Kasa products are ROCK SOLID.

UPDATE checking in after 5 years of constant usage. Can you believe all bulbs are still working? I have over 40 Kasa products. Plugs, Bulbs. All good still. --------------------------- This is my 3rd update. I am keeping my original review as well as the last update on bulbs losing connection.. Turns out, it was all human error, meaning, all fingers pointing back at me. The reason two bulbs lost connection was because I made certain gadgets (webcams, printer etc) to be assigned a fixed local IP address and ONLY on a certain port setting (not 8000). When my router resets, two bulbs found themselves using those IPs, but because the port was not assigned correctly, it could never connect onto my local LAN. So, apologies TP-Link! Once I figured that out, I was able to repurpose the bulbs that I thought were "dead" and used it elsewhere. So far, all my Kasa bulbs has been stellar. Upgrading this back to 5 gleaming stars. --------------------- My original review was below. Originally given 4 stars, I am downgrading it to 2 stars. As stated, two bulbs lost connection to the internet. The bulbs will still switch on to their last configuration, but at this point, they are essentially regular bulbs and not smart anymore. Which is a waste. I was hoping they would last for many more years. In contrast, some of the OEM china made smart bulbs are still working, albeit their color temp and brightness are not as rich as these. I have bought a few of the newer TP link bulbs (K series). Will see if they last longer. ---------------------------- Great smart bulb. I am knocking off 1 star as out of 4 bulbs that I own, one of them would lose connectivity every once in a while. Though this could also be due to the remote location (from router) that the bulb resides in. The color temp is just right, I love the effect the bulb has when dimmed at 5%. Perfect as a night light. Easy integration with Alexa once you enable the KASA Skill within Alexa App. This bulb is bright enough to use as a primary reading light source. Best of all, it works without a hub.

I *really* wanted to like this...
By KDel on Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2017
I really wanted to like this. And at first, I did. But 4 months in, it's a different story. When I got my bulb, it worked fine. The Kasa app isn't super-intuitive, and I felt the directions weren't exactly helpful, but after 10 or 15 minutes of fiddling I got things up and running. I even got it attached to my Amazon Echo with relatively minimal fuss. It was responsive, it worked, and I was well under way of realizing my dream of human slothitude. Things started going downhill a month or so in, when Alexa could no longer find the device. Grrr. I de-coupled it, uninstalled and reinstalled the Kasa app (which, by the way, I can't find on the App Store - like, the name of the app is "Kasa for Mobile" and typing "Kasa" in the search bar will even autocomplete the name, but it doesn't return the actual app. I had to go to the website and click the link directly to the app. Like, any other thing I search for on the App Store, I'll find along with eleventy bajillion completely unrelated apps just because the search term was somewhere in the description - so it's kind of sad that the "flagship" app for that otherwise uncommon search term won't even be returned. Make of that what you will.) After three or four times of performing this process to reconnect the Echo only to have it disconnect again in a few days, I gave up. I was still able to control it using the app, so I gave up on my voice activated light and settled for app activated lights. So, things continued fine for another couple of months, until they didn't. The past month has been straight up not working though. I've tried de-coupling, uninstall/reinstall, and nothing works. Well, if I get up and turn the light off and then on again, it seems to reset the wifi receiver in the bulb long enough to connect and allow me to control it from the app for about 5 minutes. Which, if you're not following, COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF REMOTE CONTROL LIGHTS. I'm connected to the 2.4gh network. I don't know what else to do and frankly, I really shouldn't have to do anything else as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a tech genius, but I'm by no means technologically maladapted, either. I get things need a reset every now and then. But every time? I'm not exaggerating. I have to use my "smart" light as a standard light. I'm sorry, but this is pretty standard freakin technology. I have various devices, all of which use wifi to connect to the network and manage to stay connected with no issues, no resets, so it's not as though I have any unrealistic expectations of what the tech can deliver (or connectivity issues.) Like, if you can't master something that laptops have had a lock on for a decade, then you should probably rethink your design. If you like $20 light bulbs that don't meet expectations, then this is your product. Otherwise, I'm afraid I can't recommend it.

