Received the Best of the Reviews I Read

Wow did I have a hard time choosing a dehu with the wide range of reviews: 1. Packaging - 5 Stars - I was concerned about the negative reviews from customers who received damaged units. Mine was shipping in a box within a box, so it was received in perfect condition. 2. Quietness - 5 Stars - The reviews I read about the noise level being compared to a box fan are correct except that the pitch is a little higher (the pitch is closer to an in-window air conditioning unit). The noise levels are similar to my box fan at low, medium, and high respectively; however the noise is heard a bit further due to the noise pitch of this unit being higher, but normal conversation would be fine at all fan speeds. 3. Hygrometer - 5 stars - I was concerned about the reviews I read about the hygrometer being 25% off. However, I wasn't too concerned about this feature since it is measuring the air around the unit which has had the moisture removed. I don't know if there were unit modifications, but my unit reads 45% humidity and my hygrometer 10 feet away reads 46%. 4. East of Use - 5 stars - This literally is lift out of the box, plug it in, turn on the power. It turns on automatically in the continuous use mode which the guide recommends using for the first 24 hours. The water collector is very easy to remove and empty. The downsides of this unit is that when you take out the water bucket, water still drips as it has already condensed. I also tried turning off the unit for 3 min before removing the water, but it still dripped. The drips are inside the water container storage area and did not leak on my floor, but it something of which to be aware. I have not let it fill completely on it's own yet to hear the alarm sound. With the unit being on the floor, and the water collection at the bottom, it's not like you're gonna be able to see the water fill amount indicator unless you squat down to look. 5. Dehumidification - 5 stars - I live in a dry climate, but a home with moisture issues. The indoor temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit . The unit's starting hygrometer reading was 60% and it pulled a lot of water and reached 45% where it has stayed and continues to pull a good amount of water. I have emptied the water into my plant watering container and used it to water my plants. My laminate floors no longer feel moist. For those with a 2 story home, I would recommend a 2nd unit for the upstairs. I feel this unit covers my kitchen/dining room/living room but do not feel that it makes a difference for the upstairs. 6. Aesthetics - 4 stars - The unit is compact and a crisp white color. Living in a home with dark wood and colored walls, I would have preferred a darker color. The unit is recommended to have 18 inches of clearance from walls, so it's not something you can tuck out of the way. My black lab's hair also clings to the side of the unit as if there is a static electricity charge to it, but brushes away easily. 7. Quality for Price - 5 stars - This was very reasonable priced compared to the other units of similar size and capacity. I feel that I have received a quality product for the money I paid. **i do NOT use the continuous drainage, nor did i test it.

Nice features, nice contruction but a piece of junk.

I am writing about TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifer #3. The longest lived machine I've had to date was 1-1/2 years. The present unit prompting this review lasted from July 6th 2023-- to May 20th 2024. I purchased insurance policies on the last two units (#2 & #3). I like the dehumidifier's features-- remembers settings after power outage-- so can continue on the job unattended after the power's restored. Has an internal automatic drain pump (although the drain hose attachment mechanism is horrible), plenty of dehumidifying capability for small home, and relatively quiet. The unit is nicely constructed-- removing the covers, internals are all well laid out and at first glance it looks like a quality build and design. But so much for appearances. I purchased TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifer #1 to replace a 50 year-old SEARS brand which was still going strong ( and now back on the job). I need a dehumidifer that can run unattended--an internal water pump to automatically empty the machine and automatic power out restore is essential. The old SEARS unit offers a choice of a catch pan or a drain hose connection. Manual emptying became a problem very quickly-- thus prompting the purchase of the TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifier. All three machines failed in the same way-- the dehumidifying capacity diminished to nearly zero. No error codes, no faults just no dehumidifying action from the machine. An initial analysis seems to indicate that the capillary metering tube in the refrigeration system clogs reducing the refrigerant flow through the system. The refrigeration system remains stable- it's just that there is very little refrigerant flow so the start of the evaporator ices up and the condenser warms dissipating the absorbed heat. I haven't dissected the dehumidifier yet to see if there's an inherent design flaw. It could be that the compressor has a tendency to self-destruct thus flooding the refrigeration system with debris that ends up clogging a filter or the tiny diameter capillary tube. Who knows... Since I have to rely on a dehumidifier to control room humidity replacing the humidifier as if it were a short-term consumable is unacceptable no matter what the warranty or insurance policies provide for. Maybe you will be luckier with the TOSOT reliability-- but now with a potential 4th machine I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong (besides putting the TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifier to work)...

