I think this is a great cool mist humidifier. Check below for some common issues people see and how easy the fixes are, really this unit is great. First off, a quick word on different humidifier types. Ultrasonic humidifiers are a newer idea in humidification, and they're best in small areas as they're basically silent to humans- a speaker blasts the water with a noise too high-pitched for human ears which essentially shakes a fine mist of water into the air. Ultrasonic cool mist humidifiers are therefore the superior choice when it comes to bedrooms, baby rooms, and the like. And this is a fine cool mist humidifier. Pros: -Great, selectable volume. At max output this unit absolutely billows steam and could probably empty its whole tank in a couple hours, while at lower settings it can easily run for 10+ hours. I've had to learn to underfill the tank as I rarely even get close to the bottom during any given night. -Rotating misting hood. Turn the "hat" portion any direction you choose. -Selectable LED lighting includes a "carousel" mode that alternates between colors in an attractive manner, as well as individual color selection, and it even turns off. When I have guests I leave the carousel mode on as a night light, it works wonders. -Diffuser basket lets you add essential oil or other "smell-goods" (think Vapo-Rub or other mentholated products). -Basically silent. Depending on how stable your surface is you should hear next to nothing from the unit aside from the occasional gurgle of water replenishing the bottom steam generation box. Cons: Unit is a little difficult to clean. You have to take off the misting hood, pick up the water tank, and then you notice there's a significant pool of water in the base unit. So to clean the unit and ensure there's no bacteria building up, you need a third hand to grab the base unit and get it to the sink without spilling it. This isn't terrible, as you could leave the base unit and only clean it out one a week or month depending on your needs, but as part of my morning ritual I rinse all three pieces and leave them in the tub to try. The diffuser basket is a bit weak. It comes with a sponge which you should probably throw out immediately as it's a germ magnet. I tear off a thumbnail-sized piece of paper towel each night and use that to soak up a few drops of essential oil. Since the basket doesn't heat up, a few drops is all it's going to use. The scent therefore is very mild, akin to just leaving some oil out in a dish. The basket is also fairly flimsy, you have to be careful pulling it out. I cracked mine on the first day, and it's currently held together with a bit of clear tape. Not a deal breaker, the diffuser still works, but it's barely a feature. The LED unit only has one button, which cycles through all the light settings (including "off" and "carousel"). It would be nice if the unit had two buttons- "lights on/off" and "change mode". Having to press the buttons 10 times a day seems like a lot of wear and I'm counting down the days until it breaks. Overall: I think this is pretty much a perfect cool mist humidifier for small to medium rooms. Easily creates 10+ hours of steam almost silently, and does it with your choice of color modes and diffused oils. Highly recommended. The following troubleshooting is mostly covered in the manual, but I'd just like to copy it here because some reviewers seem to have issues and I'd like to point out how easy the fixes are. Problem- Unit is noisy. Fix- Most often, this is caused by the unit being mounted on an unstable surface. The ultrasonic system is basically a speaker playing a noise that's too high pitched for you to hear, so imagine a stereo speaker mounted on the same surface- if it's wobbly or flimsy the unit will cause it to rattle. Problem- There's a thumb-sized loose part in the tank. Fix- This is a replaceable ceramic filter, which has accidentally fallen off inside the tank. Fish it out and put it back on the filler cap, ensuring it is properly attached. If your filler cap is damaged or you cannot retrieve the part, or if the cap leaks due to the broken part, ask for a replacement.

