Received the Best of the Reviews I Read
By Snowbird on Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2019
Wow did I have a hard time choosing a dehu with the wide range of reviews: 1. Packaging - 5 Stars - I was concerned about the negative reviews from customers who received damaged units. Mine was shipping in a box within a box, so it was received in perfect condition. 2. Quietness - 5 Stars - The reviews I read about the noise level being compared to a box fan are correct except that the pitch is a little higher (the pitch is closer to an in-window air conditioning unit). The noise levels are similar to my box fan at low, medium, and high respectively; however the noise is heard a bit further due to the noise pitch of this unit being higher, but normal conversation would be fine at all fan speeds. 3. Hygrometer - 5 stars - I was concerned about the reviews I read about the hygrometer being 25% off. However, I wasn't too concerned about this feature since it is measuring the air around the unit which has had the moisture removed. I don't know if there were unit modifications, but my unit reads 45% humidity and my hygrometer 10 feet away reads 46%. 4. East of Use - 5 stars - This literally is lift out of the box, plug it in, turn on the power. It turns on automatically in the continuous use mode which the guide recommends using for the first 24 hours. The water collector is very easy to remove and empty. The downsides of this unit is that when you take out the water bucket, water still drips as it has already condensed. I also tried turning off the unit for 3 min before removing the water, but it still dripped. The drips are inside the water container storage area and did not leak on my floor, but it something of which to be aware. I have not let it fill completely on it's own yet to hear the alarm sound. With the unit being on the floor, and the water collection at the bottom, it's not like you're gonna be able to see the water fill amount indicator unless you squat down to look. 5. Dehumidification - 5 stars - I live in a dry climate, but a home with moisture issues. The indoor temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit . The unit's starting hygrometer reading was 60% and it pulled a lot of water and reached 45% where it has stayed and continues to pull a good amount of water. I have emptied the water into my plant watering container and used it to water my plants. My laminate floors no longer feel moist. For those with a 2 story home, I would recommend a 2nd unit for the upstairs. I feel this unit covers my kitchen/dining room/living room but do not feel that it makes a difference for the upstairs. 6. Aesthetics - 4 stars - The unit is compact and a crisp white color. Living in a home with dark wood and colored walls, I would have preferred a darker color. The unit is recommended to have 18 inches of clearance from walls, so it's not something you can tuck out of the way. My black lab's hair also clings to the side of the unit as if there is a static electricity charge to it, but brushes away easily. 7. Quality for Price - 5 stars - This was very reasonable priced compared to the other units of similar size and capacity. I feel that I have received a quality product for the money I paid. **i do NOT use the continuous drainage, nor did i test it.

Nice features, nice contruction but a piece of junk.
By Robert J. Perlstein on Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2024
I am writing about TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifer #3. The longest lived machine I've had to date was 1-1/2 years. The present unit prompting this review lasted from July 6th 2023-- to May 20th 2024. I purchased insurance policies on the last two units (#2 & #3). I like the dehumidifier's features-- remembers settings after power outage-- so can continue on the job unattended after the power's restored. Has an internal automatic drain pump (although the drain hose attachment mechanism is horrible), plenty of dehumidifying capability for small home, and relatively quiet. The unit is nicely constructed-- removing the covers, internals are all well laid out and at first glance it looks like a quality build and design. But so much for appearances. I purchased TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifer #1 to replace a 50 year-old SEARS brand which was still going strong ( and now back on the job). I need a dehumidifer that can run unattended--an internal water pump to automatically empty the machine and automatic power out restore is essential. The old SEARS unit offers a choice of a catch pan or a drain hose connection. Manual emptying became a problem very quickly-- thus prompting the purchase of the TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifier. All three machines failed in the same way-- the dehumidifying capacity diminished to nearly zero. No error codes, no faults just no dehumidifying action from the machine. An initial analysis seems to indicate that the capillary metering tube in the refrigeration system clogs reducing the refrigerant flow through the system. The refrigeration system remains stable- it's just that there is very little refrigerant flow so the start of the evaporator ices up and the condenser warms dissipating the absorbed heat. I haven't dissected the dehumidifier yet to see if there's an inherent design flaw. It could be that the compressor has a tendency to self-destruct thus flooding the refrigeration system with debris that ends up clogging a filter or the tiny diameter capillary tube. Who knows... Since I have to rely on a dehumidifier to control room humidity replacing the humidifier as if it were a short-term consumable is unacceptable no matter what the warranty or insurance policies provide for. Maybe you will be luckier with the TOSOT reliability-- but now with a potential 4th machine I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong (besides putting the TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifier to work)...