I bought a TP Link TP100 basic wifi light, I don't really care if it's the warm one or not, but I prefer the sun light leds (bluish). They do offer a bluish or changeable color temp bulb. Anyway, I wired up another bulb receptacle next to the switched cree lamp I already had. Amazon had a pretty good sale, so I jumped on it early. Update! (7/21/17) still NO PROBLEMS and no wifi issues. Bulb works flawlessly. The good -- * Don't need a hub since it's a wifi lamp * The app it uses is pretty much set it and forget it. * Can set for on at sunrise and off for sunset. Nice feature to have. * It's very nice for security to have a light turn on at at sunset. * can control the light from my phone away from the house - if you wanted * The light dims to 50% at 7:30 for movies, kinda nice * Bulb then dims to 30% after around 10PM * Then it goes down to 1% after midnight (again security, offers enough light to appear someone could be up) * This creates a really nice ambient light for going to the bathroom or late night getting up to do things. * Bulb turns itself off at around 3AM * you could set the bulb to do different things for each day as well * saves power by dimming and secures the place with light. * app has a really nice power meter mode, shows how much watts the light used per day/week/year. Cons * It's not as bright as my cree light, but like I said, if I need more light, I'll just flip on the cree, no big deal. I don't ever switch on or off the wifi lamp, it just does it's thing working around my schedule. * it doesn't change colors, kinda cool if it did, but it's not what I bought it for. Other than that, I really like the bulb, it kinda is a bit spooky like a ghost in the house controlling the bulb. I've been using it for about 2 years and never had a problem with it. Never had to funk with it or reset it. It just works doing it's thing. I did update the firmware, not a big deal and easily done. Might be nice to have an auto update firmware check box.

Quality Rating: 4/5 Based on price: 5/5 Time with Product: 4 years (purchased in 2017) Review: I've had this light bulb for 4 years now. It has worked beautifully with my Amazon Alexa, and I truly love the company KASA. I think they produce great quality products that have great longevity and durability. I love the dim feature of the light bulb, it truly allowed me to set the scene just right for whatever I was doing. 100% for reading. 75% for chilling in my room. 50% chilling at night and getting ready for bed. 25% in-bed relaxing before sleep. 0% While sleeping. Sometimes, I would use it as a night light: 5%. The great part-- I scheduled all of that. So, at exactly 9:30pm everyday (unless I specify otherwise) my routine starts where everything is timed perfectly that the moment I finish settling into my bed, the light automatically turns off and I am ready to rejuvenate. I would highly recommend anyone who is into smart devices and loves cool tech like this to purchase this smart bulb. It is super cool and really nice to tech out a room. Plus, imagine waking up or going to bed and just saying: "Alexa, turn off the light." A couple of years ago, it was like a dream come true. In 2021, I got used to it. This is part of my everyday lifestyle and I cannot imagine living without the substantive amount of tech I use in my bedroom. I hope my review makes sense and helps you decide whether or not you would like to purchase this device. Have fun shopping! :) - Rami Taha

Needing to find a solution to making sure I didn't come home to a dark house after work, and not wanting to leave lights on all day, I decided to try this Smart Bulb. What I liked most about these bulbs compared to other Smart Bulbs was the fact that I didn't need a hub to use them. Basically these seemed the most cost effective, and simplest way to try out smart bulbs without having to invest in a whole system. The bulbs are fairly normal looking, and come packaged with clear directions. All I needed to do was download the Kasa App, and screw this into a light fixture, then follow the app's directions to complete the process. It took maybe 5 minutes to do it. Once installed, I found controlling the light through the app easy and straightforward. I was able to schedule the light to go on and off at specific times, and was even able to control how bright/dim the light was, despite the light fixture not being a dimming model. After a week of using this, I found it worked flawlessly and was super convenient. I really enjoy the fact that I can turn it on and off from anywhere using my cell phone, so I never come home to a dark house and my house looks occupied even if I'm not there. I ended up purchasing several more of these bulbs and have my whole house programmed to turn lights on/off at specific times. I've had to turn the power to one of my lights off, then back on, to reset a bulb that lost it's connection once, but other than that they've been reliable.
Alexa, turn on the laundry lights.

