Handles are painted on, which is what I expected but I saw has disappointed other buyers. Good, sturdy products.

These are really ugly!

These seem sturdy and look fine in the picture. But if I had seen them in a store I would not have purchased. The handles are dipped in paint and it was a poor job of it. Just looks like they are old and worn not brand new. Shabby chic is not my thing. If I buy something new, I want it to look good. I am a Baby Boomer and I've had enough old and shabby from my childhood.