FALSE DESCRIPTION: DOESN'T DIFFUSE ESSENTIAL OILS.
By Daniel Kauwe on Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2016
This product DOESN'T work as advertised. To be specific, it was, at the time of purchase, the only ultrasonic humidifier that I could find that advertised an essential oil diffusing feature. Just to note, most ultrasonic humidifiers have warnings against the use of essential oils, which makes sense given that adding them to the main water compartment would eventually cause buildup that would in turn impair or even completely ruin the ultrasonic membrane. However, I thought surely someone, somewhere had realized that the vapor stream could be passed through a secondary stage, at which point the essential oils could be diffused into the final outflow. This product is described as being able to diffuse essential oils, and so I decided to try it. WHAT A FAILURE! The essential oil diffusing "compartment" is just a small cavity that contains a tiny absorbent block, which can be soaked with essential oils...AND THAT'S IT! Essential oils require some mechanism of diffusion be it via heat or through carrier action (like within water vapor), therefore the advertised feature isn’t actually a feature at all. I did try it just to see what would happen and NOTHING HAPPENED. Again, without a mode of actually diffusing the oil, the essential oils won’t permeate the room so I don’t know why this product is labelled and sold as having an essential oil feature, but it most definitely doesn’t in reality as the absorbent block just sits in a cavity that connects to nothing but a tiny little screen of holes. Finally, as ultrasonic humidifiers go this one is actually VERY BADLY DESIGNED. The main design problem is that the tank is opaque which means that you can’t really tell when the water level is low other than when the humidifier runs out of water and the entire thing auto-shuts-off. This is super annoying because, for example, before going to sleep, I want to make sure that the humidifier will run through the night. So either I hope it does and it may or may not, or I have to physically lift the water tank and inspect the water amount. Most other models I’ve seen utilize a clear holding tank so it’s easy to see how much water remains (and I’ve since replaced this mexs with a Taotronics model that is a much better price and works much better). Also, the holding tank itself is fairly small in capacity (2.8 L), which seems like a lot, maybe, but the replacement I purchased (Taotronics) has a 3 L capacity, and overall, if you convert to cups, that’s basically a full cup more. Again, that might seem trivial, but if you’re using this in a bedroom, it actually is a big difference because from my experience, the Taotronic humidifier will last me all night, whereas the Avalon would stop during the night.

Owned a little less than two weeks but use it 5 days out of the week. I bought for my office desk as temperatures are either too hot or too cold in the office and was having nose bleeds, sinus infections, etc. Since I have begun using this product, no sinus infections, no nose bleeds. Going to purchase one or two more for my home. Having the essential oil box in the back of the machine is a fabulous benefit. Everyone at the office visits my space and tell me they can breathe so much better being in my area. Several co-workers have asked me to send them the information / link so they can purchase for their desk. It's a medium size machine, shaped like a teardrop and takes up little space but powerful ! Easy to use, set up and colors are fabulous. It's unique design and colors are very nice and the humidifier attracts it's own attention at the office. I fill with water in the morning when I arrive to work and empty before I leave in the late afternoon. A great plus to this humidifier is, if I were to forget and not turn off before I leave for the day the Avalon will automatically shut off when the water runs out / low. I totally made the right choice in picking this product. Avalon, the only question I have is where do you purchase those tiny felt pads for the essential oil box? :-) I will have to check Amazon! Thank you - so far exceeds all expectations!
Great humidifier but it "may" have a weakness in the inner plastic.

This is definitely quite, other than an occasional gurgle as the reservoir fills from the tank there's only a slight humming sound when operating. The scented oil feature is really nice and works quite well. I'm not sure how you would change scents as the oils never really are completely gone from the sponge but I don't plan on changing it anyway. The kids love the nightlight feature but I personally find it more of a distraction. Not to worry as you can change the colors as well as leave it off completely. For the most part the tank will last through an entire night but not at full power. Using medium to medium-high it makes it without a problem and that seems to make plenty of vapor. The only downside seems to be that the water tank is made of brittle plastic and the cap is easily overtightened and will leak. This took about 5 minutes of carful trial and error the first use but now is not a problem. I worry about the possible brittleness of the inner tank breaking at some point and don't like that a $50.00 item seems so brittle. However, I've used it continually for 2 weeks now and have not had a problem. If it cracks or leaks, or if the plug breaks, I will review my 4 star rating. For the record, the outer plastic is great. It seems sturdy and looks great. Overall, I like this and it was worth the price on Amazon.com assuming that the inner tank does not break.

Excellent product. It is easy to refill, operates quietly, and generates plenty of cool water mist. The output is variable, and if you don't like the color light effects, they can be turned off. It's water capacity is easily sufficient to last throughout the night and the output spout does well to blow the water mist into the room. The only complaint is that other than pointing out the location, the instructions do not cover how to use essential oils other than they say do NOT put it in the water reservoir. There is a little holder where I think you put the oil but I was not easily able to remove it and haven't pursued it. I actually like the notion of a separate reservoir as it keeps the main one from getting dirty as fast. In summary, this is the best humidifier I've owned and I have owned several. Big advantages: 1. Ultrasonic - cool mist, no heating elements to get mineral deposits on. 2. Large reservoir - lasts through the night 3. Variable output 4. Does not leak, at least not yet
Great Cool Mist Humidifier

