easy clean litter box

My cat is nine years old, and this will be the second one of these products that I've bought. They are so easy to use! I needed to get a new one because the previous one lasted for the first eight and a half years. The clip eventually stopped working to hold it shut, but considering how long it lasted, it was well worth it.

Easy, imperfect.

Update: honestly, I don't roll this anymore. My cat is a long boi, and was occasionally pooping outside the box on accident because he felt confined. We ordered a giant box elsewhere and he loves it. I'll probably get rid of the OmegaPaw one after it gets worn. Also, while we're unsure how his paw pad got hurt, I hope it wasn't from scraping the grate because he's a voracious litter-thrower and may not have expected the grate there. Perhaps I was lucky to have a well-adapted cat, but he took to this box rather immediately. I was concerned he'd be scared of the cover because the shelter didn't use a cover. Additionally, they barely gave him any wood pellets in there, but we are using clumping 4-in-1 from Tidy Cats. That litter works sufficiently. This is such a great idea, and no doubt one we'll see expanded and improved upon now it's out in the world. However there were some features that could be remedied with adjustments. 1) The grate part (that the sand goes through we you roll it) is supposed to "fit" in between these two tabs on the bottom of the box. Well, there's no method for locking them into place, so every time a roll it, it becomes dislodged and the grate kinda moves wherever it wants. I want to keep it in place!!! 2) Relatedly, the same grate piece appears intended to fit flat on the right side of the box, below where the scoop goes. Well, because of problem discussed in 1), the box lid doesn't FIT RIGHT and using the clips to hold it closed doesn't work well. Since both of these issues stem from that grate part, I either received a janky product or it's needing improvement. Honestly if these 2 parts were addressed, I would edit this to 5*. 3) Lastly, and this is my error not one on part of the company, please be warned the drawer that collects the faeces lacks a wall on the end, in order to make pouring into garbage easier. In my frustrated dealing with the clips [see 1) and 2) above], I had rolled the box and then took off the top, which tilted the scoop and spilt the whole drawer contents on the floor. I learnt from the ordeal, and hopefully this tragic tale can help someone else. Omega Paw! If the problems above do not sound like they're typical of your products, feel free to reach out to me and I'd be happy to hear a solution and will change this review because the idea itself is very good and I wish to support innovation as such.

We cam across this by chance. It came into our Church thrift shop that my wife manages. We had just adopted 2 black kittens from the shelter after our cat Marley passed a while ago. We had set up 2 rather large litter boxes for them, quite a lot of work. We did not realize at the time this was a "normal size box. But we gave it a try, nothing to lose.. Both of them adapted almost immediately to the change of having one box instead of 2. We went ahead and purchased this "mate" for the original we have now in case they get fussy later, but it looks like both are perfectly happy, they are about half grown now.. So literally yes, it takes about 30 seconds to do. A couple of tries and you see how it works and you adapt to process. Shake it a bit as you roll it to the right side, you can hear the clumps fall into the scoop, a little shaking on the way to the other side that puts the non clumped litter back in the bottom, and your done. scoop slides out with clumps, into the bag they go. We were shocked . So our experience is great. 2 cats sharing a "normal size" box with no problem. I'm a huge skeptic, but I'm highly impressed. One thing they could improve. The actually clever "catch" they put on the opening does collect litter from their paws as they use it, It tends to dump the catchings on the floor when you turn it sideways. I just tilt the box up a bit in front, tap the bottom of the catch and the litter drops back in the box and then I continue to roll it. Maybe a Hinge of some kind that you could flip up before turning it would help that, but its not a deal breaker. Much nicer and it does seem to keep the odor down quite a bit, I'm thinking the cover prevents some airflow. That's our experience so far, so good. t

