Not near as good as previous Dyson, DC33, which was rock solid.

Overall I'm very disappointed with my new Dyson, Dyson Ball Multi Floor Origin. It's not all bad news. First the good news. It's more maneuverable in small spaces as compared to my previous Dyson DC33 model which I bought circa 2011 and still have, thank goodness. My new Dyson may be a little lighter, but not much. The new Dyson works great on some carpets/rugs (not all, see below) and wood floors Now for the bad news. For a 10 year newer Dyson model, there really should be no bad news, which is the worst news of all. 1. The suction is too strong on low pile carpets or area rugs. It sucks the rug into the vacuum like a blood sucking leech. Once it does this, the once spinning bristles just stop spinning. At this point, I start to smell a burning motor/electric smell. Now I have to turn the vacuum off to get it to detach its eager lips from my rug/carpet. For a company like Dyson which prides itself on state of the art engineering, this is bad. None of this was ever a problem (and still isn't) using my good ol' DC33 on the same carpets/rugs. I'm testing them side by side on the same carpet/rugs now. 2. It's really hard to find the serial number or model number on the unit. It was easy on the DC33. It just said it bold font on the outside. Why make a model/serial number search so hard? Hint: If you're looking for it, you have to detach the debris cannister. Who made such a decision at Dyson? 3. Support is honest but the bedside manner is lacking. Here is what they tell you if call in and describe the above "hard to push" problem to them. Apparently they get a lot of these calls as their response reads like a prepared statement. You can also just google terms like "Dyson sucks too hard" or "Dyson hard to push". You'll get a litany of hits and suggestions but ultimately there is no fix. No, adjusting the bottom piece doesn't help as some youtube videos claim. You can also find this out on the support page of dyson.com for this model. Even if I had did my research, I wouldn't have expected this to be a problem on my carpets/rugs, given my previous two Dyson's worked great. "There is no adjustment. It's a very strong vacuum. You should have called us before you bought the vacuum and we could have suggested another model. Since you are a registered Dyson user, you could have also received a discount." I told them I bought it off Amazon. They said, well, you can try to call them and see what they can do. That didn't exactly inspire confidence. Of course, I just want a working vacuum cleaner, not an exercise in calling support or repackaging and mailing things back at my expense. Dyson may very well still have some excellent products out there as well as great people working at the company. But my new Dyson was a giant leap back. Finally, all hope is not lost. If you are like me and feel stuck with your new Dyson, there is a fix...kind of, mostly. There is an after-market fix you can apply if you are willing to spend an hour or two fiddling around and maybe $5 for parts. That's what I did and it made a huge difference. There is a good 4 min, 15 second youtube video entitled, "Dyson vacuum is hard to push - easy fix" on a youtube channel called SDGTRLVR. His video is excellent, explaining step-by-step what to do. I can at least use my vacuum on all rugs thanks to his video. It's still a bit hard to push but it at least it doesn't latch onto rugs and not let go as before.