I bought the TP-Link Smart LED Light Bulb to go in the laundry room of my house where the light switch is on the far wall of the room meaning you'd have to walk through the dark to turn on the light. One of the big reasons I chose TP-Link is because I own an Amazon Echo and I love the integration it has with my existing TP-Link smart plugs, a simple setup process makes it easy to add to your system and control with Alexa which means no more walking in the dark! Here's a quick Pro/Con list for any interested buyers Pros: Inexpensive for a smart bulb Works well with Alexa Dimmable lights App shows power usage. Long Life Cons: There's no real "Con" for this product only observations / features I would point out to any buyer. -I was a little afraid that the slightly larger bulk of this bulb wasn't going to fit in the dome of my overhear light fixture but alas it did fit perfectly! May not for slimmer type domes. -I wish there was an auto off feature (Ex: 10 min after it turns on it auto shuts off.) -I would like to see a setup lock of some kind, setup requires you to flip on and off the light switch three times to enter setup. This is a very unique way to trigger a setup process but for kids or the not tech savvy among us it can cause havoc if the light switch keeps getting flipped on and off expecting it to behave like a normal light. It makes the setup mode restart and it disconnects the light from the phone app making you have to re-setup the device. A well placed piece of tape might help here. With Alexa integration I feel confident in stating that TP-Link is a must have for any smart home.
I have been wanting to get smart lighting for the house but not knowing which hub ...

This one bulb solved multiple problems. For years i have had issues with a light under covered porch either being left on all day or coming home to a dark porch. The light sensor i bought for the light never really worked right because the sunlight never really illuminated the ceiling of the covered porch. I have been wanting to get smart lighting for the house but not knowing which hub to use or smart home device I may need, i wanted a light bulb that worked straight off of my home's Wi-Fi without the need of a central command system. This bulb does that flawlessly. it picked up my home wi-fi and was programmed to come on at sunset and off at sunrise in about 3 minutes. That was the reason i wanted the Wi-Fi bulb. Too many times i would turn the light off in the morning but no one who got home before me turned it on so i came home to a dark house. The bulb grabs the sunrise and sunset times off the internet and now the light switch just stays on the on position and the bulb does the rest. The cost of the bulb may be a little prohibitive to place them all over your house but for a situation where a timer isn't possible, and a light sensor doesn't work, this works out fantastic. I 'll be getting one more for the rear porch light as well. UPDATE: 11/08/16 - After a couple of weeks, I still give the bulb 5 stars, the biggest problem is getting more of them. When i ordered the bulb, it was $19.99 but later i wanted 2 more and the price jumped to $34.99 so i ordered 2 of the 60W bulbs instead. Now i see these have gone back to $19 but it seems that is the price only when they are available. The other issue is the Kasa app that controls the bulb. On the Android version of the app, the date is one month ahead of the actual date. this causes a problem when you want to use the sunrise/sunset function of the app to control the light. I called and e-mailed Kasa about this and they didnt have a fix. BEcause I also have an IPhone and the date is correct on that version, i set it that way and it works fine.
Better and Simpler than Philips Hue System

Great smart bulb and smart plug system....we started out several years ago with Philips Hue, but that requires a “bridge” (a home base attached to our router). The Hue colors were fun for a few weeks, but they get boring after the novelty wares off (who wants a purple or a green tinged room when coming home from work?). So we switched to the Hue white-only bulbs...which were cheaper than the multicolor, but still darn expensive. Most recently, and we got rid of the last of our house’s non-LED bulbs, we tried with TP-Link KASA system using their Smart Plugs, Mini Smart Plugs, and Smart Bulbs. They don’t require a separate “bridge” and the app is much more user friendly that the Hue app. Plus, the TP-Link Smart Bulbs are significantly cheaper than the Hue bulbs (and we also use the Smart Plugs with just regular — but brighter and cheaper — LED bulbs), and they all work seemlessly with the KASA app. The only downside for us is the legacy of still having about 1/3 of our lighting being tied to the Hue app, and most everything else using TP-Link KASA (meaning two separate apps....which is annoying, but not so bad because we mostly rely on the app’s timers to turn on and off the lights, and we also pretty much kept all the Hue system lights in one bedroom). I love the KASA system so much, I hope they expand the product offerings (and if they do, we’ll eventually phase out the Hue system altogether). I highky recommend this TP-Link Smart Bulb, even though I wish it were slightly brighter so I could use it in more locations...but for those fixtures/areas that need brighter bulbs, just use the TP-Link Smart Plugs and a regular LED bulb with more lumens.