Horrible Product w/ Detailed Breakdown

Using this litter box has been a complete disaster, and it's not because I don't know how to use this litter box. In fact, we owned and used another Omega Paw Roll 'n Clean litter box, in a large size, for several years before recently purchasing this smaller one. Here is everything that was wrong with this new one we bought: 1) After received and piecing it together, the "Omega Paw" logo that's on top of the entry hole of the litter box fell off. It had warped in shape and the adhesive is weak, so it just fell right off. This isn't a big deal and it doesn't affect the functionality of the litter box, but it was a red flag that, upon arrival, this brand new item was already starting to fall apart. 2) I noticed that the parts (litter box, top/hood, and the patented sifting grate i.e. screen) didn't fit well and tightly together. Another red flag, which I'll talk more about later. 3) Because the different pieces were wobbly, warped, and didn't all fit snugly/tightly together, when using the litter box's "roll 'n clean" function to screen out the cat waste, litter would fall through the cracks and out onto my floor. 4) THIS IS BY FAR THE BIGGEST PROBLEM, WHICH RENDERED THIS BOX PRACTICALLY USELESS: Within 1 or 2 days of use, the inside sifting grate i.e. screen, which is the part of the design that makes this a "self-cleaning" litter box (I'll say a word about this later, too) and the entire reason why people buy these "roll 'n clean" litter boxes in the first place, came loose so that it wouldn't "self-clean." Subsequently, within the next few days, this happened several more times, pretty much about every other time I used it to screen out the cat waste... not only does this defeat the whole purpose and functionality of this "roll 'n clean" litter box, but it's actually a HUGE pain and disgusting to unclamp the top, remove it, scoop out or move aside the dirty litter to expose the notches on the bottom of the litter box where the grate fits into, re-insert the grate, re-secure the flap that's attached to into its place, and then reattach and clamp down the top/hood again. After using my previous Omega Paw Roll 'n Clean litter box for a couple of years, it had started to do the same thing. I always thought it was maybe just due to wear & tear, so I figured that by A) buying a brand new one, and B) a smaller one (i.e. less volume & weight of litter to sift, less stress on the moving parts, etc.), this would not be an issue at all. Nope. This started happening literally within the first few uses, within 1 or 2 days of starting to use this brand new unit. Seriously? 5) A few notes on these "Roll 'n Clean" litter boxes in general, even if they're working properly (as my first one did for a couple of years)... A) to call these litter-boxes "self-cleaning" is a bit silly and not all that accurate. To operate and use the "roll 'n clean" feature, it's actually quite labor-intensive to get down on your knees, grab this litter box on its two sides, roll it over beyond 90 degrees to the right to get the litter sifted by the grate and the cat waste into the pull-out tray, and then roll the litter box back to the left and give it a few shifts to get the litter to even/level out again on the bottom of the box. If you know how heavy most cat litter is, to do this a couple times a day is actually very labor-intensive and requires a decent amount of strength (for example, a frail old lady/man who lives by herself/himself may find it too difficult of a daily task; in fact, I've read some reviews on these products that it's not practical or even safe for the elderly to use this without help, and I completely agree), and takes a lot more strength and effort than simply scooping out the litter from a conventional litter box. So again, to call this a "self-cleaning" litter box when it takes more effort and strength to operate it, is quite laughable and disingenuous. B) whenever I operate it, invariably litter will fall out of the hole where the pull-out tray fits into, out of the entry-way for the cat, and in the case of my faulty new unit, even through the poorly fit together "seal" between the hood and the litter box. In other words, litter often gets everywhere all around the litter box. C) Also, due to the fact that, to operate this litter box, you need to roll the box back and forth, you actually need roughly 2.5 times the amount of space that the box itself takes up. That's a lot of space to use and operate this thing, as opposed to most conventional (or non-conventional) litter boxes that are stationary and don't require more space than its own dimensional footprint to use/operate. IN SUMMARY: The new one I just bought (and will be returning) is faulty and practically unusable, and the quality and integrity of this item are horrible. Furthermore, calling and advertising this item as "self-cleaning," as far as I'm concerned, is misleading and deceptive. And lastly, even if/when they're working properly, it actually takes more time, strength, and hassle to use these "roll 'n clean" litter boxes compared to conventional litter boxes. My recommendation is against buying these and dealing with all these issues, but if you still try to give them a try, caveat emptor.

