Amazing Value Pencils
By IHeartArt on Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2017
As a life long artist and Adult Colorist, I have worked with a wide variety of brands of colored pencils and when I stumbled upon this set I purchased it based on the value per pencil. I have used many brands over the years from expensive Prisma's to budget pencils and when I received this set I was incredibly surprised by them since there was so little information about them. These pencils arrive in a cardboard box with 2 layers of pencils in them, they are organized by hue. The box itself has a color chart on the back of it which gives the name of each pencils along with the pencil number itself which is convenient. The pencils have colored barrels and a number printed on them however, they do not have the name printed on them which is why the chart on the back of the box is helpful. These are round barrel pencils with an open end and are pre-sharpened. Of the 60 pencils only a few of the leads were offset, which in my mind for budget pencils is incredibly impressive and zero leads were chipped or even cracked. The barrel color is very close to the actual color of the lead. The listing itself does not indicate if these are oil based or waxed base but based on my experience I feel these are indeed primarily waxed based but not as much wax as other pencils, they do have a small amount of bloom to them but not excessive and the leads are incredibly soft and creamy. The array of colors is nice, though I do wish there were more pastels in the set. I do not color with a heavy hand and some brands such as Sudee Stile, Colore' wood barrel and Marco's do require a greater amount of pressure to produce a rich color, these pencils do not and are very much akin to Prisma Color pencils in how they lay down, layer and and blend. These pencils do work well with alcohol blenders, oils and odorless mineral spirits and work well on smooth as well as textured paper. The only time I really noticed a blooming issues, again very faint at that, was when I used an alcohol blender. When building layers with just the pencils alone I did not notice any blooming issues. Because these are soft core pencils they do not keep a sharp point but they do sharpen without any wood fragmentation or breaks. I highly recommend these pencils, if you are a fan of soft cores and rich colors you won't be disappointed with them for general art and coloring. The only downside I have found is that I wish there were a larger set providing a wider array of colors and hues, but they are a fantastic compliment to my Prisma Color pencils. I can definitely see purchasing another set as backup as they are well worth the money

JUST a........ okay nothing special here
By MetalheadMissy and Jimmy on Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2017
These are just a--- okay... First up they lay down okay they seem very vibrant and colorful. They layer good. they blend okay . I don't use any chemical blending only the shading natural way of the pencils or blender pencils or colorless markers. So from what I know what do to with them they seem to be okay for adult coloring. there is no color name on barrel thats one con but nothing to cry over they coded them on the back of the box just clip if off throw it into your pencil box or pencil case if you're like me and intend to move them out of the cardboard box and into another container.that way you have your color palette with you at all times and make a separate color chart. I probably won't rebuy as there is no open stock available with this and the main draw back here it is ready.... wait for it......... THEY ARE VERY BRITTLE. thats the major drawback i have tried many cheap and inexpensive brands to some of the more premium ones and the prismacolors everyone rants about are better then these are far as breakage goes. I had to sharpen pencil no 054 olive green about 4 times kept breaking and anyone who watches my videos knows i am very gentle even when blending. burnishing . i am light handed on my pencils. some folks out there complain bout breaking yet may handle them like godzilla does a building. then there are us who use them light handed and are gentle and no matter what the lead is not as strong or as good.. These seem like they're marketed mostly towards adult coloring as many unfamliar brands are unlike some the more well known like even crayola or cra z art or rose art which are budget friendly up to the more pricier brands like caran d ache , faber castell, prismacolor etc. these seem mass produced as many brands are aimed at the adult colorist and maybe some of us 'artist too who dabble in coloring, sketching etc. mass produced with quality overlooked before it left the factory . .several of my pencils tips were broken . i would like to think and hope that was done by ups or shipping and not by the company in question . As the weak led of the 054 pencils i would like to and hope that was one the only ones like that . this one might of been one already broken upon recieving. I did use a xacto school pro as i do with all my pencils its the best performing sharpener out here that i am aware of designed for school use in thought lots of kids lots of pencils needed to be sharpened to thats why i bought it quality and brand name in mind it's excellent so i am not blaming that for the pencil's issue. i would not buy again and if you see my youtube video and instragram stuff eventually you know i might not be recommending these in the future i buy to try these and also to review .. i am self sponsored and no company sends me stuff for review i do it as a hobby and to find stuff I like for art and to let others know how it is before they buy it and what i think of it thank you for your time. I apologize for not having the best grammar but as always the right thoughts in mind so hope this comes out as good as possible thank you for looking in. buyer beware .
