used dozens of different types of juicers. I own 3 different Tribest juicers along with several other types. I juice lots of carrots, spinach, apples, cucumbers, watermelon, celery. The twin gears are in my opinion the best at getting quality juice. You can make life easier by using centrifuge juicers like the Breville juicers (which my wife prefers over this one) they are easier (less arm strength needed to push produce through) and faster to use, but quality suffers a bit. I myself always go back to this twin gear juicer, to me quality is most important. Here is my complaint (or not really a complaint, but thought) to the company. I bought the green power GP-E1503, some 15 years ago. Absolutely LOVE IT! I figured it’s getting old and showing signs of age. I searched the reviews like crazy, tried several more juicers in clouding the angel juicer (horrible!) none compared to mine. I contacted tribest about this “new model” they have which looks like the new version of mine, only could not understand why they still sold the old version. They told me the new model (this one) if far better and improved over my old one, they told me gears are bigger (not true, exact same gears) Now I know. YOU CAN NOT IMPROVE ON PERFECTION! The GP-E1503 is by far better than this new version. My complaint is the screen is harder to clean, the extra casing on outside is unnecessary, the clamps allow more pulp through. Why can’t you leave things alone, why change a juicer that was already perfect and change just to make it “prettier”. Save yourself the headache I went through and just buy the original green power GP-E1503. It is by far better than this one!!!! Update, less than two months later this unit is letting more and more pulp in it than it was when I first got it, hence I lowered my review to one star. Don’t buy this model, but the old model, by far superior!

Read about pros and cons of 4 main juicer types in Chris Carr book and decided on a Twin Gear type because it was the second best at preserving nutrients; I was okay with the trade-off of being more time-consuming to clean than other types. The most-nutritious Norwalk costs thousands, while twin gear machines cost hundreds. Of the latter, I chose the Greenstar Elite based on reading customer reviews. I appear to have received a defective machine. Amazon is shipping a replacement. I will update my review after it arrives and I've used it for a while. On opening the box, it appeared to have been opened, unpacked and repacked, but nothing was missing, and the parts all looked clean and unused, so no problem, I thought. I read all and followed all instructions (I'm the type that always does that, and errs on the side of treating just about everything from clothing to machines with more TLC than specified). I also watched the DVD. I used the juicer for one recipe from the Carr book on the 1st day (ie, I didn't make multiple batches). Cut up carrots, kale, chard and spinach, I did add one small beet cut into 4 pcs. THRILLED with the results. Juice was delicious. The pulp was super-dry. The machine worked beautifully, no issues. Clean up was not quick. I already expected that and am willing to do it for the benefits. Don't want any speck of organic matter left behind in the screen rotting over time. A helpful multi-tip, multi-brush tool comes with machine which makes it easier to get every speck. Cool so far. I'm a decades long family caregiver, now down to one family member to care for at home. Nutrition has become a challenge. I've had a hunch for a while that the minimal eating has more to do with how tiring it is for her to chew, than lack of appetite. I try very hard to serve her things she likes, and she indicates that what I'd been serving her was delicious, but even with me feeding her to conserve energy, she waves most solid foods away after a few bites. I was aware that she'd keep emptying her glass if I kept refilling it, so for some time, I've been relying on 3-4 nutritional supplement drinks per day to ensure she's getting a minimum of calories and nutrients. But I'm not thrilled, reading the ingredients. She GUZZLED the 1st glass of juice, draining it to the bottom with sucking noises. More fresh vegetables consumed in 5 minutes than I'd normally get down her in a week. VICTORY! YAY! Repeat day 2. I'm elated! I'm excited to anticipate perhaps all kinds of health benefits showing up for her in months to come if this continues! Day 3: I decide I'm going to jazz it up a little and prep some watercress, parsley, and a crisp apple to add to the 3 ingredients I'd used for the first 2 uses. It took quite a bit of time to scrub and cut up, to wash and strip herbs and greens to remove all stems. Looking forward to having her juice minutes away, MACHINE DEAD. Tried other appliances in same outlet, work fine. Tried disassembling and reassembling several times. Tried Reverse button. DEAD. The machine gave no indications that it was failing or in distress the first 2 uses. Worked perfectly. I expect a machine that costs hundred of dollars to be capable of being used once a day FOR YEARS, not twice. As I said, I will update review after receiving replacement and using it a while. The first machine is going back. PS Had to wait til noon Eastern time to contact Tribest Customer Service Pacific time. VERY HELPFUL. GOT MY MACHINE WORKING quickly with over the phone instructions. Back to being thrilled! I cancelled the return and replacement process. Fingers crossed that there will be no more issues. Provided machine is reliable and long-lived, I expect to use this more than our Vitamix. Love it!