A Solid Mid-Range Workhorse

I had originally purchased another model dehumidifier, a smaller and more entry-level option, but I found that it didn't quite meet my needs. I have a small house at right around 1,300 square feet that tends to run incredibly humid and found myself experiencing more moisture than usual. So, it was time for another dehumidifier. I ordered the TOSOT only a couple of days before I had a small water pipe burst that caused even more moisture. The TOSOT is designed to dehumidify effectively up to 1,500 square feet and 30 pints per 24 hours. It's Energy Star qualified and advertised as a quiet model. It has a feature that allows for continuous drain, though you have to buy the hose separately - I did not do that. The bucket is removable and can be manually drained. The dehumidifier stops automatically when full. After 250 hours of continuous usage, the air filter will signal a need to be cleaned. Once you clean and re-install it, the signal goes away. I'll be honest and say I'm close to giving it a 4-star rating as I think it mildly underperforms in terms of actual capacity. However, I'm opting to go ahead and stick with a 5-star review because I think in virtually every other way this is a solid mid-range workhorse that does almost everything else it's supposed to do. The dehumidifier is, indeed, very quiet. I used it in two different places in my home. When I had it in my hallway, I couldn't hear it at all in the front of my house. It's certainly not disruptive in any way. It is Energy Star qualified and functions as promised. Almost exactly after 250 hours of continuous use, you get the signal it's time to clean the air filter. The TOSOT was easy to get operational even for someone who's not exactly technically minded. I also had an easy time removing both the bucket and the air filter. If you have fine motor skill issues, you might have some difficulty with the air filter because of the angle required to remove and replace it. While I think the capacity promised is a bit higher than performance level, the TOSOT is still impressive and easily operated for my continuous need and performed quite nicely. My recommendation would be that given its size it works best as a floor model, though it might work on a sturdy shelf. Because it's more mid-size, it doesn't necessarily blend in with decor. However, I found it worked fine in my hallway and at one point in the corner of a room. Overall, I'm quite happy with the purchase and would easily buy the make and model again. I probably needed a little bit more capacity than this model, but for moderate humidity issues this model definitely performs well, is durable, and delivers as advertised.
Looks nice, fairly quiet, works well for an NYC apartment.

Volume I've had this for today months. It's energy efficient and quiet on medium and low settings. On high it's about as loud as my AC on low. At about 3 feet away it measures at 63-67db. It's really not much different than the sound of a good quality fan in my observation. Performance It's 90% humidity outside at 71F today at sea level. The unit has my bedroom at 35% after about 3 hours of continuous use today. My bedroom is 12'x18'. Typically I have it running 24/7. At this temperature and humidity level I would have to empty the tank once per day. I would suggest emptying thre tank before you sleep so as not to be woken by the full alarm which is high pitched and loud. Notes. The water tank has a fold down handle attached inside of the tank. It seems sturdy enough for occasional use but with regular use I would suggest using the handle only to carry the water tank to wherever you decide to dump the water and not hold onto the handle while you're dumping the water. The joints that connect the handle to the tank cover don't look like they could handle the torque forced on them for long --so hold the tank by the bottom and sides if it's full. I only use this in the bedroom and it works to my satisfaction. I'm sure it would be adequate for an entire 800 sqf apartment in less humid locations (or higher altitude). However, if you live near the water or on an island you might have to get multiple units or a larger one if you're looking to get to 20% humidity. So far I've only been able to get to 20% when the humidity level outside was at about 50% which is rare for NYC summers. I'll keep you apprised of any updates. On the highest fan setting it DOES put out warm-hot air but if you lower the fan setting, that brings exhausted air down to cooler than room temperature. I hope this review is helpful. Cheers!

We've had this dehumidifier for over a year now. We purchased this unit primarily because it was touted as 'quiet' and we needed it in our bedroom. The unit does dehumidify very nicely, but I cannot agree with the 'quiet'. First off, once the bucket fills it beeps loudly 20 times. These beeps cannot be turned off- not quiet. For those of you who dismiss the beeps- BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP. It is excessive. Second, regardless of the fan setting, the unit has a part of the cycle where the compressor turns off with a clunk and the fan goes to high (defrost?)- also not quiet. We run it almost constantly from late spring through fall. We are currently looking to buy another dehumidifier (hoping to get one that is actually quieter so we can use the new one in the bedroom and this one in another space) and we would buy this again if we don't find another that is actually quieter. (although I may open it up to find the speaker and cut the wire!)