This box is SUPER EASY to clean, and I have already ordered a second one for my two cats! I LOVE this style of litter box; it's the best I've ever used, and I've been hunting for an easy-to-use. easy-to-clean solution since I first bought my Luuup Litter Box System. This is cheaper and SO MUCH EASIER to use! If your cats are Large (esp. 12lbs / 5.4 kg) or dislike enclosed spaces, this box is not going to be something they like. (If you're not sure if they will use an enclosed litter box, get a cardboard box or two and "enclose" one litter box and leave one open. If the "enclosed" litter box remains unused, don't bother buying an enclosed litter box; but if you are going to get an enclosed litter box, THIS IS THE ONE!) SET UP: Put the screen down so that it's between the brackets on the bottom of the box and the solid portion should form a "shelf" toward the right of the box. Snap the lip into place by bringing it up from below the opening, add litter, put the top on, close the clamps that hold it shut (plastic or chromed plastic), insert the little drawer, and you're good to go! (I broke the box a little bit trying to put the little lip on it because I didn't read the directions when I was setting it up, but that should give you an idea of how easy it is to set up.)
Not worth the hefty price

I wanted to like this litter box. I really thought it was a great idea. I think the concept is great but it needs some work. First of all there are some cheap plastic parts like the locks that are “silver”. They make me worry that they will not last and when you are rolling a heavy litter box, you really don’t want flimsy plastic securing it so you risk having to clean litter and cat droppings, you get the point…. Secondly- it doesn’t hold a lot of litter, hardly enough for an adult cat, at least my cats like plenty of litter , and as some people have mentioned, it is rather small. My kittens fit fine but my adult cat will not use it. The drawer to collect waste is so small it gets jammed often, which makes a huge mess, because 4 kittens using it , even at the end of a single day, will clog it so upon opening it and it is jammed, it tends to make a mess. I do find it heavy to roll, litter is heavy to begin with. I guess I didn’t anticipate that factor. It isn’t terrible, but it takes effort. Overall, I don’t find it worth the $40. If it was bigger, and better made, I would probably enjoy it. If it was bigger and hard to roll I would imagine a better system, maybe the outer shell of the litter box could stay out but the inner litter box could rotate, maybe with a lever. Idk. It has a good concept and I wish it worked better. This is just my opinion. I think if it has some upgrades it could be great.

I bought this litter box as an extra, and loved it so much I replaced my original litter box with a second one of these. My cats use this without any problems in terms of size. The covered style has greatly reduced the amount of litter they scatter. I am able to completely clean the litter box in less than 30 seconds. My 10 year old can now effectively clean the litter as well. The drawer that pulls out to dispose of the used litter fits perfectly into the litter genie receptacle, if you have one of those. The one drawback is that the drawer doesn’t go all the way to the back of the unit. So, sometimes when I clean the litter, some debris will end up back in the clean side of the litter, because it falls into the space behind the drawer. For me, this isn’t a huge deal, and it doesn’t happen every time. When I first got these, they were easy to assemble, and I’ve had to trouble taking them apart to wash them at all. At first, the latches didn’t seem to want to close easily, but over time they’ve fit better and take less effort than they did initially; I’m not sure why. Highly recommend, would definitely buy again!

Overall, this is a good litter box. With the it being enclosed it provides the cat with both the privacy they want and helps keep litter in the box when they try to kick it across the room to cover something that is right next to them. The design for scooping out the poop is great; it is as simple as rolling over the container slowly. This gets most of the dirty litter into the slide out scoop so you can just deposit it all in the trash. Setting it up is quick and painless. It is a just a few minutes from opening the box until your cat can spoil the insides. The liter filter and poop catcher have but one obvious position to sit in, plus there is a video if needed on the site. The lid takes a little finessing to get into place and engage the clips. After use over time, I have noticed a few things: First, this works well for most days, as long as your liter does its job, rolling the box over gets most of it out. Second, due to the shape of the poop catching scoop, if you cat does its business in the back of the box it does not always make it into the scoop. You have to jiggle jiggle the box to move it forward before you roll the box. This could be solved with a little modification by the OEM of the poop catcher, square off the bottom and just leave an angle inside the catcher for emptying into a trash can convenience. Third, if the cat litter clumped poop is not large enough it will slip through the grate or get caught it in. Just the nature of the beast if you will, and this is just a fair warning that nothing is perfect. Chaning the litter is still a requirement and every once in a while, you might have to take the lid off and use a regular pooper scooper to clean up the little bits.
