Well made and perfect size

This is an excellent monitor stand. The wood is thick and sturdy and you simply attach four long screws to put it together. There is a spot for your coffee cup, pens, paper clips, post it notes and other office supplies. There is a spot to put your cell phone so you can easily see it to see who’s calling or copy off it. The stand is big enough that you can slide your keyboard under it along with your mouse. The top has plenty of room for your monitor and my wife even had enough room to put her Sound Bar behind it. The stand lifts the monitor up to a proper viewing height which is very nice. The wood color is exactly as it was pictured and is very attractive and expensive looking. There is a small cut out in back to hang your monitor cord (and sound bar cord if you have one.) Overall a very good quality item and my wife loves it.

Looks nice, feels nice, smells terrible

I'm very surprised to not see any reviews mentioning a bad smell. I've had this for a few weeks now, and it smells awful. I wouldn't be surprised at some off-gassing, I guess, but the smell still has not faded. The smell is sort of smoky, sort of chemical-y. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth just sitting in front of it for a while. The unit I received appeared to be new and unused, because the screw holes in the bottom had not yet had screws in them, so I don't think it could have acquired the smell from a previous buyer. I didn't want to go to the trouble to return it, because I figured the smell would fade, but now I'm wondering if I should return it. Since no other reviewers have mentioned a bad smell (only 2 who mentioned a good smell), maybe I've had extremely bad luck and gotten a bad unit...? Other than the smell, it's pretty nice. It feels nice to the touch, easy enough to assemble, and reasonably sturdy. But I don't know if I can tolerate this smell for much longer.