I’ve had this dehumidifier for almost six weeks. The air in my house is so much more comfortable with humidity staying around 50-55% according to my 2 digital hygrometers. I’m in Florida where most people have at least 1 humidity meter and we learn to take humidity seriously because mold damage happens and can easily get out of hand if you don’t address it. I had a mold problem in the past so I know. I moved here from Ohio where we didn’t have this issue. I learned that my air conditioner wasn't enough. Even when the old AC gave up the ghost and I had a new Bryant unit installed, I still couldn’t get the humidity below 60%, which is where “they” say mold starts to grow. My house is only 1260 square feet so this one unit can do the whole house but I have to keep it running continuously on high. It really does pull out the humidity. I have to empty the bucket at least 4 times a day, and this has been going on every day for 6 weeks and we’re not even in the high humidity time of year. It’s amazing to me that the exterior walls of my house aren't better at keeping the humidity out. I am concerned that this dehumidifier is not going to last long running 24 hours a day so I recently ordered a larger unit made by another company which will become my main dehumidifier and this one will become my backup and be used in an 18x22 room where it can cycle on and off. I know my utility bill will suffer by having 2 units. Right now with just this one it’s costing about a dollar more a day than it was last March, so another unit is going to add to that but neither will be running continuously. Still feel it’s worth it. Not just for the mold prevention but the air quality. Also I thought I had started having night sweats when I moved here because most mornings I used to wake up with the neck area of my pajamas damp but that has stopped since I’ve been using this! PS: Humid air rises, I discovered that it works much more efficiently if it’s up off the floor. I have mine on an old chair. I plan on using a drain hose when I move it because it will be close to a shower drain. Also the pic is showing 45% but my humidity meters are showing 49 and 51. I think my readings are more accurate because there’s no air moving near my meters, where I think their meter might be affected by the blower fan in this unit.

I have had the dehumidifier for a bit over two weeks now working in our basement/ex-garage (this ground level end is now closed-in with an insulated wall). I have the dehumidifier set at 55% and it is nicely holding the humidity down in our partially finished basement (about 1300 sq. ft. w/7 1/2' ceilings divided into 3 equally-sized rooms connected by 30" doors, insulated and sheetrocked walls, and concrete flooring w/throw rugs). The room that has the unit stays at 50 to 55% humidity (the unit shuts down at 50% and re-starts at 55%) . The adjacent laundry room does rise to about 61% humidity when laundry is being done, but soon drops down again to about 58% after the laundry is done. The unit runs quietly. After initially running it Non-Stop for 24 hours (recommended by manufacturer, there is a NS setting on the humidity control), I placed an amp/watt/voltage meter in line with the power cord for a couple of days and it indicated that it was using about 10 Kwh/day of electricity (drawing about 5.3 amps when compressor running, not sure of any surge when it starts) while holding the basement humidity steady. The pump works great, automatically emptying the condensate into our downstairs sink when the unit's drain bucket fills (I first tested it into a 5 gal. bucket to be sure it works. Seeing is believing...). I'm glad that I knew ahead of time about pressing the hose-connector's rim when removing the plug for the pump drain and when inserting the 1/4" drain hose for the pump-to-sink connection. This hook-up method MAY be a weak point if someone somehow tugs hard on this drain hose or does not know to press in on this rim when removing the hose, and maybe breaks something. I attached a 3M "command" hook on the unit near the hose and tied the hose to that hook to act as a sort of a "strain relief", which makes me feel better. All and all, I am quite satisfied with this unit for the time that I've had it and would buy it again. QUICK UPDATE: I still rate the dehumidifier as excellent, but I learned that if you run the pump hose to a drain, make sure that the hose is well fastened to that drain. I have it run to the drain trap of a downstairs sink, and initially didn't think to securely tape the hose to the sink. As a result, the pressure from the discharging water eventually pushed the hose out of the drain, resulting in a floor full of water. So, some nice looking duck tape has fixed that problem...