Really wanted something smaller, but seems that any smaller really doesn't do much, so after reading MANY reviews, decided on this one. I am quite pleased with it. As to it's color when not turned on - it is definitely white (not lavender as reported by another review). The color lights was not something that I was looking for, so even though it works fine with a variety of colors - it's not something I will use. I like that I can turn the top to focus in the direction of my head (versus just spraying mist straight up into the air)..this top just literally lays on top, not attached in any way, so if used in a kids room they could easily remove it - to what harm I am not sure. I rinsed it out and filled it to nearly capacity and that lasted me two full evenings with the dial set at "half way" and provided an adequate amount of mist when placed on the cabinet next to my bed. I did use the little tray on the bottom for some essential oil (Breathe Blend by Healing Solutions: also purchased from Amazon.) I didn't find any extra "pads" as some reviews mentioned, except the one in the tray and I soaked it pretty good. I can even lightly smell the oil when the machine is not in use and when in use it is not overbearing, actually just right in my opinion. After the first night's use I did check for moisture under the unit and it was slight, so I now have it on a light weight dish towel and in subsequent checks it is not moist (but I'm leaving the towel when in use, just to be sure). To empty it the whole thing needs to be unplugged - yes the top part that you fill can be lifted up and emptied, but there remains some water in the base, so if you are wanting to be sure it is clean each refill, that part needs to be dumped & cleaned out as well. This was awkward as my electrical outlet was behind the headboard, so for easy access I had to use an extension cord. I do think it helps with my breathing (keeping the air ways moist). Even though I am not using the "color" programs, the unit still has a small "on" green light (and a light that turns red when the unit runs out of available water- even though there was still some water in the upper tank and the base area) and to avoid seeing that I simply turn the dial area away from my view. The unit was placed right on the edge of a cabinet next to the bed so there was sufficient moisture to leave the nearest pillowcase and sheet slightly damp, so might want to drape any furniture surface with a light dish towel. Not sure how effective the enclosed "ultrasonic filter" really is, but since I plan to keep the whole unit really clean I'm not too concerned with bacteria and we have really great well water as a bonus. It definitely is a "cool" mist which will be even more welcome in the spring & summer...kind of wish there was a way to make it warmer in the winter. Have only used for about 2 weeks, but so far very satisfied. Well packaged, easy to figure out how to use and speedy delivery =Thanks to Amazon. It also qualified as an "Amazon Smile" contribution item, really like knowing a little something goes to my church for most all my Amazon purchases!
BUY IT TO USE AS A HUMIDIFIER NOT FOR THE AROMATHERAPY

I received this cool mist humidifier at a discount for my honest review. Avalon Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier With Filter, Aroma Diffuser, 7 Bright Color LED Nightlights With Quiet Operation Technology, Auto Shutoff, ETL Safety Approved For Households With Children Well actually due to a mix-up with Amazon I received 2 of them. One at full price and one at the discounted price. I've read in some of the other reviews about the built-in filter rolling around inside the water tank. One person was actually holding it. Out of the two I received, 1 of them had this filter rolling around on the inside of the tank also. To me, that's a quality control issue. Having received 2, that means 50% shouldn't have passed. I consider it broken if I have to try and roll this thing around to catch it with my finger and pull it out of the tank. I didn't buy a puzzle. I bought a humidifier. The other thing is that the one that came with the filter attached properly fits too tightly. I will have to sand this down a bit otherwise I fear it will fall off and be in the tank. Maybe others didn't experience this problem with the filter. Whoever came up with the water drop design must have made a fortune because it seems that more and more products are mimicking it. It is more attractive for a large capacity humidifier than the medicinal looking ones. That being said, I found the plastic feeling somewhat on the brittle side and not particularly thick. So you get the look of the one being mimicked but obviously not the quality. Personally I think the aroma therapy portion is more of a gimmick than anything else to get you to buy it. I don't even see how that part is supposed to work. You might as well just put a few drops on a paper towel and let a fan blow over it. I think you'd have better results. Even that little drawer part isn't molded evenly on either unit I received. There is a tab on each side so that you are able to pull it out but the tab is not consistently molded. The left side tab on both units were thinner than the right side and not completely molded evenly. So in conclusion of this part of the review, if you want a aromatherapy diffuser, buy one dedicated for that purpose. I have several, in comparison to the quantity of water content, tiny but they work great for essential oils. That's what they were made for. This type the oil is dropped right into the water. Another thing I didn't care for was that in order to turn the led light off, you have to cycle through all of the colors. But on the other hand it does allow you to click through the colors quickly if you just want a certain color to stay on. My dedicated aromatherapy diffusers slowly rotate through the colors. If you want a particular color you have to wait for it to come up but if you want to shut it off, you just double click. Seems like there could be a better way for both. I do like the large capacity of this humidifier and the adjustability of the output mist as well as the ability to change the direction of the flow of the mist although I find this part awkward to take off. I stick my pinky finger in the hole to get it off. The entire water tank glows which is a nice night light for a child's room or even an adults if they'd like. The design is clean and simple and would blend in any room really. Because it's round, when you first get it, it may be confusing on how the top fits on the bottom. Just make sure the name on the water tank is facing in front by the controls. You should also be sure of where you want it because it's not recommended to be moved or if you do so, you have to empty the base. Only time will tell how this holds up. Buy it as a large a cool mist humidifier not for the aromatherapy.

