mating parts did not line up

overall the look is what I wanted. its should have taken less than 5 minutes to assemble had the parts been correctly sized. The two side panels fit into the top with no problem, but when I tried to but the base on, the side panels were too wide. I had to plane and sand the side panels to get the base to slide on correctly. I spent a little over an hour fixing then cleaning up what should have been a simple assembly.