Alexa... turn on living room.

I purchased these to use alongside my Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Dot. Set up was pretty easy. Simply screw in the light bulb into the socket, wait for it to blink 3 times, and complete the process by using the TP-Link app "Kasa". The app will ask you to connect to the built-in WiFi from the bulb, then enter the credentials (username and password) for your home wireless network. You can set a schedule (via the Kasa app) where your light bulb automatically turns on and off (see attached pic). This does NOT require an Amazon Echo device. The Echo devices prove convenient by also allowing you to turn the light bulb on and off by saying, "Alexa turn on/off device name." I would highly recommend getting an Echo device; the Echo Dot is affordable and does the job nicely. An Amazon Echo device will also allow you to group 2 or more smart enabled devices. In my case, my living room ceiling fan has 4 light bulb sockets. I named each one LR1, LR2, LR3, and LR4 respectively. Using the Alexa app, I grouped all 4 light bulbs as "LIVING ROOM." In the attached video, you can hear me control the lights simply by saying, "Alexa, turn on living room". Note: I only had 2 light bulbs when I first created my video, but I got another 2 to complete the set during Christmas. The reason why I knocked down 1 star from my review is the following: 1) The light bulbs tend to lose their connection to your home wireless router when using the light switch to turn them off. You would think that since it is already "paired" that it would remember the network name/password once the light switch is turned on again. This is not the case. When the power is cut off completely for a long period of time, you have to "pair" the light bulb again for some strange reason. I've had to do this twice already. And no... there are no firmware updates available. It's current and up to date. 2) Other TP-Link smart devices (light switch) have an "Away" feature available in the Kasa app where the device randomly turns on and off during a period of time of your choosing to give the appearance that someone is home. This feature, however, is not available for the light bulbs. I'm not sure of the technical reasons for disabling this feature on the light bulbs, but I would love for this feature to be available on the light bulbs as well.
A Nice Product, but has it's Flaws.

Here is my honest review of TP-Link Smart Bulb: Pros: - Customize-ability! You can pick and chose the exact brightness of your liking. - Works out of the box. After some quick setup, you have it all up and working. No need for a hub, or any kind of external unit. - Works very quick with the Kasa app, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home. I have tested it with all three. - Very good white coloring. Not too cool, but not too warm. Great color. - Great price! Extremely affordable, yet they do not cut any corners. Very premium device, made from premium materials. - You can control the device anywhere in the world! As long as you have a WiFi connection or some sort of Cellular Service, you can control the brightness and power of the device. You can also set a schedule with it, which I have not tried yet. Cons: - Does not get that bright! This is my main issue, and why I subtracted one star. I am going to be purchasing the Higher Brightness bulb sold by TP-Link very soon, and will replace this with that one. I have one bulb, and it barely enough to light up a small room. Definitely need multiple for a bigger sized room! - It is very long. Not a big issue for me, but it will most likely cause conflict on most globes and shades. Make sure to check measurements before purchasing! Overall Thoughts: I like this product. I have used this product for 10 months and it isn't bad. I really want to give this product 5 stars, but that brightness issue is pretty bad. You can tell TP-Link got enough complaints about it, because they made the Higher Brightness model. So I would highly recommend getting that product instead, and if it is too bright, you can always dim it. Do I recommend this product? Depends. If you like higher brightness, then no. Would I buy this product again? No. I would buy the Higher Brightness. Should you buy this product? If you don't need anything too bright, then yes!
