Excellent shredder, does the best job on onions and hash browns, and easy to clean up and reuse.

Easy snap on guard allows you to rotate to any of three grate settings and grip the thing solidly. You might have to be careful when getting close to the blades it shreds down onions and cheese really fast. Here in Fort Wayne, we have a place called Powers Hamburgers that's been around for about 80 years. They serve White Castle style burgers on dinner roll buns, but they cook them with shredded onions for a unique taste. This is the only easy to handle shredder that has the proper side, (the biggest one), to get perfect Power's style onions. Press them on the grill with a 2 ounce piece of ground beef and fry up. The plastic cover pops right off for easy cleaning with basically just a rinse for veggies,or maybe a hot water and a little brushing for cheese. The hole at the top I'm not sure what's it's for but I use it to hang the thing up on a nail since I intend to use often. It also did a nice job making hash browns with the skins on or in a pinch you could mash them after shredding and just add butter, milk and salt. For some reason the conic shape with the narrow part at the top makes the grating easy as you go downward. The onion/potato/cheese block will start to conform to a round shape so you may want to rotate to get as much shredded as you need. Seems very durable, don't know how long till it gets dull, but it's cheap to replace, and a lot less maintenance than those mandolin style slicer/graters. Recommended for the home cook who doesn't like a lot of messy clean up from food processors and such.

Not fit for purpose.
By Carolyn on Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2016
I ordered this grater for two reasons: it was described as being laser cut and it was smooth on the back to help prevent cuts during use. I used it only one, to grate carrots, something that one would expect a grater to be able to handle. Unfortunately the blades were very nearly flat and the carrot kept getting stuck on the blades and what did grate was difficult to remove from the inside of the grater. The final issue came up when I tried to clean it. No matter how many times I washed it, carrot gratings remained on the blades. I tried drying it to see if the gratings would detach then but, as of now, bits of carrot are still stuck on the blades. While this grater appears to be well designed, it fails to meet its function of grating vegetables, releasing them, and then being cleanable. Perhaps it might work on something other than carrots but I will never know since I had no alternative but to dispose of the grater.