One of the reasons I wanted a juicer was all the apples I come across as a landscaper. Juicing was a way to use more apples in less time. Before I ended up purchasing this juicer, I thought I was going to get an Omega juicer because I knew someone that had one and heard they were good. I read plenty of reviews off amazon and other sites relating to different juicers. I watched youtube videos as well. This was more than I thought I was going to spend, but I'm glad I did. I bought it in September of 2016 and it's still going strong today. On the top of the list of produce to juice was apples. I will say it makes the best apple cider I’ve ever had. I just vote the apples, slice them up, and juice them pretty quickly. There is some foam, but you can drink it, or screen it out. I’ve only bought apple juice a couple times since I bought this. Store bought isn’t good anymore. It will generally get 6 to 8 ounces of juice per apple depending how large. I used it 2 or 3 times a week for a while and then was on and off with using it. Now I'm back. I have used it for many different kinds of veggies, greens, and fruits and it works well with all. For example, for the past few weeks, 2 to 3 times a week, I'll juice 5 to 10 pounds of carrots at a time so I can have 2 glasses of juice a day until next time to juice. After washing the carrots, cutting to fit, juicing, and final cleanup, it usually takes anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour to juice 8 to 10 pounds. It yields between 60 to 70 ounces of nice, smooth, clean and fresh tasting juice with minimal grit. It's totally worth the time. I used to buy carrot juice, but not anymore. Store bought is pasturized and old, so it's not as good or as healthy. It's also more cost effective to juice your own compared to a juice bar. I also purchased the soft fruit knob for oranges or whatever other soft fruit. The other day I juiced just 2 organic oranges with the more pulp screen and my wife said it's the Best Orange Juice she's ever had. The manufacturer claims that the gears are magnetized to enhance the quality of the juice and I believe they are. Juice will last 3 to 4 days in the fridge no problem. I will say though when I juiced organic Meyer's lemons to make lemonade, it was awesome, but the flavor changed within 2 days and wasn't as good anymore. Greens and wheat grass were no problem mixed with other veggies either. Even garlic is good to add into the mix. I did try it to make but butter, but it was really gritty and dry. Maybe I didn’t use the right nuts or recipe? Now, to address the cleaning; If you clean it right away, it's not too difficult and comes with good utensils for that, except you may also want a round scrub brush. About the stains that were mentioned, running a lemon through after your done helps and water helps to loosen debris, but there may be remaining color stain. In my opinion of that is "oh well". Just clean it as best you can and keep making awesome juice. It's only stain. About that issue 'that one reviewer' mentioned with the stainless gears not being stainless and flaking... those gears in the picture aren't flaking, they're covered in buildup, which may happen, but it's more like stain and it doesn't get in the way of performance. They are stainless, because if they weren't rust might develop before you could shake a stick at it. The bottom line, if I had it to do over again, I would still buy it.

I was suspicious when I saw an opened package, and more so when it was black instead of color I ordered, but the juicer itself was new and unused. I had used Acme and Champion juicers and this compared well with modern design improvements that made assembly, use, and cleanup relatively easy. It quietly juiced 10# of large carrots with a lot of spinach, apples, and celery in about an hour. It helped to slice the bigger carrots. Cleaning tool supplied helped clean the screens - an annoying requirement of most juicers.
Technology that went in to this machine is amazing!