Before choosing this unit, I spent a great deal of time pouring over reviews for cool mist humidifiers to find just the right one. I would have to say that for the past two weeks I have been very pleased with it. In addition to its effectiveness it is actually designed very well. It has rubber feet that will not damage anything it sits on, and helps keep it stationary. The mist nozzle can be pointed in any direction. Visually, it is very pleasing too. It has a nice shape and a quirky LED light show that is quite novel. It doubles as a scented oil diffuser which emits light fragrance; not overbearingly pungent, which is a double plus for folks with respiratory sensitivities. It is also extremely quiet; a far cry from the drug-store humidifiers I am used to. All in all I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it.

These are a great size to have in an apartment! My apartment is aboout 650 sq ft, so I bought 2 of these to cover it. I love that it was not only a Humifier but also a difuser. There is a little drawer on the side of the Humidifier that you can put essential oil in and it will make the area smell great. I have a lavendar that I wanted to try out before buying more of the essential oils. With this winter being very dry, it's caused me to have problems with my allergies and breathing. So not only will the humidifiers help with making it moist but I am also going to buy some oils that will help to promote better breathing and help with allergies as well. The one universal thing that drives me crazy about humidifiers is they take bottled water. Each one of these take about 1/2 gallon of water on a daily basis. They run a good amount of time on the lower setting but if I put them at the midway point, where I need it to help not have crusty eyes, dry mouth, and be a human defibulator with crazy static, it runs about a gallon of water a day. I think there might be a purifier I can add to the water but it's extra and having to buy gallons of water (especially with limited space and funds) is a huge hassle. Cleaning them is not too bad and while I won't put them up for summer, they dry pretty well too but it takes about 2 days to completely dry out. They are the perfect size though to fit on a window shelf inbetween my kitchen and living room for one and the other is on a small round table in my bedroom. I also LOVE the color changing lights! If only it didn't want fresh water daily. Disclaimer: I bought these while they were on sale.

The humidifier produces a decent amount of mist, adequate for the area around our California King Size bed, and hydrates the atmosphere sufficiently to effectively challenge the arid Arizonal air conditions that afflict our bedroom during winter months. A few drops of essential oil, deposited into a wee box at the side of the machine, are absorbed by a tiny piece of gauze like material and then the aroma is diffused into the mist, at first quite perceptibly, then after a while, in such a diminished capacity that it renders the scent neutralized and barely discernible to the olfactory sensors...a bit disappointing... Since we only employ the humidifier during our sleeping hours, we have rarely opted to utilize the changing light panoply spectrum facility thingy, except for entertainment purpose when we wake up; were we to do so, we would have to admit to being a little crestfallen by the rather sporadic sequence of color transferences, and especially the progression from its rather muted orange to a somewhat prematurely foreshortened red at the end of the rotation, which all too soon switches back to a lingering blue, thus preventing us from being able to savor the scarlet hue for more than a mere split second... Also, beware of getting the light bulb wet; I did on one occasion, during cleaning, and the color spectrum went berserk...couldn't make up its mind what color to radiate and contented itself with randomly issuing forth a variety of color washes in no particular order, and, moreover, it refused to extinguish itself, when I pushed in the pertinent switch, choosing rather to perform its convulsive dance for some 25 minutes, before finally surrendering to the off button. To its credit, it has survived its initial inconsistencies and has now established itself as a familiar and welcome nocturnal companion that gurgles quietly during the night imbuing its ambient mizzle into the immediate environs, as we sleep, moisturizing our complexions, and, to boot, infusing our personal inhalations with the aromatic fragrances, albeit somewhat nebulous, of eucalyptus and lavender... Frankly, having managed to overlook its imperfections and idiosyncrasies, we have grown accustomed to valuing its various attributes and now regard it as a reasonably esteemed acquisition within our household...