I really like this dehumidifier. I have only been using it for a about 6 days but it has done a great job in that time. I live in a small studio apartment - 300 square feet. I got the 50 pint because the humidity is extremely high (80+) and an ongoing problem. And I just wanted to be sure my bases were covered. It is very easy to use. The manual was easy to understand and straightforward. The water tank is as large as I expected - not so big as to make it hard to empty, not so small that it has to be emptied annoyingly often (for me). I empty the tank about twice in 24 hours. It is a lot less loud than my old dehumidifier. That being said - it was still loud enough that I had trouble sleeping with it about 5 ft from my bed. I solved the problem by moving it farther away - down my hall about 10 feet. Now I sleep just fine. For reference, my old dehumidifier was 60 decibels. This one is 52 on highest fan speed, and 48 on lowest. In searching for a dehumidifier, noise level was the biggest issue for me. This is the only company I found that listed the decibel rating of their product. I am pleased with the sound level. In normal daily conversation it is not intrusive at all. I live in south Texas - so I need the dehumidifier basically year round. The apartment I live in has new construction but had trouble with mold in the past. I want to prevent that from being a problem again, as I am severely sensitive to it. What else...? It’s done great for me so far. The company sent me an email offering support should I ever need it. It’s sleek looking. It vents up - which I quite like. The water tank has a handle - which is nice. It pulls a lot of water - which is what you want a dehumidifier to do! It stays around 45-55% now and had been at 88% humidity for a long time. The casters roll smoothly. I don’t yet know whether it is energy efficient. It probably is. The humidity readout has been accurate so far. Oh yes - there was a strong plastic smell while it was running at first. It worried me a lot at first. But It really only lasted the first 24 hours. I wore nose filters to bed and when I woke the next day the smell was much better. The day after that it was almost entirely gone. And now I don’t smell it at all. Ok, I think that’s it. Hope this helps someone.
Product works very well.

After getting a hygrometer which was reading 80% humidity in my small apartment (310 sq ft) I decided to pop on a dehumidifier. Not knowing a whole lot more other than I needed one I took a quick, semi in depth dive and came up with these requirements I wanted one to have: • EnergyStar rated • On casters - for easy movement • Option to attach a hose for continuous drain • No bigger than 30L (Most consumer dehumidifiers are 30L, 50L and 70L. This measurement refers to how much water they can take out of the air in a given period of time. I'm guessing on the "high" setting for a 24 hr. period. I was looking in the 30L range as this fit my budget and allowed for storage.) • Had some modern styling (again, small apt., so it's out) I couldn't be happier with this Tosot. Within a couple of hours the humidity in my apt. was down to the low 50's. I need to run it pretty often but it keeps the humidity in a programmable range I'm comfortable with as verified with that separate (from the unit) hygrometer I first bought. It was shipped in the manufactures packaging, but arrived safe and sound despite a couple of dinged corners and scuffed up box. Set up was a breeze and it was dehumidifying within 10-15 minutes of getting it home. I'm emptying the water reservoir once a day proactively. It's only stopped because it was full twice, but this feature works perfectly, alerting with several loud beeps that it's full. It's also got an indicator light for this. My only criticism of the product is the noise level of the fan. Even on low, it's obvious it's on and makes listening to music or watching a movie a bit challenging - IMO. I also sleep with it on and have had to start wearing earplugs (common city solution to extraneous noises). All in all, I'm very satisfied with the purchase. It's absolutely done everything it's advertised to do. Set up was easy and it starts working immediately. I wish is were quieter, but it's doing the job of dehumidifying my apartment perfectly. Oh, haven't received a power bill since getting it so not sure what impact it's had there.

This is a very quiet dehumidifier! I bought it for our basement but tested it in our un-air conditioned (upstate NY) house first, thinking if it does well I’ll get another one. It has been a very wet July here, making everything super damp (even my bed sheets feel wet) and humid. The dehumidifier removed a TON of water, every couple of hours I was dumping the bucket out. When I first turned it on it showed humidity at 80%. The instructions say to leave it on a constant for the first 24 hours, it took a bit of time but eventually the humidity level got down to 65% however because it blows warm air out it also made the house a bit too warm for my liking. I ended up turning it off and opening the windows back up - it was very wet outside but at least there was a bit of a (cooler) breeze. Maybe if you have an AC or a fan going along with the dehumidifier but if you have AC, you most likely have a dehumidifier option on it? This unit is doing great in my unfinished wet and cold cellar/basement though! Again it started at 80% humidity when I turned it on, working all night long on low setting it only got down to 70% the next morning. It felt much better in there already though. I have it drain through a garden hose into our sump pit. It is VERY quiet. Whereas I would hear our old dehumidifier turn on down in the basement, I can’t hear a thing with this one. In the house I had it going on Medium, sitting right in our living room and it still was very, very quiet, sort of like an oscillating fan.