Received it last week and right away took it all apart to get familiar with it and then washed all the parts. Watched the video and read the instruction book, that really helped a lot (several good tips). I wish the people who had the bad experiences would have at least read the book/video might not of had those problems. I am glad I did not listen to them, after reading some of the negative reviews I almost didn’t buy it. But I always take most of the reviews with a grain of salt unless you have several negative reviews. First couple of times I used it it was some what difficult placing the twin gears into the machine it took a little time getting use to it but after using it several times it got a lot easier. Yes it is slow and takes time preparing the veggies/fruit because you have to cut up everything in small pieces to fit in the narrow chute. At first I thought about sending it back but after seeing the quality of green juice that was extracted I changed my mind. We are so spoiled using these centrifugal inexpensive juicers that are super fast that leave over 60%-70% of the nutritional juice in the pulp with very little/some health benefits. I have been juicing for over fifty years and have used some of the most expensive juicers and presses on the market spending up to $2600 for a juice machine. People will say “well it takes to much time to tare down, clean the parts and put back together etc. etc. In thirty minutes I am done, bet it takes you a lot longer making dinner and then the time consuming job of cleaning up. Think positive and tell your self “yea it may take a little more time to prepare the juice but “Wow” look at the health benefits involved” in my opinion this green machine that is reasonably priced is better than any machine in its price range because of the moculear things that happens in the magnetic twin gears that no other machine has (watch it in the Video). I am juicing everyday and one of the time cleaning tips that came out the instruction booklet is if you are using your juicer all day you only need to clean ounce at the end of the day. Each time I was finished juicing I took a 16oz glass of water turned the machine on poured the water in the chute and flushed it out, that was it until the next time I used the machine again that day. TIP: Remember to use a larger bowl under the machine as the water runs out the chute and the tension knob (before you flush it remove the tension knob). In my kitchen I have three juicers I use, Press (super soft fruits/veggies), commercial citrus juicer, Triwest masticating 5000 (does a great job on all my greens) this does it all for me. The last thing I will say is if you are a weekend or once a month juicer then I would buy a hundred dollar or less juicer that will better meet your needs. As you get into juicing over the coming years and are really serious about your health then I would invest the money and buy the machines that better suit your needs. Trust me overtime you will save $$.

It's in the name: Slow. I've only used it twice. Once for green juice, then again for carrot juice. If you want regular helpings of green juice, then you'll probably be sad. 1. It takes tons of greens to make a little green juice (not too surprising), and it takes a very long time. 2. Claims that you can just "rinse out" the juicer between juicing sessions using plain water to flush out the bits are false. That might work for some ingredients, but not greens. You'll have no choice but to take it apart and clear out the leafy debris between each session. The filter just gets too clogged to simply "rinse" it out by pouring water in there before the next juicing. Having said that, this machine (being slow by nature) does not shred and destroy your ingredients; thus, you do get high-quality juice. In sum, if time is a factor, then you won't like this machine. If quality is important to you, and you have the time, I highly recommend it. I gave it a three-star rating only because I really hoped this would be the answer for a lot of homemade green juice. If I were only interested in apple or carrot juice, etcetera, then I would put five stars on it.

I have use this machine almost daily for over seven years and it has never missed a beat. I have absolutely loved it. It has been wonderful and very reliable. I would recommend it to anybody, and I am a very very critical consumer. I do not like rating things, unless I’m willing to put my reputation on the line. Their customer service is absolutely wonderful to work with and they back their products 100%. They definitely made a product that is supposed to be used every day and I juice three different juices daily. I juice for four people at approximately 2 quarts of juice per recipe for a total of 6 quarts of juice per day… I don’t think that they expect people to juice this much, but they definitely made their product with the type of quality that can handle it seamlessly. I even watched for a used like new to become available so I could save hundreds of dollars and get one for my daughter and their customer service advised me that they will back it up as if I Purchased it new. This is one of the only items that I have ever purchased used like new and been 100% pleased with it.
An excellent product in every way

