Makes calibrating the oven so much easier!
By Stover on Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2018
I mainly bought this thermometer to calibrate my oven. I got a new stove with a double oven several years ago and it was off horribly. We called in to have it calibrated but the tech didn't even do it right. I went through the headache and expense of buying different thermometers until my brother who works in heat and air told me to get a unit with a probe. I bought one at the store (different brand) and it was off by about 3 degrees from the start. It was the best I found at the time so I dealt with it. It was just a basic digital probe unit. It didn't have preset temps, graphs, or Bluetooth and I think I paid around $20-$30 for it. (Too much) I thought I got the oven all calibrated but I guess I didn't. For the past year or so I knew the top oven wasn't heating up right and the bottom seemed to take longer to cook than I felt was right. It was getting frustrating. I pulled out the store thermometer and was going to start taking down the temps to calibrate them. During one of the cool down times I left it in the oven and when we went to cook dinner it melted the silicone wire cover. So I started shopping for a new one. I found this one. As soon as I got it out if the package I put it in ice water and it was right on the money. I was floored I finally found one that was accurate! Let me tell you the temperature graph on this thing made calibration so easy. I made my own preset temp for 350 and watched the graph. I found my top oven off by about 20 degrees. After the preheat cycle I wrote down the lowest and highest temps. After I got a good average of where it was I adjusted it up till the range was right. I don't need to tell you everything this little thermometer can do because it says it all in the product description. I'm just going to say I was expecting another subpar thermometer from my experience of buying several but was pleasantly surprised. I am glad we melted the old thermometer because I got this one out of it. Also I don't have to worry about this one melting since it is metal. All in all it may not be the cheapest thermometer but trust me when I say you get what you pay for. I am looking at getting another for a dirty santa gift for the grillers, smokers, & campers in the family.

Accuracy in question
By C. Haglund on Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2022
I bought this Bluetooth temperature probe for cooking on my new pellet grill/smoker. The range seems to be roughly 50 feet through a couple walls at best. When I am cooking on my deck in back and go out to my garage in front, I lose my temperature signal. This is not problematic for my use though. I have had issues where the temperature probes were reading off by over 40*F; which was bothersome. This was revealed when using two other non-Bluetooth meat probes in conjunction with the NutriChef unit. It was a bit disconcerting to not find any troubleshooting information on this in the owners manual; nor any way to calibrate the unit for accurate readings. Through some Googling searches, I found a tip that these temperature probes can become water/moisture contaminated; which throws off their accuracy. Having washed the probes and wires in soapy water between cookings, I suspected this was the root of my problem. I took the tip offered online to bake probes and wires in an oven safe dish at 250* for a couple hours. This is supposed to dry the moisture out of the wires and hopefully restore the accuracy of the probes. In my case it seemed to work. After the drying treatment, the NutriChef Bluetooth unit was again with 2* of my alternate meat thermometers. So if you buy this unit, be careful to wash ONLY the metal probes and not the connecting wires. ADDENDUM: Since discovering the hazards of getting the probe wires wet, I've taken extra care and precautions to ensure that I only wash the probe tips and keep the wires dry at all times. And despite that, the probes continue to display erratic and majorly erroneous readings. While smoking pork loins the other day, I set up two probes. One was working well and read 68* there in my kitchen, which was accurate. The other probe was fluctuating between 135-146*. There is no way to calibrate the probes and unit; and there is no way to ensure that this unit stays accurate. THEREFORE I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DEVICE.