An excellent product in every way. A few points right away. Cleaning this unit is simple and takes about 12 minutes from start to finish including drying. This is after juicing many carrots, celery, ginger and kale. Second point is that since preparing the veggies for juicing does not require slicing them into smaller half inch pieces for carrot, celery etc the total time of use may be 5 minutes longer on the cleanup, but 5-8 minutes less on the preparation. It takes 10 minutes to clean up after breakfast or lunch. I am not sure why some reviews state the cleanup time is unreasonable...maybe the expectation is juice and walk away For cleaning, I removed the screen and set it in hot soapy water to soak while I clean the other parts. If I want to walk away from the sink, the screen is still soaking and when I return it is an easy process. I use the dull side of a butter knife to clean the few parts of the screen that need more work. This method is suggested in the user manual. Kale goes in completely un-trimmed...just feed it into the juicer with the stem end first and use the tamper with a little push. Carrots and celery are processed just as easily. The amount of juice that is produced was a surprise...just about all available juice is extracted. Mixing up the veggies, fruit and citrus will ensure good results. Another review suggested juicing a lemon or lime as the last item and I tried that with good results. Also, ginger. The citrus and ginger help to clean the screen and also add great flavor and nutrients. I use only organic produce. Before I had the GSE5000 I would walk through the grocer and not pick up many greens I wanted simply because it was not always effiecient to get kale, spinach, collards, chard, cabbage and many others because of the potential for not using them timely. With the GSE5000, if it is green or otherwise interesting, it is a simple choice to buy the greens and easily juice them while still fresh. The quality of the juice is very good. I am new to juicing and always add either a lime, lemon or ginger to my green juices. Beets and red cabbage are very good for you. Citrus and apples are used only to add flavor. I think that 90% of the juice I make is green and 10% or less will be one piece of fruit and then lime or ginger. The lime and ginger goes a long way. A 2 inch piece of ginger easily adds good flavor to 2-3 quarts of green and red (beet) juice. As FoodBabe states, mix up your greens using all that is available. Do not simply juice kale and spinach over and over and over. Variety is important. I have not yet used the GSE5000 for nuts or grains, though I plan to do so. I have no doubt it will do a great job. And, the 12 year warranty is good. The unit is quiet and has plenty of power, very easy to use. Not too heavy, but not super light either. The carrying grip is well balanced and makes picking and carrying it easy. As others have said, and I agree, if you are thinking about a juicer, even if this is your first, get the GSE5000. You will be happy with your decision.

I truly love this juicer, because it produces great juice. I have had many juicers over the years. Unlike the other juicers that spins the fruit over blades, the juice from the twin gear masticating juicer, can be stored in your refrigerator for up to 3 days. This is a great advantage when planning your meals. However this juicer is very expensive. The only way I was able to afford it was that is used my points from my American Express card to knock $300.00 off from the price. Juicing is very labor intensive, so when I juice, I usually make a gallon at a time to drink over the course of a few days. The produce must be washed and cut down to the size where it will fit down the feeder chute. Then there is the clean up afterwards which is time consuming and uses a lot of water. There are quite a few parts, nooks and crannies that have to be cleaned. The juicer comes with a few brushes for cleaning, but I would suggest you also go out and purchase your own brushes that may suit your needs better. The juicer also comes with a nice glass measuring cup or pitcher in which to collect your juice, however I would also suggest you use your own bowl to collect this juice which will allow you to pour the juice into a bottle to avoid unintentional spills and waste. The screen that is provided to reduce foam is useless because the mesh is too small. The remedy is that you buy your own screen with a larger mesh, and place it in your own bowl. This proves to be a much better system of collecting the juice and reducing the foam. Of course you will have to develop a system which works best for you through trial and error. Again I love this juicer. Frequently I will buy produce on sale, just to see what the juice will taste like. This juicer makes great pomegranate juice! Cranberry juice is extremely sour so you should mix it with something else like apples. Soft fruits are a bit of a challenge, since the produce backs up on you. Things like soft red apples and ripe pineapples are a bit difficult. You also want to watch it when you use ginger root. Because the machine extracts the liquid content so well, the ginger root juice is very strong and highly concentrated. A little bit goes a very long way. Leafy green vegetables? C’mon do you really drink that stuff? Don’t let the guy on Youtube fool you, the stuff tastes awful. However the machine makes very concentrated juice from any vegetable you put in it, so I suggest you add some kind of fruit to any vegetable juice you are making. There is only one juicer out there on the market which is better than this one, and it costs about $1200.00. If you are thinking about getting this juicer and can’t decide, I would urge you to spend the money, and you will become a juice connoisseur.
